Took my car to my mechanic said that coolant was draining into my 2.0 ecoboost engine in cylinder 4 causing misfire, white smoke to come out of my pipes, sweet antifreeze smell in the cabin. Have to constantly dump coolant into the car so that it doesn't over heat.when i start the car in the morning it acts as if the car is going to die if I don't hit the gas. Contacted ford, they said it was my problem. I bought the car a year ago. It started at about 72000 miles.

The check engine light would intermittently light up and then go out for a few months prior to system failure. In the week prior to failure, we took the vehicle to AutoZone and used their engine code scanner to try to diagnose the problem. Based on the result of that, we first changed the spark plugs, which initially made the check engine light turn off for about a week, then it came back on. We then replaced the ignition coils, the check engine light never went out. A couple of days after that, while I was driving home from work one morning, the check engine light started to flash at me, which it had not done before, the car started shaking, and the RPM pin started dancing but would not exceed 2000RPM. We took it to the dealership where they diagnosed a coolant intrusion in cylinder 2 and told us this is a known problem with Turbo Boost engines from 2015-2018 and that there is currently a class action lawsuit underway to push Ford Motor Company to make it an official recall. They recommended replacing the engine or trading the vehicle in for a new car. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, who confirmed the dealership's diagnosis and replaced the engine with a 2019 ReMan turbo boost engine, including brand new turbo hoses and gaskets. The total bill came to $8367.64

2.0 eco boost motor. Intrusion of coolant into the 1st and 2nd cylinder. Superior warranty and Ford company refuse to take any responsibility of this issue. It is a known issue and it has cost me $6624 and it is hard enough to have to buy 2nd hand car but 3 days after this issue arises. As is vehicle. Ford should be liable. 111k miles at time of repair. Started as fuel issues per Starks where bought car to spark plugs and coils to motor and fly wheel.

2017 Ford Edge was rattling with starting it in the morning. We received a backdated letter about a flexplate recall. We took car in to check it out. Service guy said to go home, -??you would know if it was the flexplate-??. Then car was rattling a little more and check engine light came on, so I brought the car and the letter back in and same service guy said he would check it out. Charged me $764 to change out 4 spark plugs and an ignition coil. Said car was fine to drive and that they checked all cylinders etc. But they were going to ask for Ford approval to replace flexplate-??.. They called that it was approved and they kept car for many days and said it was fixed. Last week (two months and only 500 miles later), check engine light came on again. We took it back to Auto Nation. They kept car to evaluate the problem. Called us a few days later saying we would need a new engine for $8,500. Service guy said this happens a lot. Most people had traded in for new cars. One guy with extended warranty got it fixed. We asked if cylinders, plugs, etc were fully checked 2 months ago, why would you say cylinders are corroded now" Did fixing the flexplate cause the problem" We looked online and saw talk of class action lawsuits, cylinder issues, Ecoboost engine issues, and possible car fire issues. This caught our attention as a huge safety concern. We are not sure how to proceed. (I have all paperwork from Autonation and recall letter.)

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request" -The Engine had to be replaced due to coolant and oil leaking through the 4th cylinder into the engine itself, effectively killing it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -The car unexpectedly shook very violently, and would not properly accelerate due to the problem. Smoke clouded the street as I drove to the repair shop - and other drivers were worried for mine and others safety. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -The problem was confirmed by an independent mechanic as well as a Ford dealer, who told me this is a common occurrence with this specific engine, though there is no recall. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -The Ford dealer inspected the engine and came to the same conclusion as the independent mechanic - the engine had suffered an intrusion of oil and coolant through the 4th cylinder which effectively killed the engine. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear" -The check engine light had been on for around a year prior. Also, the acceleration had been getting weaker and weaker.

The engine coolant leaks into the pistons due to cracked cylinder wall Car is goes through coolant very quickly which may cause the engine to overheat or catch fire. There is no noticeable leak from outside the vehicle and is not obvious the coolant gets low/empty very quickly Vehicle has been inspected by Ford Dealership and a third part mechanic, both confirmed the coolant leak and cracked cylinder wall A check engine light came on, but it was for misfires in the engine, not identifying the coolant leak. (Coolant in the cylinder caused car to misfire on start up)

Have check engine light on. Saying bad purge solenoid. Replaced it. Light still came on. When I get fuel the suv bucks and stalls for a bit. Checked with a buddy at Ford motor company. Stated they know of the problem with it. But don't have a solution. Being an a.s.e. tech myself. And reading up on this. I see ford did recall the focus for this same issue. Why have they not recalled others vehicles like mine. This could be a VERY BAD SAFETY HAZARD. when a person is filling there car the extra fuel is now going into the fuel evap system, backwards. So it's filling up as system that is meant only for fumes. If something in this system shorts out or have a internal engine back fire from this extra fuel. It could potentially cause a explosion in the fuel system and with a full tank of fuel that would not have a happy ending. The nhtsa Must get on ford to fix this problem asap.

The component that failed was the long block and is currently available for inspection. The date when the issue 1st appeared was Nov 20 2023. The issue has since been isolated as a coolant leak in my cylinders and Ford is very aware of the issue and has a TSB 22-2229 discussing some of the symptoms. The coolant intrusion compromised the motors ability to react to demand for power. The vehicle shakes while idling and has faltered when trying to gain entry onto on-ramps for I-20. The failure of the vehicle to meet the power requirements asked of it to merge and the sudden loss of power nearly left my vehicle rear ended with both my toddler and my teenager present. The check engine light illuminated showing a code of P0301 for a cylinder 1 miss-fire. All 4 spark plugs were replaced in an attempt to fix the issue. The check engine light came on again within 48 hours after the repair was made. During the next inspection the coolant level was noted as low. Coolant was added at that time and cylinder 1 coil pack was replaced to fix the issue. The check engine light came on again and coolant was once again low within 48 hours of the 2nd repair. Ford-??s service bulletin TSB 22-2229 addressing the known coolant intrusion issue for the 2015-mid 2019 Ford Edge was presented as the needed repair. This engine failure poses a risk for the car owner, occupants, and surrounding bystanders. It has a fire risk, power failure risk, and quite possible a loss of life risk. Repairs will be made by the local Ford dealership within the week.

After putting gas in the vehicle, the vehicle was acting sluggish. It did not want to start and after it did it wasn't going full speed. I proceeded to leave the gas station and no sooner did the vehicle started to sputter and 'died' while making a U-turn. I am afraid that this will cause in accident if not remedied. I don't understand that off the Ford Focus was having this issue why is this not on recall for this vehicle. I will be calling and writing to Ford on this issue. I would like this to be mentioned and I took my vehicle to Yeoman Ford of The Villages in Belleview. This is disgraceful how a part can be defective and yet not covered in another vehicle with the same issue. I would like for A Supervisor to help with this problem to please and thank you.

In June our 2017 Ford Edge's check engine light came on. We took it to our mechanic who told us it would need a new engine block due to leaking coolant, but that they don't do that. He told us there is a TSB out and advised us to take it to the dealership. We took it to West Hills Ford in Bremerton on July 15 and they confirmed it has the known defect and that it does need a new engine due to the coolant intrusion. For reference, my car has less than 30,000 miles on it, but it is past the 5 year mark that Ford will cover. West Hills Ford has had our car for 3 weeks without working on it because we are trying to get our extended warranty to help cover the cost of a new engine. We are lucky that we dropped it off when we did because we have read about this known issue causing smoke, and even the car catching on fire!

My 2007 Ford Edge / 2.0 Ecoboost engine model (with only 69,000+ miles) had a distinct unsettling shake upon starting, and would occur occasionally during regular driving - causing Check Engine light to appear. Ford dealership inspected and verified that "coolant leaked into the 3rd cylinder - causing a crack in the engine - and only remedy is a total engine replacement." Obviously now an unsafe vehicle to drive. Upon my research / lengthy investigation, I found hundreds of similar failures with this model (to include 2015-2018 Ford Edges with 2.0 Ecoboost engine). Models with this engine version will eventually fail - usually around the 70,000 mile average landmark (which is ironically slightly out of from Ford's 60,000 warranty coverage - rendering this "not covered" by Ford) - and Ford has apparently known this for years. Ford's choices / options offered to me (and upon reading, hundreds of others) center on my being responsible for paying for the replacement - making me responsible for the cost (quoted price from the dealer was around $8200) on a vehicle with only 69,000+ miles on it - with a flawed engine design that Ford has been aware of. Was told (in similar if not exact terms) that they aren't responsible for the replacement cost because "There is no Recall on this", and "you are out of warranty" (but by less than 10,000 miles). Or another option is "you can trade it in" (for substantially below what it used to worth). In addition to my being responsible for the cost, the Edge is now worth less than what it was, as if I resell it, I'll need to disclose the problem - and engine replacement. In summary, this is not only unacceptable on the surface, but morally reprehensible. A recall on this (and other similar models), making Ford responsible to costs regarding this well known engine flaw is the right course of action not on for myself, but for the (at least) hundreds with the same problem - and thousands that will eventually have the problem. Thank you.

Engine coolant getting into cylinders with symptoms of coolant loss, white exhaust smoke, rough running engine, and engine light on. This leads to rapid loss of coolant. I need to refill the coolant at the end of each day of driving, creating a potential further engine damage and risk of fire. A Ford dealership inspected the vehicle and determined these facts to be the case. The repair they deemed necessary is a new long block -- on my vehicle of only 45,000 miles -- at a price of $8,500.

Check engine light came on after 63,000 miles of my 2017 Ford Edge. Took the vehicle to the dealership and was told coolant is leaking into the cylinder head per error code. Dealership stated a new engine is required to address the issue. After some research it appears that this is not an isolated issue with this vehicle. It is time for Ford to acknowledge this vehicle or engine has a quality issue and do the right thing for their customers.

Common issue with purge valve to be leaking and is not in the manufacturer warranty according to them does not allow vehicle to get correct mpg. Vehicle will studder at idle or after fuel fill up. Check engine light came on. Multiple misfires while stationary and while driving. Codes read P0302-misfire on cylinder 2 and P0316- oasis found tsb. Replaced all spark plugs and cylinder 2. check engine light went off and turned back on the next day and read the same codes. Ford says this was from a design flaw but hasn't been recalled, but the new motors have been redesigned. I would have to purchase a new long block and service for $7000 when this should have been recalled due to how many it has affected.
