On the driver door, the door check welds have failed. Heard a grinding clunking sound and had my mechanic look at the car; he identified what had occurred. I have researched online and found instances where once this is broken the door might open without warning. Because of this I am very gentle in using the door, opening it just enough to get inside. I do not use the window. I had my dealer body shop look at the door and they advised this is a problem they have been seeing. Their repair estimate is about $750. That-??s just to rivet the part in place. They advised that to replace the part is approximately $2500. The odd sound the door was making started gradually and became worse. I first noticed a couple of months ago. There were no warning lights or messages prior to failure.

Approximately a week ago we noticed a popping sound in our driver side door. You can see where the rivets have popped free from the sheet metal. This car is over its 3 year warranty by about one week. Yet, the dealer and Ford motor company do not want to do anything to replace our door. This is an issue that ford acknowledged as a problem on this specific car. But, no TSB or recall has been issued yet. Hopefully by leaving this message, the NHTSA will look into this concern. I don't need my wife driving this car with a door that is not safe. Thank you!

The driver door popped open at 70 MPH on the interstate. Pulled over and the door was jammed open about 12 inches. We could not get the door to close or get the window to go down. We had to get out the passenger side. We finally forced the door closed with two of us pushing on it. Now it won't open all the way and the window is stuck about 6 inches from closing. Extremely dangerous situation. The vehicle has 56.000 miles and we purchased it new. Now my wife refuses to ride in it. We are both [XXX]. It's unbelievable that the Ford Motor Company has not addressed this! My dealer is stating the repair could cost us as much as $2000 out of pocket, The NHTSA is our only hope.. Last week, I heard a popping noise when opening my driver side front door of my 2020 Ford Escape. I had the issue diagnosed by my local Ford dealership as broken spot welds on my door. Since then, the issue has progressed and my door no longer closes properly. It is a safety issue because my door is not closing properly and continuing to get worse. I do not feel comfortable driving until it is fixed. I was referred to a body shop by my local dealership for the issue and will have it repaired this week. The body shop confirmed the broken spot welds on my driver side front door.

Hello and thanks, for giving this your attention. 2 days ago, I heard a popping noise when I opened my drivers side door. There is now an issue opening and closing the door. The drivers side door started to have a creaking sound and became difficult to open and close. The window was also hard to open, so I stopped and quickly put it back up. I informed the dealer and they told me they are aware of the problem but Ford isn-??t covering it under warranty-??s. I am currently still driving the vehicle because I have no other and am just very careful how far I open the door and I-??m unable to use the window.

Welds that hold the driver door have broken lose causing the door to make a popping sound when opening and closing. You can see where the weld has broken and the inner brackets are no longer attached. Cant open door all the way as it causes it to bind up and not close. Tried to upload pictures but keep getting an error message.

The driver-side door makes a very loud popping and grinding noise. While driving the vehicle approached a stop like the door suddenly opened while in motion. I took the vehicle to the dealership which told me it was the spot welds in the driver's door and that it would need to be replaced. The vehicle is at 41670 miles and is no longer under warranty. Ford is refusing to cover the repair and will not offer any assistance with helping to offset the cost of the vehicle repair. The vehicle is unsafe to drive as the door can open while in motion due to the weld failures. No warning lamps came on when the incident occurred to indicate that the door was open at any time.

The hinges in my drivers door have become unattached and need to be fixed. I was being quoted a $3800 to fix it. I have never driven a car that has had this issue. I am very dispappointed as this is my 5th Ford Escape and love the car. But this car is a piece of crap. The contact stated the bracket that holds the hinge pin weld broke inside the drivers side door.

The driver's door suddenly became hard to open and close and makes loud noise when doing so. The door does not sound like it is closing well which is a huge concern. I took it to dealer and they knew immediately what the problem is as it's a known issue documented by Ford "SSM 50150 - 2020-2021 Escape - Cracked Or Broken Spot Welds In The Left Front Door At The Check Arm Attachment Points In The Door Assembly". They gave a quote of $3,200 to replace and repair. It is not covered as my car has 39,000 miles and warranty expired at 36,000 miles. I DON'T BELIEVE MILEAGE SHOULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH DOOR FAILURE!!! Ford Motor should step up and fix this known issue - it is a manufacturing defect that welds are failing

Drivers side front door welding has come off the cross-arm bracket making the door make a scratching sound when opening it closing. Has also caused the window to have issues. Door doesn't always latch correctly not and because of the welding that came undone afraid the door will fall off. This could happen while drive and cause not only my car with myself and my family to get hurt but could potentially danger other people. FORD refuses to fix the issues without making me pay for a whole new door when the welding that came undone is a manufacturing flaw that Ford did, nothing that consumers are doing wrong.

Driver's door check arm spot weld broke. There is a technical service bulletin on this issue but Ford will not cover it because I am out of warranty time wise...vehicle only has 27,000 miles on it. I have been climbing in and out on the passenger side of the vehicle because I am worried that the door will not close or will not stay closed as I am driving. My window is also not operating correctly because of this issue.
