I purchased my car used in Dec. 2016 with 79,000 miles, and have had consistent problems ever since. In Aug. 2017 (94,888 mileage), I had take the car to the dealership service center because the engine would stall and stop due to high engine temperature - I was consistently adding coolant, probably every few days. The service department found the coolant leak came from the water pump, so they replaced the leaking water pump, as well as the cabin air filter and spark plugs. Then in June 2018, I had a flat tire and couldn't put the spare on because the lug nuts were swollen/warped - took it to the dealership and they had to replace all sets. In Sept. 2018 (113,516 mileage), I was driving home, the engine stopped accelerating, and I knew it was the transmission. I had the car towed to the Ford dealership. They had to "replace the torque converter and completely replace the transmission". they also found the half shaft was leaking, so they "replaced the left hand bushing/seal/half shaft because the shaft was scored". in Jan. 2019, I had taken the car to get serviced because within 1 days time, I had 5 light bulbs blow out and needed replacing. Later in the summer 2019, I was having coolant issues again, and took it to the dealership where they told me the coolant sensor was malfunctioning. I did not have that replaced because I said I would keep an eye on the coolant levels. Now, April 2020, my coolant level's are getting low again, and there is a consistent smell of coolant surrounding the vehicle when engine is on. After driving for 20+ minutes, and coming to an idle stop, the car smells like exhaust and coolant mixed, and there is occasional smoke billows from the exhaust pipes. I have looked under the engine and found oil leaks (pics attached), and believe my car matches the NHTSA campaign id number: 12V551000 even though recalls never show up for my VIN

There have been several coolant recalls for Ford Escapes. Mine fell under one recall. My coolant light continued to come on and when I took it to the dealer, they would top it off as a courtesy and I never received a work order. I had to replace a coolant valve once and then I took it to the dealer again and the same thing was wrong. I reached out to Ford since there have been several recalls for the coolant but they would not cover any portion of the cost. I feel that my car should have been part of the recalls since if I had not had this part replaced, the coolant would have leaked and the car could have started on fire. The advisor actually said, I was highly recommending you get this repair. I contacted Ford and asked them for a customer review because my car could have caused serious damage and asked them to help with the cost and they said they couldn't. I am reaching out because my car should have been part of the recall and this should have been covered.

The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The driver was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle operated as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The driver was informed that the belts and clutches in the transmission were slipping which caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither a dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,529.

2013 Ford Escape experiences apparent transmission failures at highway speeds. Often during passing acceleration. Repeated instances. From 50K miles to 70K miles. One instance involving all wheels locking up at 80mph (felt like a shift into park) and the others involving drivetrain power loss and jerking. After car restart, codes "apparently" disappear and dealers are unable to identify any issues without codes.

We bought 2013 Ford Escape in July, 2016, with approximately 62,000 miles. At 64,000 miles, after constant overheating issues, Ford agreed to replace the engine. There were overheating issues on the new engine at time of install (stated in dealer notes), but they "fixed" them. The car now has 103,000 miles. Has been serviced regularly, with occasional overheating issues noted. Transmission failed last month. Waited over 2 weeks for diagnosis. Transmission needs to be replaced and another new engine is needed because of coolant leak. Our extended warranty expired at 100,000 miles. Contacted Ford customer service and they refuse to do anything to help. It seems that they put another defective engine in at 64,000 miles because you should get more that 40,000 miles on a new engine. The cost to repair this piece of junk is prohibitive and I feel very unhappy with Ford's response.

I just purchased my vehicle almost 2 years ago. The vehicle has had stalling and acceleration issues since then. I took it back to the dealer and they stated that they didn't find a problem only in the joints of my wheel bearings. Two weeks later. I was driving on the highway and it felt like someone hit my car. When I looked back there was nobody behind me. I pulled over to check my vehicle out. When I got back in my car. It was hard to shift my gears. I tried to drive off but my car wouldn't move no faster than 5 miles per hour with me pushing the acceleration pedal to the ground. I almost got hit by a semi truck. I found out from a mechanic that it was my transmission. No warranty is available. My car is just sitting in my garage and now I'm catching the bus while paying a car note. Please help. I don't have 2500 to fix this. It's too many recalls on this site about the same problem. Please help us.

As I was driving I noticed my car jerking going in to first gear. I figured because I was on a hill that was the reason. Later that day as I was trying to run errand as I got in the highway my car wouldn't go above 60 mph and was at very high rpms to maintain this speed and would not go into 6th gear. I pulled off of the highway and started to make my home to call the dealership. As I made it to a red light the car jerked again when I stopped. As I went to accelerate I made it in the middle of the intersection when my car lost all power and would only rev as if it was in nuetral. After turning it off and back on it ran well enough for me to make it home and I am currently awaiting my appointment with the dealership. I'm at 63K miles and purchased the vehicle 3 months ago and it had about 50K miles on it. I drive a 2013 Ford Escape ecoboost. This defect is very dangerous and I could have been seriously injured being stuck in an intersection like that. This issue needs to be resolved seeing that I'm not the only one who has had this issue speaking with mechanics here and the dealership who all have a number of this same vehicle with similar issues.

Have a 2013 Ford Escape titanium. My son was pulling onto a major road from a gas station. He was in the middle of the road the transmission failed no warning. Then it jerked and he had to give it high RPM for it to crawl. He almost got T boned by a big truck.very unsafe situation. Brought car to Ford service tech said he would check transmission fluid as I could not no dip stick car had only 127,000 miles on it.service advisor got back to me he said you need new transmission. $3600-$5000. Asked to file complaint with Ford he refused said it's a waste of time Ford will not do anything. He said life expectancy of these transmissions was between 100,000-120,000 miles I posed this question to him if he knew life expectancy of a cars transmission and it was 100-000 to 120,000 miles would he buy car he said he could not answer that. Sent numerous correspondence to Ford did not get 1 response from anyone at Ford. Finally talked to a real person at Ford headquarters in Michigan. Ford won't do anything is what I was told. I posed same question as service advisor. Same answer. I can't answer that. Thousands of the same comments on internet same problems. Ford does not seem interested in doing the right thing with a recall or at least help out these Ford customers. Very unsafe Ford might be waiting till someone dies from this transmission problem. There playing the odds maybe? comments on internet some people had the repair or replacement. Then transmission went for a second time. Can't drive car the way it is.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. When the gear was shifted into park, the vehicle went into neutral. The contact had assistance with placing the gear in drive and took the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic released the gear shifter lever in order to drive; however, the gear could not be shifted into reverse or park. The contact also had to charge the battery. The contact was concerned that the battery had to be charged again due to the gear shifter not engaging into park or reverse. The contact spoke with an unknown dealer and was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 18V471000 (power train). The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 56,826.

My car constantly stalls. It stalled periodically but I thought well maybe it's was because of how hot it was outside. But that it's the case. I can be at a light stopped, driving down the street/expressway and it'll start to lose stutter and stall out with only the battery light and oil lamp light coming on. Sometimes itll start right back up others it has it sit and cool down. Even tho my engine isn't reading hot or anything along those lines. Everything reads fine. I've taken to multiple shops and finally just 5 days ago to a Ford dealer who had my car for almost 3 days and all he could say is it looks like I could possibly have a cracked water pump! they need to do something for us with the 1.6 it seems to be the same exact thing going on with the 2.0. today when my car stalled my oil dipstick was smoking

The torque converter on my 2013 Ford Escape started to thump when shifted into drive after initial start-ups. The problem began somewhere around 86000+ miles. There would be no subsequent problems when taking the vehicle out of drive (I.e., after backing up or being placed into park) once the vehicle was running a while (heated up). Vehicle now has 87000+ miles and on 11/07/19 I received a message "transmission fault. Service now." I put the car in drive and the message disappeared. On 11/08/19 I started the vehicle and shifted into drive. This time the transmission did not engage and was unable to move the vehicle forward. Later in the evening I tried starting and shifting the Escape into drive. The vehicle shifted into drive with the usual thump and I was able to move the SUV forward. The torque converted appears to be on its way out. I plan to take it to a dealer for diagnosis. I want to report this as I understand that other who own similar vehicles (Ford Escapes) are also experiencing problems with their torque converts and transmissions.
