The vehicle was bought in 2023 with 72,000 miles. Within one month, the engine light came on for misfire in cylinder 3. After replacing the spark plugs, with one day, the engine light came back on. It was later diagnosed by Ford dealer that there was coolant leaking into the cylinder. The dealer said it is a "known" problem per Ford for several years. A complete engine replacement was needed. The Ford dealership said they replace engines on Edges on a regular basis. This should be looked into as a recall.

Purchased a 2018 ford edge new I-??m early 2019. The car has 65k miles and needs a new engine due to coolant leak into cylinder 3. This should be a recall item and Ford refuses to stand by its product. An engine with miles this low should not need replacement.

Ford Edge using coolant, temperature light turning on. Scanner indicates misfiring on cylinder #3. TSB report shows ongoing issue with a cracked cylinder, #3, causing the misfiring and coolant use. Vehicle has only 77K miles on it and maintained by dealership. This is a on going issue that apparently can only be resolved by replacing the engine.

Coolant leaks into engine cylinders. Symptoms included rough starting, loss of power, white smoke from the exhaust and Check Engine Light. Engine is available for inspection. Safety is comprised as the engine will suddenly lose power while driving. Diagnosis was confirmed by independent service center using Ford TSB 19-2346. Remedy is a complete engine replacement (per TSB). Called Ford Customer Service and they will not replace the engine under the drivetrain warranty (5 years or 60,000 miles) as the vehicle has 85,000 miles. Ford stated I MUST take the vehicle to a Ford dealership for diagnosis at which time they MAY have a financial assistance program which would only pay a percentage of the repair. The percentage is unknown, availability of programs is unknown and they could give me no further information. An internet search will reveal hundreds of owners with the same issue, spanning the 2015 - 2018 Ford Edge model years. I also found two lawsuits currently in the courts concerning this issue. Ford has known about this issue since 2010, they even provided a recall for the 1.5L EcoBoost engine, which is the same type of engine design as the 2.0L EcoBoost engine.

Bought used Feb. 2023. End of March cylinder 3 misfire code pops when the check engine light comes on. Replaced all spark plugs and 1 engine coil for cylinder 3. On off until Aug. 9th when the light came back on and I took to Ford Dealership. Paid for a diagnosis and the next day they called and said the coolant is leaking into the engine and this is a -??known issue-?? and I will need a new engine. I have barely put 3,000 miles on top of the miles it came with. Should not have to pay for a new engine with a -??known issue-??!

Car just hit 100000 miles. Engine light came on. Took to Barnes Crossing Ford in New Albany. After inspection was in formed coolant was leaking into engine and block needed to be replaced. The car did not overheat but the coolant leaking into engine could have ignited a fire due to other chemicals present such as oil, and other fluids needed to operate motor. TSB was already issued regarding this defect as well as multiple complaints and a recall on escapes and fusions that ended in 2022. Because of lack of investigation and safe recall this problem continues to pose a danger to myself and others. Motor has to be replaced at the nominal fee of $6500. The problem continues to exist.

My Edge overheated on me and had it towed to Ford dealership where they diagnosed my car as having coolant leaking into my cylinders and ruined my engine. Ford is aware of this and does not care at all. I want to join the class action lawsuit over this issue. I-??m stuck owing 23,000 on a car i can-??t drive and engine replacement isn-??t a smart idea since they won-??t fix the coolant issue and it will just happen again.

Engine emission light came on. cylinder 2 misfire code. Engine ruinning rough when first started. Dealer found coolant low. Performed diagnostics - need new engine. coolant leaking into engine. Not part of an existing recall but known problem. In reading what could happen: my engine could over heat, seize and start on fire. I was fortunate that none of this occured putting myself or others at risk or leaving me stranded on the road. I am attaching the technical service bulletin. this recall needs to be expanded. Vehicle currently at the dealer. We are determining next steps. https://www.com/ford-edge-recalls/#:~:text=2016%2C%202017%20and%202018%20Ford, and%20a%20loss%20of%20power.

Edge

  • miles
Cylinder engine misfires due to a faulty manufactured head gasket. Ford motor co was apparently aware of the manufacturing flaw but has yet to issue a recall on certain Ford Edge models sold manufactured and sold between 2013 -2018. The solution to the problem requires a completely new engine with average cost ranging between $6,000 to $8,000 dollars. If these particular models are driven without the requisite repairs it can result in complete engine failure of fires. This presents a serious hazard to drivers and occupants of the vehicle as well as other motorists.
