At our lakehouse for the weekend, the interior lights would NOT go out. Researched the internet and found this is a VERY common problem. I pulled the fuse associated with that per the owners manual and after about 30 minutes the light went out. Don't know if it was the fuse or if it was magic but it went out I haven't replaced the fuse. The light comes on/off properly now so was it magic?

Update from Dec 14, 2016: My door ajar warning has not gone off since I wrote my original complaint. It is ALWAYS on and every time I pull away from the garage, stop light or something the warning bells go off. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I took my car in to the Ford house and asked for them to fix it. They told me it was not a part of any recall (WHY??) and that they could "try" to fix it for $400.00 (!!!) but couldn't guarantee it would remain fixed. Needless to say, I declined to spend the $400.00 for a possible (or maybe not) fix.

There's obviously a history of this being a problem. Door ajar chime and lights come on regardless if door is closed or not. Ford dealer acts like its a new issue. Took my edge in yesterday at 9am after scheduling the appointment a week earlier. Got the diagnosis at 4pm yesterday, had to arrange for ride home. sitting here now at 10am following day and still waiting. I like my Edge but dealer service is not only a pain in the ass but a license for robbery. 575.00 for door latch and 175.00 for windshield wiper switch that causes wipers to come on intermittently. Kendall Ford Eugene, you suck! And Ford, if you have thousands of complaints about same issue fix the fricking problem instead of acting like doesn't exist.

My 2013 Ford Edge has a very bad issue with having door ajar sensor coming on, when door is shut. This causes the interior light to come on and is very dangerous at night. I have seen many videos to fix it, but it does not. I have read many people go to Ford and pay $400 to supposedly fix it, and it still comes on. NO FIX...Ford fix our vehicles...This is very dangerous problem...With this many complaints, you should have a recall.

I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO JOHN KENNEDY FORD OF CONSHOHOCKEN AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATE TRIED TO AVOID MY QUESTIONS AND WALKED AWAY FROM ME WHEN I TRIED TO BRING IT UP. HE SAID THAT CLEANING THE DOOR LATCH WOULD COST $250 AND REPLACING THE WHOLE MECHANISM WOULD COST $450 AND SEEMED TO BE VERY EVASIVE.

Edge SEL 2.0 T

  • Automatic transmission

Shortly after getting this car used the door ajar sensor would come on. At first opening and closing the door would fix it, then it got to the point it would stay on at all times regardless of how many times I open and shut the door. Literally, I tried over 20 times one day and tried alternating from closing it softly to hard.

Took it to the dealership, where they said the contacts for the door were dirty and they cleaned them. Since my car is under 36,000 miles, it was covered under warranty. Here we are a couple months later and it's now doing it again. Not only is it annoying, but it's dangerous that my doors won't lock. Taking it back to the dealership next week to see what they say. I also filed a complaint regarding an AC/heat problem I'm having.

After having several Fords in the past that had issues, I said I would never own another one. After not having one for about 7 years, I heard they were great cars now so I thought I would give it another shot since the Edge was exactly what I was looking for... Very disappointed.

I am having issue with the door ajar light. I was late for work dealing with this. I went and put something in my vehicle and close the door and locked it. I was out in the area and noticed the interior lights and my lights on my mirrors were still on. So I walk over to it and got in and seen the red door ajar light was on after closing my front door. So I went to all the doors thinking that one was not closed good. Went back and locked the vehicle and it done the same thing. I messed with this about 45 min. I finally got it to go off after the 45 minutes. And I was mad!!! They need to recall this because it is annoying and shouldn't be wasting time dealing with it. Please put in a recall so I can enjoy my vehicle. I have had it for 11 months and this is the first time it has done this. This is the first Ford I have owned and if this keeps happening and no recall is issued on this it might be my last. I love the vehicle and roomy and smooth riding. I just want this to be fixed. I am not sure whether the warranty will fix it. They always say bumper to bumper and I have the warranty to 100,000 miles. But for most time it want cover it. I will check with the dealership and see.

Edge Limited AWD 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission

I have a 2013 Ford Edge Limited AWD. The "driver door ajar" alarm will not shut off. The alarm is distracting but the real issue is a safety concern because the interior lights are also on all the time. At night I cannot see very well because of the glare from the interior lights. I have asked Ford of Canada to authorize repair, but to date have had no reply. I have hated this car since day one; it is one expensive piece of sh*t. My experience with this new car has cured me from ever dealing with any car dealer; new or used. I will take my chances and buy privately from now and into the future. Once dealers get your money you are history....

Update from Jul 13, 2015: Canadian Edge owners can complain to Transport Canada 1-800-333-0510 or/and mvs-sa@tc.gc.ca. The more complaints the merrier. Thanks

Update from Aug 27, 2015: Finally heard from Ford of Canada and they are not going to do anything about the problem. I had to pay to have the fault repaired due to safety concerns of the interior lights being illuminated at night which reduced visibility and the doors would not lock when travelling. Ford's refusal to repair the problem does not really surprise me as they have a history of not stepping up to the plate to accept responsibility for part failures. I hope to sell this POS shortly and buy an older used car that I can repair myself. Lesson learned!!!

Edge LX V6

My door ajar light is coming on when driving or coming to a stop. I took it to them while it was under warranty and they "fixed" it. However, it is now no longer under warranty and the lights won't go off at all now. It is dangerous when I am driving down the highway and the lights randomly stay on when its dark outside. The glare on the windshield is extremely dangerous.

As always, the Ford dealer said they had a new tool to fix the problem. $75 and 3 months later, we have the same bullshit happening. This is the second Edge for us & the LAST one. It isn't fixed if it keeps happening. Tired of their inability to fix or admit this issue. Dealer also said that the issue wasn't under warranty at 40,000 miles.

I figure Ford would take care of this issue, instead they seem to be ignoring problems like other manufactures. Ford and others have known about this issue for years. And still no response from Ford. What a shame.

Edge SEL

Started happening in January, maybe once a week, now it's every time we get into the car. I have to try closing the door several times. The worst was the first time, I about wrecked thinking one of my kids had opened the door while we were cruising down the road. It came on as we were driving. After that the frequency has increased to the point that we are getting used to the substandard functionality.

Took it to the Ford dealer, they all are fully aware of this to my surprise. I see it as a safety issue, but than...I'm normal. They sprayed electrical cleaner in it and......that didn't do it. They offered to replace for another future failing switch for near $300. So, obviously I can't afford to do this every year. Come on, the bane of this model is the PTO and the door ajar sensor, neither of which have been resolved and I've been nailed with both now.

Edge Limited 3.2L V6

First it was the Door Ajar light; sometimes you can slam the door and it goes off, but lately that is not working. OK, so I hit the middle button and it just becomes a little annoying icon on the screen. Then I start getting the Shift to Park light while I am driving down the road. Now I get the Engine On light while idling at a traffic light. There is no rhyme or reason to when this will happen; does not seem to be affected by air temperature or engine temperature. The dealer tells me to bring it in, and they can tell me within an hour or so if it is an "easy fix", or will require more extensive repairs. At least this should still be under warranty (32,500 miles).

THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT IS THE BIG PROBLEM SINCE WE FIRST BOUGHT THIS FORD EDGE 2013 LIMITED. THIS HAS BEEN FIXED NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE FORD DEALER HAS SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS...AMAZING!!

BECAUSE ON THIS THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK...IT KEEPS THINKING THE DOOR IS AJAR AND IT IS NOT. I WOULD THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.

SO WHEN IS FORD GOING TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS PROBLEM....I AM TIRED OF GOING TO OUR FORD DEALER TO FIX THIS.....AND NOW IT WELL COST US SO THEY TELL US. ITS NOT COVERED AFTER YOUR WARRANTY RUNS OUT. ANYTHING TO DO WITH ELECTRICAL WILL BE EXPENSIVE TO FIX.

WE LOVE OUR FORD EDGE, BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!!!!!!

Update from Nov 30, 2016: Car now has 58,000 miles....I reported this when we first got the Edge that was in 2013. Dealer fixed issued twice...said next time you pay for it. So here we are in 2016 and Ford doesn't feel its necessary for a recall....really!!!!

Driver door ajar indicator comes on half the time. Have to close the door multiple times to get it to turn off. Seems there are many documented issues like this. Seems it should be a recall.

Have a appointment with the dealer tomorrow. Will follow up.

Update from Dec 9, 2016: After having the dealer "clean" the latch 3 or 4 different times, they decided to replace the latch assembly for free.

Everything seems to be fine now. Guess we'll wait for the latch for the other doors to fail.

It's so very annoying every time I go somewhere the driver's side door ajar alert is on and when I slow down I get a message to shift to park. As much as I am paying for this vehicle I think there needs to be a recall on this issue. I'm not the only one with the issue, I have read several reports online about the problem!!! Please recall this and fix it FORD!!
