The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his daughter was at a complete stop, the brake pedal was depressed but felt spongy and failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact-€™s daughter continued to depress the brake pedal until the brakes responded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the whistling sound inside the cab was caused by the vacuum booster and the master cylinder failure. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who advised that the vacuum booster would be replaced under an unknown recall; however, the master cylinder replacement would be an out-of-pocket expense. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

I had spongy brakes took to the shop because I was finally losing brake fluid. Shop changed my Brake Master Cylinder. $400 on the way home my car felt like it was dragging. Get home smelled a strange smell. got in it the next morning going to work and it felt like my brakes where being pressed. Almost got to work and my car just stopped finally got it into a parking lot and my brakes locked completely up and my car would not move. Smoke started coming out of my wheel wells. Towed it to the repair shop and was told my ABS Control Module was bad. Part is on back order been waiting for it for the last week. Shop told me my car was not safe to drive.

Power brakes will randomly fail, without any warning. Safety of driver and passengers, as well as other motorists are in danger with this problem. Master cylinder and brake booster are operating correctly. Abs pump motor is the problem. A valve is sticking inside it, causing brake fluid to bypass the brake calipers line and just go open loop in the abs circuit. Google and YouTube is full of the exact same problem. Factory part(s) did not even last 10years or 150,000 miles. Completely unacceptable for the most important system on a vehicle. No lights are on, basic scan tool finds no codes. Advanced scan tool finds a abs soft code:coo20:13-28. Ford wants over $3000 to fix with the exact same part that will fail again without notice. I am a small mechanic, and cannot do this repair because you have to have ford's special software.
