Ford Escape power assist steering recall just purchased vehicle Oct 14 2016. Nov 7,2016 the power steering assist went out when making a left turn at 10mph. Found out there was a recall on this, took to dealership & they told me no recall on this vehicle was found. Dealership wants $700 to fix. Contacted Ford customer support & was informed that a system update was done in Aug 2014 for the recall. On 2nd call to Ford cust spt, a "investigation" was opened & sent to dealership to have them try to work with it. After numerous phone calls, both the dealership & Ford cust support were both putting it off on the other to work with the issue. I feel that this recall should be an ongoing recall if they are only going to do the system update & not replace the steering shaft torque sensor on the first occurrence, or that the steering shaft torque sensor should just be replaced instead of a system update at no cost to the vehicle owner. There are too many complaints that I've read in the last 48hrs of this happening over & over again to people who've had only the system update. I'm currently waiting on a phone call from the dealership to have this situation taken care of, on their part. I will not stop voicing myself, on behalf of others who've had this same issue happen to them, more than once!!

This can happen any time the engine is stop, while park at home, shopping any where the engine is stop. To start the key in inserted to steering column opening and it will not engage properly at times it takes to move back and fort the key while inserted and it will start, this is happening more often now. Took the Escape to grand prairie Ford Texas and they said it was the steering column lock module need to be replace plus an alignment total for $787.65 understand that the 2009 Escape has the same problem but Ford has issued a recall on it but not the 2010, this is rather absurd since the know the problem. Now I have the choice to repair or drive until the key no longer works, what a choice, I'm a widower, retired and live on ss, thanks Ford.

The ignition switch on my vehicle no longer works and has to be replaced. This is a recall for the 2009 Ford Escape but not the 2010 and Ford is telling me I have to pay between $500 and $600 to fix something they know if broken. The advisor even told me that Ford is aware it is the exact same parts in the 2009 and 2010 that is broken but Ford will not issue a recall until enough people complain about the issue. What kind of crap is that. So I now have a vehicle I am still making payments on because I purchased it preowned and cannot drive it because Ford has defective parts in the vehicle and refuses to own up to it until enough people come forward to complain about it. I spoke with an advisor at the five star Ford in plano, Texas.

A recall was issued in 2014 for the power steering. I took my vehicle to the dealer and the "fixed" the recall in Oct of 2014. Today the power steering failed while my husband was driving the car. He was also making a turn in a busy intersection. Had I been driving, I would not have been able to control the car with manual steering and may have caused an accident. I have put less than 20K miles on the car since the "fix" but I am outside the 2 year or 12,000 mile warranty period for the recall. It takes my about 30 seconds to find others on forums that this exact same thing has happened to. I don't think a software fix (which is what was done) was the appropriate fix for a determined faulty part, the torque sensor. Ford needs to do the right thing and recall the part and not take the easy way out and do a software update.

Power steering suddenly went out while my wife and her client were parking at a retail store. Power steering has not returned since. My wife was able to park the vehicle safely but not able to steer it to move the vehicle anywhere after that (I had to wrestle with the steering to move the vehicle to a repair facility). The local Ford dealership diagnosed this as a torque sensor failure. Recall 14S05 service was performed in 2014 in as much as the software for the system was updated -no parts were replaced. Ford has stated that the torque sensors in the affected vehicles are known to be faulty yet, when a unit fails (like mine) after the software has been updated, they refuse to fix it. My vehicle has just over 83,000 miles which is well below the reasonable life expectancy for a torque sensor. Ford customer service and recall departments have refused any further remediation.
