what started as a high pitch squeak at low speeds and very sporadic. was told by a certified mech. to try replacing tranny filters. "might have a pressure problem, not letting something engage" so i did there was no indication in the pan or filters that something was wrong no smell or filings in oil, NOTHING! Long story short towed vehicle into the shop the said the torque converter exploded, in turn took the pump and tranny out. $3000 later I'm 2nd guessing myself for buying a dodge. I did a lot of research on the truck prior to purchasing it. thought dodge had the tranny thing figured out. THEY DON'T 4 more years on the loan and i will be gong back to a chevy or ford again. bought the truck with 20000 miles on it and babied it for 40000 miles and something like this happens. This was the second time this problem happened the first time it was under warranty. The is a technical service bulletin for this issue. In this case my wife had my truck because our other car died. She came home from work and the next morning went to go Christmas shopping. She came back in and said the truck wont go forward or backward. It would go into gear, linkage was working but no going. I then had to have the truck towed to the dealer. It took them a week to figure out what was going on and here is what they said: the side of the transmission filter blew out, which then caused the sump filter to fall out of the torque converter, which resulted in the transmission fluid to drain from the torque converter which resulted in the torque converter fusing together to the tune of 1700 dollars. I then informed them that nearly the same repair less the torque converter occurred last year. They said too bad so sad. I still had the inch thick repair order from last year and found they only replaced the transmission filter instead of taking the whole course of action recommended by the TSB. I again complained to them and they said they couldn't help but recommended I contact Chrysler Customer Service Assistance or whatever its called. I then did and was initially met with great service and was then met with too bad so sad which resulted in me calling their service center so many times that it bordered on harassment by communication. When they finally talked to me I told them about the TSB (like they didn't know), the number of calls I made, how I had last years detailed records, and how I had everything documented and that I wasn't going to go away until I got some satisfaction. Long story short I paid 325 dollars for a 1700 dollar repair. Don't give up, document everything, and be nice.

The engine on mine went to 3000 rpm at a complete stop at a red light. It caused the vehicle to surge forward, and then caused the transmission and rear-end into total failure. I had to place the emergency parking break on to prevent it from rolling into vehicle behind me because of total break failure. I assumed we'd been rear-ended because it launched me all the way forward, however it was not the case. The truck had been doing the revving/surging thing intermittently around the first of this year. I also had it serviced regularly. My Ram is actually a 2006, so obviously they didn't fix the horrible problem.
