2.0L ecotec engine code 420 made in Cleveland, Ohio. Coolant intrusion into the cylinders can cause engine to overheat or run rough and shut off at highway speeds causing an accident. Ford is well aware of this issue and the fix is to replace the engine at the cost of the consumer. Estimates are upwards of $8,000 for the repair to be done.

I have on my car for about a year now and when I first received it about a month into it I noticed this first issue. I would be driving and all the sudden I would loose acceleration. All dash lights that could come on did. This includes BLIS system failure. Transmission failure. Engine coolant temp failure. Traction control failure. Etc etc. The vehicle enters a limp mode I believe, and in doing so it very harshly shifts down through the transmission gears as I am slowing down. This happened a second time a month after the first incident as I was entering a highway between a bridge where I only had half my car width of space to pull over on both sides. In a blind bend, in a very dangerous place to pull over. I switched to 93 octane in hopes this would fix the issue, and for 6-8 months I haven't had that issue again. Until yesterday. I went to try to pass somebody in a passing zone when my vehicle did exactly as listed above. At this point I firmly believe it has something to do with the ECU, the brains of the car as I think this is the only thing that can tie all the errors together (it-??s literally every warning I can think of). Ive taken it to Ford twice now for this issue, and will be inquiring about this again when I get my inspection on Saturday. They stated there is absolutely no data that points them anywhere when they check the stored codes. Even though there was a check engine light. This even further leads me to believe its an ECU issue, as it maybe errors out and is unable to store any codes. Over all its a serious safety issue that no ford dealer is able to diagnose for me. Googling leads me to the FordEdgeForum where other people are experiencing the same issue but without a full solution as its such an intermediate problem and cannot be easily duplicated.

Head gasket failure. Began around 4/13/2022 at mileage 63,988. Was confirmed by Spirit Ford Dundee, Michigan via scope down a piston chamber to detect fluid. Vehicle coolant dropped down to where heat output was affected. Had white plumes from exhaust. Believe this was premature for this type of failure. Elected to have repair at Tanner Automotive Adrian, Michigan. See attached invoice for $2,270.61. Am not interested in compensation. Discussed this with Ford who declined. Simply wish to make record as Ford is aware of this issue; otherwise they would not have issued tech service bulletin for same.If NHTSA issues recall for same; would then participate in all benefits deemed by NHTSA. Vehicle is titled in my wife's name: Sheila Bork Bowman 10550 Pentecost Hwy, Onsted, Mi.49265

Car's brakes went to floor when engaged. Driver pumped them several times to slow car. Engine light came on; took car to mechanic and brake repair was made, but engine light kept appearing. Then the car would not crank and was towed to the mechanic and the battery was replaced. Finally, the car's body/wheels appeared to be shaking when driving and the engine light appeared again. Car was taken to a Ford repair center where service department informed us that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant leak. The car is driveable but unsafe and requires expensive engine replacement. After doing research, this appears to be a well known problem with the Ford Edge and consumers aren't receiving adequate information about the extent of the problem or safety concerns. A recall needs to be issued for this defect and Ford needs to take responsibility to fix the problem.

Check engine light indicates cylinder misfire. Repair folks assume its spark plug related. Coolant is leaking into the engine causing this and by the time it is figured out the engine needs replaced! It is a known and well documented problem with these vehicles. I believe that FORD should be held liable for the cost of these engine replacements. It appears to happen around 60-65k miles. Unfortunately, owners of these vehicles are unaware of the issue until it happens to them. This is exactly what happened to me and I did research after the fact. I would implore for FORD to issue a recall and pay for these new engines.

After taking my vehicle to the shop, it was discovered that engine coolant is leaking into cylinder 3 causing a misfire. Was told that I will have to replace engine with 94,000 miles at a cost of $8500 of my own money. There is a TSB out there, but it is not covered by Ford. Extremely frustrating.

Engine encountered cold start misfire code $105.95, cylinder 1 misfire and misfire detected on startup, PO 301 and 316. Coolant leaking into cylinder, Ford TSB 19-2208 is to replace the Long Block Engine Assembly. Engine has 93511 miles and is not covered under warranty, will cost an exorbitant amount to replace. Ford should issue a recall due to the severity as this effects many different model engines.

Bought vehicle new at a dealer, never one problem and every service completed at the dealership. No warning, 2 days ago I went to start my car and it idled then shut off. Check engine light popped on, quickly after another screen popped up and said coolant above temperature. Immediate drove a mile to the ford dealership to be advised they could not see me, but maybe get to it next week. But, I should.not drive it off the lot. Long story short, had it towed to my home dealership about 120 miles away, they looked the following day only to advise coolant was leaking into the engine and this is a known issue! Of course, warranty expired 5k miles ago ( 5 months) and they are asking me to replace the entire engine at my cost for about $8500! The car is just over 4 years old, 2017 edge. I also find it hard to believe that I just did the 80k mile service 3 weeks ago and somehow nothing was wrong at that time. Still owe money on a car that I either can't drive or have to pay $$$$.
