After I recovered my truck from an early morning stall on the freeway I brought it to work. When I was leaving work I required a "jump" in order to get the truck started. I was on the road (night time) for about ten minutes before by head lights began to flicker on and off. I was lucky to make it home. I can't believe that this problem (TIPM) could exist that the manufacture has not recalled it or as least offer to pay for damage incurred due to the faulty equipment. Any one else experience this??

I will only post this once as it is an ongoing problem that I could never get them to fix. Again in our normal winter temps (<-20°c) if I were to use the built in remote start it would be a hit or miss to get the truck to start by the key once I enter the vehicle. It has a set time to run during the remote start and it sometimes would stop at random time lengths and I could not get the truck to start until the set time would pass. I finally just gave up using the remote start as my summers are not hot enough to use the A/C. I have had this truck for 5 years now and it has happened to me every winter so far. If I were lucky I would be able to leave my place and get to the store or whatever and shut down the truck, but when I returned to the vehicle to leave it would not start even if this time I did not use the remote start. It would turn over fine, but as if there were no spark on any cylinder. All I had to do was wait it out for about 15 mins and it would start up as if nothing was wrong.

I call her Christine now.

I was out doing errands so the vehicle was warmed up and running great. I stopped to pick up my mail and shut down the truck to take in my key for the PO box. I came out and proceeded to go home and all it would do is turn over like there was no spark at all on any cylinder, (actually what was happening). I live in a remote area of Quebec, Canada and there isn't a dealer near me. I had to call road side assistance and have it towed to the ferry and have it towed from the ferry landing on the other end 300km to the nearest dealer to find out what was wrong. They called and told me it was the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) which is what I think is the fuse box under the hood as it looked new when I got the truck back.

Ram 1500 ST 6.7L Cummins Diesel

I turned on the ignition switch and the lights, windshield wipers, radio, etc. started going on and off randomly. The truck did not start so I paid $135 to have my truck towed to Cumberland Chrysler Center, Inc. They told me the TIPM module was bad (which cost me over $800) and that they had to replace it to find out what was wrong with my truck. I asked the service manager if there is any way to test the old TIPM without the truck and he said no.

I agreed to let them order the part. After several days the the new TIPM came in and after switching it out the truck still did not run. They then tested the batteries and determined that one of them was bad. I had them replace both batteries and the truck ran fine. I told them to put the old TIPM back in the truck which they reluctantly did and the truck still ran fine. I could not send back the new TIPM because they don't take returns on electrical parts...So now I have a spare new one.

Bottom Line: It cost me $1,269 to replace a bad battery. Cumberland Chrysler did not charge me labor and this problem is not their fault. IT IS A DEFECT OF CHRYSLER CORPORATION ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT for not having a diagnostic tool to test TIPMs outside of the vehicle. I wonder how many people have bought a TIPM that didn't need it? By the way I had to pay a $75 core charge to keep that new TIPM I don't need!

I filed a case with Chrysler and they did an "investigation". They told me that the old TIPM is bad and that I should put the new one back in or it could do damage to my truck. I say B.S.!!! I have been driving the truck for 17 days with no problems. There are no errors, warning lights or anything else. I got ripped off and I suspect many others are too.

I was 40 miles from home and shut the truck off for about 15 minutes. When I tried to start it again it would crank over but would not start. I called the dealer and was told to disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds and reconnect it. Being a new vehicle I did not have a tool kit. I had to borrow a 10mm wrench to do the job. The truck started right up after this procedure. I now carry a 10mm wrench at all times.
