Ford has a known problem with Ecoboost engines can leak coolant into the engine-??s valves. This happened to our vehicle and we had to replace the engine due to misfiring cylinders. The check engine light kept coming on. We intially replaced all spark plugs and coils. Then after that didn't resolve the problem, the entire engine had to be replaced.

My ford edge has a problem where coolant mysteriously disappears a flood like it-??s getting vacuumed into engine cylinders causing the engine to run rough with white smoke coming from exhaust. This is on my 2.0l turbocharged ecoboost engine and I have already seen other consumer reports about other having the same issue all over social media and Ford will not do anything about it and will charge you almost $10,000 dollars for something that was their fault. They made a mistake in creating the engine block and thus now many people are suffering because of this.

2.0L EcoBoost engine - while driving the 2018 Ford Edge with approximately 50K miles, the vehicle displayed a rapid overtemp condition and then a check engine light for a misfire on cylinder 2. Coolant was almost empty and I re-filled the resivoir and dealer reset the check engine light. This happened about two more times with the coolant resivoir along with multiple check engine lights for the #2 cylinder. Each time the Ford dealer reset the check engine light for the #2 cylinder but did not give information about why the coolant level was dropping to almost zero. I went to a different dealer who referred me to the Ford TCB 22-2229. I Spoke to Ford customer service directly and the engine long block was replaced at my expense since Ford would not pay for the repair.

The defect involves the engine block or cylinder head design, which allows engine coolant to intrude into the engine's combustion cylinders. Coolant mixing with the engine oil will cause a catastrophic failure and can lead to an engine fire. Ford has issued Technical Service Bulletins TSB 19-2346 but it does not cover any cost and no recalls have been issued. This is a known manufacturing defect in which Ford is taking no accountability.

2018 Ford Edge with 119K miles. Issue has been determined to be the known issue of coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The issue was noticed while stopped at a traffic light, vehicle started "reving" and showed RPM fluctuations. On two separate occasions, the vehicle lost all ability to accelerate while driving. It's also has white smoke coming out of the exhaust and has been losing coolant at an alarming rate. After multiple inspections and other attempted fixes (water pump replacement, spark plugs replaced, fuel pump replaced), it's been determined that the coolant intrusion is to blame. The vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive in the current state and extended warranty is no longer in affect due to the mileage.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine hesitated to turn over. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a coolant intrusion in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired due to the costs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

2018 Ford Edge engine size 2.0 ecoboost has a coolant intrusion that Ford is well aware of but refuse to help customers with the problem. Engine could fail while driving on the highway but they have not issue an emergency recall for it.. This is a very serious manufacture error on behalf of Ford Motor.

The problem began in early August 2025 when the check engine light came on and the vehicle misfired. A Ford mobile technician inspected it before 8/23/25, confirmed Diagnostic Code P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire), but said it was likely just a bad ignition coil. Based on that, I went to Midas on 8/23/25 for a tune-up and coil check. On 9/29/25, the check engine light returned and for the first time the coolant over-temperature warning illuminated. Midas confirmed coolant intrusion into Cylinder 3: borescope and pressure test showed leakage, leak-down test failed with air entering the coolant reservoir, and visible coolant loss was present. At 80,445 miles, the engine was deemed unsafe and required full replacement. Hawk Ford confirmed no warranty extensions or programs applied. The repair cost was $10,500 out of pocket. This defect matches Ford TSB [XXX], is widely reported in EcoBoost engines, and creates a serious safety risk since the vehicle misfires, overheats, and may stall while driving. My car started overheating this morning. Took it to my mechanic & he told me I had a cracked head gasket where coolant was leaking. He thought there was a recall/notice about some coolant issues. Sent me to our local Ford dealership; they said my vehicle wasn't covered under any recalls. But there is a notification about this very issue. I attached a screenshot of the exact issue listed online that matches my problem.

Driving felt weird like the vehicle was stuttering and I heard liquid sloshing around as I was driving. Check engine light came on and turned off again on its own on 2 separate occasions within 2 weeks. The first time it came on, I made an appointment at the service center but the check engine light had gone off by the time I brought it in. I was told they couldn't diagnose it if the check engine light was off. When it came on again, I took it to my local Ford service center and they diagnosed it with coolant leaking into the cylinder, causing a misfire. The recommended solution is a full engine replacement costing over $8,000. Apparently this is a known issue and a service bulletin was issued in 2022 (before I bought the car used) but Ford is refusing to issue a recall. The car only has 65k miles.

Our 2018 Ford Edge started idling rough after spark plug change and after dealer tested it they told us it had engine coolant in #2 Cylinder and that driving it could lead to catastrophic engine failure. Only fix is complete engine block replacement (Recommended by Ford in Bulletin TSB22-2229) along with new turbo as it may also have been damaged by coolant leak. (Could also damage catalytic converter. This is a known default due to design fault in 2.0 litre engine. Since vehicle is off warranty, the repair replacement is going to cost over $10,000. I understand this is affecting a serious number of Ford customers with this engine, a number of which have been quietly replaced under warranty. I feel Ford owes their customers replacement costs on this issue and a recall should be issued. If ones motor seizes up suddenly while driving it could result in injury or death. I have contacted Ford directly, and their response is it's out of warranty so I am out of luck.

The engine failed before 55,000 miles. Collant is getting into the engine and causing a cylinder failure. This is a known problem for this engine. The Ford mechanic and other mechanics stated that they no longer use that engine due to the problem. Since I did not purchase an extended warranty, Ford is requiring nearly $12,000 to replace the engine. Started rough 1 morning, then ran fine within 1 mile. Next start was smooth, but the check engine light came on. The check engine light did not stay on consistently. The next time it felt rough, I took it into Ford to see what was happening.

The car has been having a chemical smell when it starts. I recently was driving from San Antonio, Texas to Austin, Texas and received a warning that my car was overheating. The warning went off immediately and I continued driving it. A few days later, I got an oil change and was told that I had no coolant in the vehicle. They filled the coolant for me. I continued driving the car. This week, the car was shaking pretty violently when I turned on the ignition. I proceeded to drive it and it drove normally. The following day, a check engine light came on. I took it in to see a mechanic that day and they confirmed that I had a coolant intrusion problem caused by the 2.0L Eco boost engine which is defective and allows coolant to escape into the engine injectors. Ford is not taking any responsibility for this and says that it is not under warranty so there's no programs they can offer me. Ford should issue a recall of this defective product to avoid injuries or accidents.

Coolant intrusion defect. The engine coolant leaks into the combustion chamber, due to a failure in the engine block design. TSB 19-2346 issued by Ford addresses this known and serious issue for my 2018 Ford Edge, 2.0L EcoBoost engine. In 2024, I purchased a used, 2018 Ford Edge with 49k miles. A few months after I purchased this used vehicle at a dealership, my Check Engine light came on. The vehicle showed other symptoms of white smoke, coolant loss, misfiring and rough idle. I brought my car to a local dealership (not the same dealership that I purchased the vehicle) and they confirmed the coolant intrusion defect. When I purchased the vehicle, it didn't come with a warranty. I tried getting help from by calling Ford Customer Service, and they offered no goodwill assistance and no coverage assistance at all. I ended up having a new engine put in my vehicle for $7,000. This was done by a local car repair shop, not done at a dealership. I now have to pay a loan for $7k on top of my monthly car payment that existed before the new engine. Although my vehicle is no longer under warrant, I understand this issue stems from a documented manufacturing defect and has affected a wide range of Ford models. I've taken good care of my vehicle and it has been maintained regularly. I want to retain confidence in Ford as a brand that stands behind its products, but I didn't get anywhere with Ford after submitting a case and speaking with a representative and also a manager. I don't know what else to do in trying to get reimbursed for the replacement of the engine of $7,000. I would like to be added to any potential class-action. I called Ford Customer Service at 800-392-3673 Case # [XXX] Manger Maurice Dealership that I had the coolant intrusion diagnosed: Gary Yeomans Ford, 1202 Malabar Rd, Palm Bay, FL 32907 Service person: Stuart 321-272-7659 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

At 77,000 Kilometers, check engine light came on, during inspection it is observed that there is an active coolant intrusion leak in cylinders 1 and 3. This is a Ford Edge 2018, with a 2.0L Ecoboost engine. The car is undriveable and needs a full engine replacement.

Cylinder misfire, caused coolant intrusion into cylinder caused by defective motor wall. This could have caused by engine to lock up while driving and cause an accident. Luckily I was able to get it to the dealer before that happened. FORD is aware of this defective motor in these models but has refused to issue a recall. My car is a 2018, however, the car ONLY has 50,000 miles on it. I want others to know of this danger. These engines should be recalled before someone is hurt in crash due to this defect.

I had a Cylinder misfire (code P0302) due to coolant intrusion into the engine cylinder. This was due to a crack in the engine block. This is a common issue with the 2.0L ecoboost engine. No recall. Ford's fix was for me to replace the long block engine with a redesign version to fix the casting problem. This cost was covered by me, even though this is a known common issue by Ford that requires an engine replacement. The engine had 78,193 miles on it, so it was out of warranty. Repair cost me over $7,000. There is are currently lawsuits due to this case and engine. [XXX] and [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
