This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
What a terrible car - it caused a crash because of the engine shutting off.

Not very happy, considering this seems like a common problem.

Wrench light comes on and car stalls while driving. This has happened several times over the last couple of weeks while traveling out of town. Once on Interstate and serveral times on local roads. Have to immediately pull off road and worry as not sure where we are. After sitting for awhile and restarting light goes off and problem seems OK, and we drive to safety. It works OK for several days and then intermittantly happens again. It has put us in very dangerous situations, especially when occurrence is at night in unfamiliar areas. Took to closest repair shop while traveling and they could not detect any code as light was off, therefore could not diagnose. This is very concerning and dangerous situation to have car stall and lose power on road at any time. We are now taking to closest Ford dealer now to see if they can offer a solution. This is obviosuly a common problem that Ford needs to address as a recall, and very dangerous to car occupants! The expense of this downtime while traveling has added up, not to mention the extreme frustration and "unknown when this will happen again".

THIS IS THE THIRD TIME FOR THE ECO-BOOST PROBLEM. WAS TOLD THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN TO SERVICE DEPT THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION BUT NEVER REPLACED TRANS. WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL AND TO DEAL WITH IT. I BOUGHT CAR 6 MONTHS AGO AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO PROTECT THE VEHICLE. AND I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR IN MY CUSTODY FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS WHEN I TRIED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND TRADE IT IN TO THE SAME DEALER. I HAD A LEMON AND NOBODY WOULD TRADE. I HAVE TRIED SINCE THE FIRST 2 WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT IT TO GET THE DEALER TO HELP ME OUT OF IT. ITS IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IF ALL ELSE FAILS I HAVE A GREASE PEN (LIKE THEY WRITE ON CAR WINDOWS AT IMPOUND LOT) TO WRITE IN BOLD LETTERS DEATH TRAP!!!!

Since end of September I have taken my care twice this month for a problem of sudden slowing/shutting down of my care while driving since then 6 times. They claim that they fix it twice and still I have the same problem, every time they keep the vehicle for at least 48 hours
My vehicle is Ford Edge 2013 3.5 L V6. I have extended guarantee.
Last time It occurred on: 23/11/2018 and currently it is in with dealer to reinvestigating and today 25/11/2018 they give me a call that it is OK and no problem is detected but kept the vehicle with them, driving it searching the problem
I Need only to drive my care safely for my family and for others especially on highways.
I look forward to your prompt response on this matter. As recommended by Trading Standards, I would like to keep a complete record of my case, so please reply back via this email account.

Just happened about an hour ago. Was driving fine. Had to stop someplace before work. Ran in and out the store. Started the car fine, backed out of a parking spot, drove 15 feet, the engine shuts down and says "See Manual". I coasted to the side of the street (luckily a not busy road), took the key out of the ignition, sat staring in disbelief of what just happened a few second and it started up just fine. Made it safely to work but, took all back roads for fear it would happen in heavy traffic.
So now what... now I pay to have it looked at which costs hundreds in itself, I know it will be past warranty because nothing so far has been covered (even when an issue with the computer happened at less than 15k miles). I can't drive back roads the next decade!!!!
Ford, really, you need to take another look at these Edge's and figure out a game plan because, you are going to have severe lawsuits when people begin crashing due these system failures!!!!!!

Greetings All 2013 Ford Edge Owners.
I feel like I've been living this nightmare with all those who have been driving down the road and the Edge just stalls, you lose all power to control the vehicle. I like many other brought this vehicle thinking I as a father, I was providing extra protection and a dependable vehicle for my wife and new born. It's not a year and its been one problem after another with the read out on dash, it can stating low on oil, when it was just changed. It could be the wrench symbol showing up, when its been serviced. But by far it's the stalling without warning.
Is it going to take someone's loved one being hurt in a accident or worse? Is it going to take someones baby or children being seriously injured before something is done by Ford or the government? Well we know the government has shown it only reacts when mass protest is involved and then only to quite the noise.
Signed: More than a concern, its sounding the warning!!!

Power cut out completely and the engine stalled while my wife was driving on a busy road. She could have been hurt or worse, and it's only by luck that our baby wasn't also in the car with her. Ford knows about the defect, and has extended the warranty on the electronic throttle body for some models, but not ours. Ford won't issue a wider recall of the part until enough people are hurt or die. Or, more likely, until enough lawsuits roll in.

For the past four months the car intermittently will accelerate from park, drive a quarter mile and then the engine dies, I pull over, restart and it works again. This past week I drove 10 minutes, stopped at a stoplight, went to accelerate and it stopped again. I am getting really nervous about getting on the freeway with two kids under the age of three. They could not duplicate or find the computer record when I took it in today. Sounds like a throttle body issue. Looks like I am not alone!

Three occasions and without any warning, I have been traveling on I20 east bound at 50mph, in five o'clock traffic, and my car shut off. Thankfully, I was able to cross four lanes of traffic to the shoulder. Steering was almost non existing. I turned the ignition off and sat for a few moments, not knowing what to do. I then turned the ignition back on and the engine started back up with no warning signs or further problems.

Reading online, this is a known problem and NHTSA opened an investigation in February, 2013, after thousands of complaints about ETB failures but let Ford off easy. NHTSA decided not to ask for an official recall, but the agency indicated Ford developed a remedy procedure and issued a special customer satisfaction program extending the ETB warranty coverage and instructing franchised dealers to update the powertrain calibration to improve vehicle performance in the event that intermittent electrical connectivity of the throttle body motor contacts occurs. This is totally bull. This only covers the Ford Escape and Fusion and Mercury Mariner and Milan.

On 2 occasions my 2013 Ford Edge has literally lost power while driving. In each case I was traveling about 45-50 miles per hour. In each case I had to put my flashers on and coast to the side of the road. Very, very dangerous ! In each case I turned the ignition off, then restarted the car. I am taking it to the dealer this Friday 12/9/16.

Driving on the Florida Turnpike and car just loses power. engine running but accelerator pedal doesn't work. this has happened about a dozen times already. A wrench is displayed on the instrument panel.I turn the car off and start it and the problem goes away. This is very dangerous and FORD has no recall for this problem.
- dolfanhowie, Fort Lauderdale, FL, US
The engine just decides to shut down while driving. You have to be kidding me and this is not serious! This happened to us luckily on a straight section of country road. Many other places could have been life threatening because you lose all control over driving the vehicle. Ford really needs to address this issue before, if not already someone gets seriously injured!
Update from Oct 30, 2016: do not know what is being done to solve issue yet, still in service department
- Richard D., Bath, NY, US
Traveling 70mph engine decelerated. Moved off highway. Engine idle rough, press accelerator and no response. Orange wrench displayed on info center. Waited a few minutes, normal continued until reached mechanic.

Left work at 5:30PM to head home. Over halfway home, engine light came on. Pulled over waited a minute and restarted. Engine light came on. Took to Auto Zone and diagnosis was oxygen sensor. Called Lithia and scheduled service for Monday, the Sept. 19th 2016. Mechanic said was OK to drive until then. Drove across town several times that evening. When idling, car engine bucked multiple times, and one time it stalled out at a light. Drove to work next morning engine light went off, but bucking at idle continued. On way home that evening engine light came on, and continued to buck at idle. (May be covered under extended warranty, but will find out Monday).
Update from Sep 20, 2016: Wife picked up car from Lithia Motors this evening. From what I can gather, the Oxygen Sensor was OK. Cause was related to Brake Booster losing vacuum. (Brake Booster replacement was covered under Brake Booster Recall #13N02

Is it going to take someone getting killed before you do a recall on the known throttle body problem. My car is 3 1/2 years old with less than 50K miles. This is the first FORD I have owned and I'm not sure I will buy another with all the problems I've had in the past 3 1/2 years. I certainly would not have these issues with a foreign car. This is the first complaint I've made, but thought it was important because someone could loose their life if this happens on the freeway and someone slams into the back of them. I was worried because I had my Mom in the car with me and on a secluded road. Thank goodness for Triple A. My car was towed in on a Saturday and didn't get it back until Wednesday. Not very good customer service. The service department just told me they had a rash of cars that came in - that doesn't look good for FORD. I hated purchasing an extended warranty on my first FORD purchase; however, I'm glad I did. Of course, $200 for every incident isn't helping my faith in FORD!

Car first stalled while idling. Motor quit...restarted without problem. Dealer could not find anything wrong. Has occurred 3 times since. Usually when cruising around....once trying to cross major highway! Car is in shop now....dealership is very nice but having trouble repairing or finding problem. Will not buy another FORD. Car now has 55 thousand plus miles...glad I bought extended warranty!

I bought the car in June 2013 with a four years extended warranty from Coscharis Motors, the Ford dealership in Nigeria. They have declined to fix the car under warranty and are quoting about USD530.00 for the job.

The engine on my Edge was dying while in motion. Usually it would happen when I was coming to a stop or as I was turning. The steering control went out (due to no engine power), and the panel displayed the error message "Low Engine Oil Pressure". I would turn it off, then start it right back up and continue. It happened once or twice a day for 3-4 days in a row before I was able to get it to the repair shop. Days before this started happening, the engine would rev up on its own while idling and would sputter with some black exhaust. It also would not start right after getting gas (didn't matter if I filled it up or only got a few gallons).
The mechanic recommended replacing the battery first, which we did since it was under warranty, but I'm not sure that was necessary. Next, he cleaned the throttle body and replaced a cylinder that was misfiring. He also replaced a plug (I'm assuming a spark plug?). It's been a few days and the car hasn't stopped or acted weird again, so far. I haven't tried to get gas again yet, so I'm not sure if that issue has resolved. I still don't trust the car, but I know one thing... I will never buy another Ford ever again! Have had way too many issues with this one!
