This truck has been the most expensive P.O.S. I have ever owned. Been hearing this grinding, popping noise in the rear axle when I turn any corners (left or right). Took it to a local mechanic to see what was up with it. I was hoping it was a wheel bearing or something like that, but alas! The rear axle is trashed. Upon opening it up he found chunks of metal in the bottom of the pumpkin. The locker is all torn up and pretty certain that had I kept in driving it the rear end probably would have eventually locked up. And I had just been hauling my travel trailer 1 week prior. Had the potential to be a real bad situation. Anyway, it is no longer under any sort of warranty. Had considered buying a new rear axle assembly and replacing the whole thing myself, but according to Dodge and everyplace else I have tried, the axle is no longer manufactured. 11 years old and I cant get a new axle for it. My only solution now is to buy a salvaged axle, buy a remanufactured axle at $2400 and I still have to do the work, or replace the individual pieces and parts in the axle. A very labor intensive undertaking and quite expensive depending just what they find. I know the locker is all chewed up in there and there is play in the drive shaft, so who knows what else is trashed.Just one more very expensive reason not buy Dodge ever again. The only thing you can depend on from Dodge is for them to let you down when you need them. This is supposed to be my work truck, but all I seem to do is work on the truck. Can't drive it in its condition. It's a safety hazard. I can't ever get ahead with all the major repairs I keep having to do on this thing. If you are thinking of buying a new or slightly used Dodge, I'd think again. Buy a Toyota if you can. American vehicles are cheap trash.
