Edge

  • 72,000 miles
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving 35 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The engine stalled and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body control failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

While driving down the highway, my 2011 Ford Edge lost all acceleration and the AWD warning light came on with the lighted symbol of a wrench. I was almost rear ended by several cars before I could make it side of road. I had to shut vehicle completely down and restart. This problem continued for several more times. Ford needs to address this problem before several people get killed.

While driving, the vehicles engine will shut off without any kind of warning. The "AWD light" will come on and the "wrench light" will start flashing the vehicle will start to shake and vibrate. This has happened 3 times now in the past 3 months. Once in early April 2016 and again on 6/24/16, and the next day (today) on 6/25/16. All times the road was dry and temps were between 70-80 degrees. Each time the vehicle was traveling at approx. 55 mph in traffic on roads without a shoulder. Once safely pulled over the start button (keyless start) is turned off and after the vehicle sits for minute it is able to started again without the lights coming on. I have researched this issue on-line and there are many, many complaints about this happening on highways where accidents have been narrowly avoided. Traveling in heavy traffic at high speeds when this happens could be a disaster waiting to happen. Please force Ford to issue a recall before someone dies due to this issue.

Saturday June 4, I was driving along city street at 50kph, when the vehicle lost power, the wrench and "AWD off" illuminated. It was still running, limping along at 5kph max. Put on flashers and pulled to side of the road, put transmission into neutral and tried rev'ing the engine, no response, but engine was still running. Googled the problem, which suggested turning the vehicle off and on. Looks like everything reset and vehicle operated normally. Several hours later, I was on major (4 lane) city street, travelling at 80kph, when same problem occurred. Put on flashers and coasted to side of the road, turned vehicle of/on, and continued to home. Dealer could not duplicate and diagnose the problem. I suggesting they dig further and maybe check the internet.....throttle body might be the problem. The vehicle has 80,000 km and is out of extended warranty by 6 months. After 3 days in the shop, the dealer technician suggested maybe the throttle body. I'm currently waiting on dealer to receive part. I called Ford customer care and they are providing a rental, and are expediting the part as well as offering a reduced cost. This is a serious safety issue and needs to be documented.

Driving down the interstate at 60mph the car displays a wrench-shaped light in the instrument cluster and goes into "limp home mode, " very dangerous as your driving in rush hour traffic. I had cars flying past me in both the fast lane and slow lanes that would not let me over to get to the far right. This was probably one of the scariest things I had ever experienced! going from 60 to less than 5 mph in a blip second with no warning. I was able to get to the side of the road, and shut the vehicle off and restart it and everything seemed okay. Went home to do research and everything pointed to the throttle body there are hundreds of posts from Ford Edge owners with this exact same issue Ford was forced to recall other models but for some reason the Edge was not included, we cleaned the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, however it really did not look very bad. After cleaning the throttle body, I drove the vehicle for a test and did not get more than 5 miles and the same issue occurred this time I was ready and only going 40, however I was on the back road with no where to pull over. I had to shut the car off in middle of the road and restart it, however that time I put the code scanner in before restarting the vehicle. One code was picked up 'P2111" - throttle body failure. I can not believe Ford has not recalled the Edge's for this issue, there are several hundred complaints on this site all for the same issue. I currently am unable to drive the car because it won't go more than 5 miles at a time when the wrench shows up as well as a safety issue with the inability to accelerate. Called Ford on 6/7/2016 to order a new throttle body. Ford indicated that there is a backorder on this part they currently have 7000 people on the waiting list. First expected to ship 6/30/2016.

Car has stalled two times, one time was while driving and turning into oncoming traffic. The car was going full speed 55mph, had no issues leading up to it, I slowed down to run and it completely shut down - no power steering, no acceleration it was dead, the engine was off but the car was still on. Obviously this was a horrible time for it to die. I was able to, barely, make the turn without power steering and pull over. I shut the car off, turned it back on and it was fine. The other time it happened was my 16 year old daughter had just started the car, put it in reverse, again the car on but nothing was happening. The issue I have here is judging by the online posts this is happening to a lot of Ford SUV's but because this isn't a recall the service people have to see it actually happening, so it never can get fixed, because it is very intermittent. I am very disappointed in Ford and not issuing a recall, putting lives in danger - I will be selling all of our Ford ( we have 3).

While driving, the AWD turned off & the engine stalled. A wrench light and engine light came on. I took it to a dealer and they advised it was the throttle body. The first occurence, I was advised to ignore it. The second occurence I asked it to be fixed & was told the part was back ordered approximately 6 weeks. There have been multiple instances since then where the car has died while driving, or sometimes while stopped at a light.

Driving to work about ten miles of highway, my car started running rough and shaking. I was able to coast into a parking lot then my heater stopped working a warning light came on "engine coolant temp" then it died completely in a matter of seconds, I saw some smoke under the hood so I called for help. There was no other warning whatsoever! the mechanic told us that the water pump had gone out and caused the engine to over heat. It shot coolant into the engine and it was totaled. Again there was absolutely no warning at all. No sensors no anything. I maintain my vehicle with regular oil changes etc. And if there had been any warning light I would have taken it to my mechanic immediately.

While driving at approx. 45 mph, the AWD off light appeared, than a wrench appeared. I could no longer accelerate and coasted over to the side of the road. I turned my car off. I restarted my car and continued driving. I am glad I wasn't on a business road and was able to get to the side of the road safely. I hope somebody doesn't have to die before they acknowledge this issue.

The engine died, as I was driving the car down the interstate. The steering wheel locked as I tried to exit and my car drifted into oncoming traffic. Fortunately there was no accident but when I was finally able to get the car to the side of the road it was severely smoking and I had to get myself and my daughter out of the car immediately. Also, the head gaskets and radiator blew and now there is a major electrical problem with the car the service department could not diagnose after 5 hours of investigating.

(on multiple occasions )my 2011 Ford Edge upon accleration the vehicle loses the abiltiy to acclerate - shudders and the check engine flashes or stays on. Supposedly could not find the "code" that caused it. I have had the vehicle into 2 different dealer ships - one replaced the transfer case, the other the catalytic converter and ignition coils- to the cost of over $600 on a used certified vehicle. Less than a few days later same issue - back to dealer said it was a loose wire. I now drive the vehicle very tentatively and hope I don't have to accelerate quickly.the vehicle persists in the ability to not acclerate quickly ( usually at 55 mph or higher )without the engine light flashing or staying on. It also seems to happen most frequently on quick accleration --on ramp or getting up to freeway speed. It is very dangerous as this usually happens getting on or off the freeway or staying up with traffic, once the light goes on the vehicle shudders and will not accelerate today it will be 3 months first visit was Oct 29 mileage was 68000 and has happened up to today multiple times and mileage is now 74000 the check engine light is on again back to Ford dealer again tomorrow.

While driving the powertrain error code (wrench icon) pops up and my cars loses all acceleration. I'm forced to try to get to the shoulder of the road while coasting and then once stopped if I take my key out and reinsert and start the car everything is fine. Ford dealer cannot find any errors with the vehicle and this has happened multiple times. This is a major safety concern to unexpectedly lose all engine power while at high speed on freeways or even side roads without a shoulder. There are lots of people with the same issue posting the same problems.

Engine stalls, changes to limp home mode. This can happen during acceleration or at speed. The error wrench lights. This has resulted in an unsafe deceleration in traffic. Dealer finds no code in the system. Engine will run fine after shutdown and restart. The incidents occur on surface streets, intersections, and at highway speed. The Ford case number is case number cas7831451V2Q4H3. No satisfaction from Ford at this time.

I left my house in the morning on 11/6 and after a short drive the "AWD off" and a "little wrench" light came on and the car lost power and just stopped in the middle of the street since I was trying to go up a hill. Thankfully no one was behind me!! it started to run very rough so I turned it off quickly, waited a few seconds and restarted it. The car then ran ok and got me to work and home again but when my husband took it to run an errand that night, same thing happened to him and then again this morning when I was bringing the car down for service. This was three times in one day! with no warning the car just loses power and stops. Very dangerous!! I'm afraid to drive my car now and I don't want to be on the highway and have this happen - someone is going to get hurt. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem or find a code coming up to reveal the issue.

While driving the car will suddenly lose power ( not accelerate ). the wrench light will come on. You must try to safely coast to side of road and turn ignition off and restart. This happens intermittently and is very dangerous in heavy traffic and at higher speeds. This has occurred on interstate highway and city driving. Dangerous also when there is not enough room to pull off road safely. We have taken car to Ford dealership but they cannot find problem. We have noted on the internet that a lot of other Ford Edge drivers are also having this issue. I would think that Ford Motor Company would be aware of this problem. I would hope that this issue will be addressed before someone is seriously injured or killed. This has happened 6 times from 11/30/2015. It also happened over a year ago 4-5 times and Ford could not find problem. Thank you

While driving on interstate the vehicle all of a sudden stalled. The engine was still on and running but while depressing the accelerator there was no response. Was forced to carefully pull off to the side of the road. Turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle started with no problem. This was a scary situation no one should have to go through. The vehicle was checked out by 2 mechanics and they could not diagnose a problem. Checked with Ford and was no told there were no recalls, after I explained my situation. After researching the internet I realized others were having similar problems. Throttle body housing issues were described repeatedly. At my expense had the throttle body housing assembly removed and replaced. This is a very serious situation that needs addressing by Ford Motor Company. As a retired houston firefighter I saw my share of horrible injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents. The car in question belongs to my daughter and it is her first. If anything were to happen to her my family would be crushed. I am seeking some answers to why Ford has not done something about this major problem. This is a major problem that not only needs addressing but needs to be resolved before someone is affected in a tragic way.
