On occasion, when breaking at slow speeds (like pulling into a parking space) while depressing the brake peddle, the car will accelerate and lurch forward. My foot was nowhere near the accelerator peddle. This happens about once every few weeks.

I own a 2011 Ford Edge. On June 2, 2016, my husband and I were driving on a highway, when we noticed a sudden problem with the car braking performance; unexpectedly, we started hearing a hissing noise coming from the pedal and the car would not stop; the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. Fortunately, the road was not congested at the time, and we were able to slow down without causing an accident. Regardless, this could have caused a serious accident; it's a miracle that no one was injured. This is not the first time we have experienced break problems with our Ford Edge. Last year, during October, we noticed the same problem, particularly an excessive effort needed to stop, additional to the hissing noise. Back then, we took the car to an independent private mechanic to get it fixed, where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced, so we spent a significant amount of money for the replacement. I'm certain this is a design or manufacturing flaw. A recall is defined as any widespread vehicular problem that results in a risk for those in the car. Doing online research, I realized that many Ford Edge owners have experienced the same risky situation. Through the Ford website ' specifically the field service actions page ' I was able to identify that our vehicle was eligible for an 'extended warranty coverage on brake booster'. quite honestly, I was horrified! how come Ford never notified me" why disguise this safety issue as an extended warranty when it should have been a recall" this is simply neglectful. I sent Ford's customer service a complaint email, and a representative called me to vaguely explain the extended warranty terms and to apologize for my inconvenience, but refused to respond in writing.

I was driving down a freeway ramp towards a stop light and pressed the brakes. The car didn't slow down. I had to step on the brakes completely applying pressure and the car did not come to a complete stop. There was a hissing noise that I heard from below the inside of my car near brakes. My car provide any warning of malfunction.

I had lost my brakes in Sept, 2015. Had new rotors and pads put on, then noticed that they were going to floor with hissing noise, had 2 brand new master cylinders put on, still no change in brakes, then had them replace brake booster the beginning of Dec, 2015. No change in brakes, they still go to floor, I have put a lot of money into dead end repairs. Ford garage wants another $100 diagnostic fee"? for what? I have gotten no answers, no help. I called Ford who stated that they will communicate with the tech. The techs are saying they have never seen this before, and that the booster should of fixed problem. I have not had my vehicle more than I have. Borrowing cars, etc. Any help?? suggestions"

Approaching red light at major intersection. Applying brakes and they are as hard as concrete. Unable to stop! had to apply emergency break and put car in park. No prior warning. It appears to be a break buster/power buster issue. I know two other people with the same 2011 Ford Edge this recently happened too and there is no recall. I almost died. I have a 5 year old son driving in this car. Why is there no recall issued on this?? I am 43 years old and have never experience something like this. I have old cars with 200K miles on them, never had this issue. Are we waiting for enough people to die..

The brake pedal becomes spongy, and the vehicle takes a very long time to stop. Almost rear ended someone and rolled through stop light. Can push brake pedal to the floor and hear high pitched whistle while the pedal slowly recovers. Numerous complaints at carcomplaints. Com about brake booster. Vehicle was serviced at Ford dealer 7/18/2015 and I was advised there are no recalls. Ford needs to advise owners there is a problem, to at least bring the vehicles in to be checked, if not replace the parts.

While attempting to stop the vehicle a hissing noise begun to come form the brakes as I pushed on the pedal. The car stopped, but the pedal felt spongy and I have to push on it harder than normal to get the car to stop. Have not had an issue where I could not stop, but I am afraid I might lose my brakes eventually.

Edge

  • 52,000 miles
The brake pedal became as hard as a rock to press to get the car to stop while driving about 20-30 mph in highway stop and go traffic. Finally when the car stopped it continued to happen until I reached my destination. My air conditioning was running at the time of the incident, when I got back in the car I turned off the air and the issue didn't happen again for another 3 days, again the air was on. Thinking it was due to the air conditioning I really didn't think too much of it and would take it in when I had the time, until it happened without the air on. Now it happens consistently. I have also started to hear a hissing noise every time I step on the breaks. I called Ford they said it could be the brake booster which is covered under extended warranty but they won't know until they run the diagnostic.

When pressing on the brakes the pedal felt hard as if the power system had failed and I was trying to brake with the engine off. I had to press extremely hard to get the car to stop before hitting the vehicle in front of me. I searched online and have found this is happening to a lot of Edge owners. I believe this is a safety issue and that the brake boosters should be recalled.

My wife was driving 35 miles per hour and tried to brake and found it non responsive so I depressed the brake several times for it to stop. Slowly drove to the Ford dealership and they informed me there was a recall on the 2011 Edge brake booster. They gave me a rental and said they would fix my car as it was non drivable. I just had this car serviced at the Ford dealership with no mention of the possible life threatening fault in the brakes. I almost wrecked. This is a serious problem hidden from us the owners of these cars. I told them there was an air noise when depressing the brake and the dealership new exactly what was wrong.

My wife was going home and traveling approximately 45 mph. The collision avoidence lights started flashing and the brakes locked up. There were no vehicles in front of me, but she was almost rear ended from the traffic behind. The vehicle never came to a complete stop. We have had the system go off before but not to this extent. The dealer has had no complaints and cannot do anything unless the vehicle acts up.

I was driving on the highway with my 3 kids and my wife and as I got off the exit I noticed the car wasn't braking, so as I got to the first stop left I decided to turn left and see if I could fix the problem. As I was turning the shearing wheel locked up, brakes didn't brake then the car started to shake. I almost hit on coming traffic at 40 mil per hour. As soon as the car bypassed on coming traffic a had to restart my car and it was fine. As soon as I got home, it happened again. I was about 2ft from hitting my garage door.
