The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V575000 (Visibility) and the vehicle was repaired before the contact took ownership of the vehicle. The contact stated that after taking ownership of the vehicle, the rearview camera failed to display an image in the rear of the vehicle. The camera displayed a black screen in cold and snowy weather. The contact stated that the carpet near the wheel wells would collect snow causing ice to form around the tires, causing damages to the tires. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V575000 (Visibility) was related to the present failure; however, the vehicle could not be repaired free of charge. The dealer had placed washers near the wheels to prevent snow from accumulating by holding down the carpet. The vehicle was sprayed with a liquid to prevent further damage to the wheel wells as well as another liquid on the back over the camera to ensure that the rear of the vehicle would be properly displayed. The contact stated that the repairs only prevented the failure from occurring temporarily. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was filed. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 86,000.

On multiple occasions over the past year of owning the vehicle the liftgate has not functioned properly. In one instance it failed to open with any attempt (remote, dash button, liftgate button) - we could not get it to open and had to leave it at dealership to be repaired. Since then, there have been 3-4 other times when it won't close and latch properly despite there being nothing in the way. It will lower, start to latch, then release itself and reopen. On those occasions, it can take up to 20 attempts to get it to close, latch, and remain closed. I have taken it twice to be looked at, but the dealership can't get it to replicate the malfunction and therefore have been unable to repair it.

I am leasing the vehicle and had it for 6 months. When parked and loading groceries into the rear, the liftgate has come down on my head and back at least 5 times on its own. There is a sensor that is under the car and activates when your feet are under it. Faulty design. You cannot load the back without this liftgate coming down on you. I have been hurt and suffered headaches after getting hit with the liftgate. I have contacted Ford and have an open case with them addressing this issue. I researched this issue and it seems there have been many complaints about this same issue on the internet.

The back hatch door was open to put shopping items away, and my daughter turned around to put a cart away in a parking lot. All of a sudden another vehicle was coming and she backed up with a cart in front of her, and the hatch door hit her between the shoulders. It hit her, it stopped and then moved upwards. Something like this also happened to me with another Ford that I traded in last year for this 2020 Ford. The vehicle was in for a camera repair prior to this, so do not know if a sensor is out or not functioning correctly; and the rear end of the vehicle makes a creaking noise since they replaced the rear view camera. Do not know if this has anything do do with the hatch back open and close function. The vehicle was in park in a spot in a shopping center on a two way parking lot.
