Check engine light appeared and the car ran rough. I took the car to an automotive repair shop. Spark plugs are misfiring into the cylinder causing coolant to leak into the engine. Then causing the engine block to crack. 2018 ford edge with only 38000 miles. The engine could start on fire and cause catastrophic failure. The car is not drivable and the mechanic cannot repair it without changing the whole engine out.

Owner of a 2018 Ford Edge SEL 2.0 L Eco Boost, approx. 40,000 miles. Started experiencing a dip in RMP-??s while idling. Check engine light came on. Vehicle was registering a -??misfire-??. Uncertain if it was spark plugs, coil pack and/or head gasket the computer was reset and vehicle was given back. Engine light appears AGAIN. This time, local repair shop opened the cylinders and discovered a small amount of coolant and/or oil. Cylinders were cleaned and vehicle was given back. AGAIN, engine light appeared 3rd time and made an appointment with Scarsdale Ford Service. At FORD Service, spoke to -??Ralph.-?? Initially, was informed it might just need sparks plugs. (KNOWING THERE-??s A FLAWED ENGINE DESIGN THAT ALLOWS COOLANT TO ENTER THE ENGINE BLOCK ERODING EVERYTHING. So much so, that FORD has issued a -??technical service bulletin-?? BUT refuses to recall the engine). Later, was told the engine needs to be replaced and it would cost $10k for repair. Spoke to Ford Customer Service who only filed a -??request-?? for -??up to $5k in repairs-?? which is not guaranteed. Awaiting judgement from that. AND they placed a request for -??buy back-?? from all the forms which I am reading. I can only expect to be offered up to $3k. This is unacceptable. No one buys a car and expects it to last less than 50k miles. Also, knowing the ongoing issues with specifically the 2018 2.0 L Eco Boost, why wasn-??t i informed of this sooner" Why was I not given options" Instead, it-??s too late now. My engine is dead and sitting at Ford Service and no one at FORD seems to be helping. I can offer documentation of all of this and available by phone or email for any follow up questions.

Coolant intrusion into #2 cylinder of 2.0 eco-boost engine Confirmed by mechanic at Ford dealership are they diagnosis with pressure test and bore scope. i-??ve read online of the inquiries for this and other Ford dungeons the 2018 Ford edge which led to recalls for the Ford fusion and escape, but did not include the Ford edge. I cannot understand why the Ford edge was not included in the recall since it has the same problems and same engine, Ford supervisor told me it may be because there was not enough complaints so I-??m registering my complaint today. I have been in contact with Ford customer service. Please help me understand this situation. Is it possible there will be a recall on this engine sometime in the future?

There was a cylinder wall breach causing coolant intrusion in to the engine. It-??s issue is extremely common with the 2.0 ecoboost engines. My service engine light came on and I checked all fluids coolant was low and it was showing a misfire in cylinder #3. Replaced the park plug and added coolant and service engine light when off so I kept driving it. A couple days later I was driving and my car started over heating on a highway causing significant loss of power having to pull over to the side of the road to avoid an accident with my grand children in the car [XXX] and a [XXX]. Check engine light is on again check the codes and now misfire in cylinder 4 and crank shaft position is off. I took it to a ford dealership and the only fix is to replace the engine at 90,000 miles"?" This repair will cost (($8500)). I haven-??t had the car inspected by police or insurance company. Thank God it didn-??t cause an accident or catch fire do to my rapid response otherwise this could have caused a fire or accident or even the loss of life for me or my grandchildren. I can-??t believe Ford is allowed to sell these vehicles with this much of a threat to the people that are driving them. My vehicle has to sit because I can-??t afford an $8000 hit right now. It-??ll render me homeless-??.I am currently making a $600 car payment and $145 insurance payment on a car that is technically totaled. I-??m asking for rides to work and there are days that I don-??t make it to work. I have tried to tread in the vehicle but only getting $4000 for the tread in"?" My 2018 Edge AWD with leather interior is in mint condition minus the engine issue that they were aware of. This should be illegal!! Warning light appeared on dashboard. Vehicle eventually had a very difficult time moving forward and would not go more than 5 mph uphill. Took vehicle to Ford dealer service center for diagnosis. The report from dealer states, "Verified concern, scanned for fault codes and found codes P01229, P0301 SN P00012. Pressure tested coolant system and found coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The technician advised to correct condition the long block would need to be replaced." (Attaching a copy of the report). Subsequent internet searches demonstrate that this is a known problem with Ford engines.

The engine began having a misfire around 58k miles and low coolant levels. No coolant drips or leaks were detected on the exterior. After some research I found that the 2.0 Ecoboost used in these vehicles is prone to coolant intrusion due to a defective engine block. After a trip the car unexpectedly would not start, it would crank over but it would not start. After sending it to my dealer they confirmed coolant intrusion and explained the car needed a new engine. The car was bought certified used, every service was done on time at a Ford dealer. There was no way to avoid the defective engine in this car, no amount of preventative maintenance would stop this from happening. Ford has a bulletin out on these engines, so they know there's an issue. There's no reason for a low mileage well cared for vehicle to need a replacement engine at 60k miles.

Faulty engine design (thin wall between coolant chamber and cylinders) allows for coolant to enter the cylinders. This leads to an overheating engine (that can catch fire) and ultimately creates a blown head gasket. This is a common issue in the Ford EcoBoost engines. There is a TSB on the 1.5 liter engines, but not the 2.0 on this model. There is currently a large lawsuit happening for this reason. Vehicles with under 60k miles are getting blown engines for this problem, most people still owe several thousand dollars on their vehicle when this happens.
