The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving 45 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the vehicle decelerated on its own. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear axle fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
