This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
My F150 has been stuck 6 hours away (Denver to Lander, WY) for over two months as of Sept 18. What a great way to end a family vacation to Yellowstone.
My catalytic converter is being covered under warranty, but at the moment, ford will not pay for aftermarket parts. Fords warranty (per federal regs – 8years 80k miles) does state that after 30 days it will authorize aftermarket parts but I have been told by the ford warranty department that they have a special program for this catalytic converter problem. This special program does not allow for the purchase of none OEM parts even though my original ford parts failed after four years and 50K miles. Ford will also not provide a written copy of this special program. The newest date for my parts to arrive is Sept 30; after three other dates have already come and gone.
Luckily the dealer has provided me with a loaner car for the time being. Ford will provide a rental vehicle for $20 a day, but that would have cost me $1,340 for the last 67 days; on top of my monthly car payment. I have been a ford guy my hole life with a tempo being my first ford followed by four F150’s. My wife has had a ford ranger followed by the Escape. We have never had any kind of problem like this whit ford. It is very frustrating not having my truck. I do understand that it is a supplier problem but Ford could be handling it better. I think the title of the special program is “ford saves money by inconveniencing customersâ€.

Now my truck has 37000 miles on it, but the cat broke again, no help from FORD this time, so the LH catalytic assembly is $1700 and it didn't even last 13000 miles but because my truck is an 04 its no longer under warranty. Its a good thing I don't drive it much. Time to get rid of my Fords, all 4 of them for something different, customer service was actually kind of rude. I explained that the truck normally sits in a heated garage, that's why it only has 37,000 miles and its 9 years old, they still insisted that its out of warranty due to time...... I guess sitting in a heated garage really taxes their poorly designed product. First cat at 25,000 second at 37000 really?
