I have a 2004 F-150 4X4 4 door. The rear driver door does not open from the inside when unlocked from the inside door lock. It has power locks. Sometimes if you open the door in one swift motion it will open. It will however open halfway, but then stops and you can't get out. I have informed the dealer when it was in on a window problem and they said it would not do it to them, but they made note. Now it won't open if unlocked from the inside, but I have found that if you unlock it with the key pad the door opens most of the time. I have only found this problem from the inside you can open the door from the outside no matter where you unlock it from.

This vehicle was purchased new in this condition; on the supercab model of the F150, the rear driver door can be only partially engaged and with the front door latched, the door display light will be extinguished. This will leave the complete driver side door in a compromised condition. Usually not known until driving under highway speed and hearing a wind whistle from the door not being completely closed. I had contacted Ford Motor Co on December 10th of 2004, about this and their suggestion was to take it to original purchase dealer. However the dealer would not make any adjustments, simply telling me that I should make sure the rear door was secure in the full latched position. I even showed the same activity on another vehicle on the lot at that time. For reasons unknown, the passenger side will complete the closing of the rear door if left in the 1/2 latched position and the front door is closed.

On a Ford F-150 super cab pickup, the problem is this.. it started with me driving down the highway and noticing that there was a windy noise. Much like a window was partially lowered. What I finally discovered, was that the rear door was not completely latched in the full locked position. When I closed the driver door, it fully engaged the rear door and cleared the display light on the dash of an open-door indication, was non-the-less partially open. I have shown my dealer that I can do this, by just shutting the rear door as opposed to basically slamming it closed. Then when the front door is closed, the open-door light goes out. Incidentally, this same case is true for the passenger door side. I have come to make a special check through the mirrors, to see if there is a straight line along the door frame right at the base of the window. This tells me whether the door is fully closed. And I have found this on several occasions.

: the contact stated the driver side door will not unlock when trying to exit the vehicle. The dealer can not duplicate the problem.

: the contact stated as the third door on the vehicle was opened from the outside a child's finger was opening the door from the inside. As the pressure of the outside handle was applied the child's finger became lodged inside the interior handle and sustained a one inch cut to the finger. The laceration was completely to the bone and required immediate surgery. The manufacturer was contacted......the contacted notified the dealer three times about the problem. However, dealer had not offered to put a different handle in the car.

2004 Ford F-150 supercab; the rear driver door can be in the 1/2 latched position and the front door can engage 100% and the open door light will go out, yet the doors are not fully secure. This was reported to dealer who stated that the vehicle was in specification; also reported to Ford who stated to take the truck to dealer for inspection of this problem.

Dear sir/madam I own a 2004 F150 super cab pickup truck with 4 doors, I am having a problem with the door ajar light. When the rear door is ajar the front door will latch to the rear door, which satisfies the door ajar safety light, but the front and rear door are not safely latched. I am a large man so my seat is as far back as it could go and the back is slightly reclined, when I get in and out of the vehicle my shoulder hits the rear door handle that protrudes into the drivers seat and at times will slightly open the door. I won't realize that I am driving with the door unsafely latched and have no idea that the door is ajar until I hit a bump large enough to rattle the door. My question is, is it safe to drive the vehicle with the front and rear doors ajar and in an ahead on collision will this area be compromised, thus would the crumple zone be affected drastically and would the stability of the vehicle be compromised" also is it safe in a side collision? I feel that this is a major safety concern and should be addressed immediately. I took the truck in for service at fullerton Ford in somerville NJ the said that Ford said that this is normal and I called Ford company they said this is normal and that I had no recourse with them. If I would have known that this was inherent to the F150 super cab I would not have purchased this model, I was told the F150 crew cab has this safety device installed thus the safety problem was addressed in this model but not the super cab. Was this safety concern overlooked or knowingly omitted from the design"

While driving on I-70 in Missouri during a rain storm, I was the passenger in the 2000 F-150 that I own when we hydroplaned. While spinning through the median in a counter clockwise manner, my passenger door popped open. It was only by the grace of god, I wasn't killed, as I hung out the door only held in by my seatbelt. As the vehicle continued to spin around, the door slammed shut. We could not understand why that door would fly open. The force of the sudden opening damaged the hinge, door, and front fender. Upon returning home to Pennsylvania, I did some research and discovered others had similar problems. I contacted Ford and they refused to accept any responsibility for the door coming open..."after researching your complaint, we have nothing indicating any known problems that could cause that to happen". I am now almost afraid to drive my truck. Please please please force Ford to recall these vehicles to prevent others from being hurt or killed by failures like this.

2004 - Ford 150 - supercab when the rear doors are closed, unless they are closed very firmly, only the lower latch will engage. The doors appear to be closed and only if you pull on the upper portion will you see a small gap open by the roof line. When the front doors are then closed they also appear to be secure and the "door ajar" indicator does not comes on. Because the front door are secured by the back doors, only the lower latch is now holding both doors which I believe may be an unsafe design.

We recently purchased a 2004 Ford F-150 super crew, my 5 year old daughter was getting into the back seat of the vehicle, and she put her hand into the door jam area where there is what looks like a "scissor" hinge. If the door is not all the way open and a finger gets caught in there the door if pushed open closes the hinge. My daughters top left middle finger was almost completely severed off. She was taken to a local hospital where she received stiches and was referred to a hand surgeon. This hinge should be looked at and possibly redesigned, the only way to remove her finger from the hinge was to close the door slightly.
