I have been a FORD man all my life. I fell in love with my cousins 37 ford V8 emblem at four years of age. i am now 71. I have owned seven new fords and several used ones. Only trouble I've had was when I used synthetic ams oil in 78 tbird. Bad stuff. I bought this 2004 f150 with around 70000 mi.on it and know the previous owner. The growling started within five or six thou. miles of my purchase and only seemed noticeable when turning left. I checked the tires but no sign of any rubbing against body parts. It has continually gotten worse. At first I thought it was an exhaust pipe rumble or vibration. It wasn't too bad for a couple of years and then started getting a little louder and doing it when turning in either direction. In Dec of 2010 it started getting really loud and now grinds and growls fiercely, but only seems to do it when turning. Sounds like it is coming apart sometimes. I had it inspected at my friends shop, to see what the noise was. He is another another true blue ford man. He found the clutches in the rear end are in bad shape, groune up pretty bad. He cleaned it up and changed the oil. Maybe it will get well?? Maybe ford will fix it for free:) I am still driving it and hoping it won't leave me stranded someplace.

Had the brakes replaced all around in June '08 and the Ford mechanic found a leak in the seal, he replaced that and then the truck started having the grinding sound from a dead stop when turning. I took it back and they put in this "super" Graphite lube in the differential. Since then I have not had a problem and have put another 15k on it.

I have a 2004 Ford XLT F-150 Truck. It has a 4.6 engine and 3.55 rear end. I have this loud grinding noise and vibrations coming from my differential when pulling out and turning at the same time. This started at about 18,000 miles I now have 32,000 miles on the truck. The drive shaft was replaced under warranty. I also have bad backlash in the rear end. The dealership told me the oil needs to be replaced in the differential to stop the noise, they said the clutches aren't slipping. I know better now after reading all the other complaints about Ford trucks.

I have found that alot of Ford 4x4 owners are having the same problem I think Ford should do something about it. I am planning on replacing my Hubs this weekend with No help from FORD

At times, I hear a noise coming from the front that sounds like theres gravel stuck in the rim or you're dragging cardboard behind you. I took it to the dealership I bought it from on 05/29/07 and they first replaced the IWE solenoid per TSB issued in reference to the front-end noise. This didnt fix the problem, so I brought it back on 5/31/07 and I was now told that the 4x4 drive is trying to engage while being in 2X4. They replaced the two front vacuum hubs, because they were leaking by. It is now 9/18/08 and the problem is back. Ford says they wont cover it because it is over one year from the time it was replaced. Sounds like it is normal to replace the vacuum hubs yearly with the wonderful breaks. The dealership said that other people are having the same problem. Of course, my call to customer service for full reimbursement was rejected. Ford knows there is a problem and they wont have a recall. Sounds like a future class action lawsuit.

When Im going any speed at times I hear a noise coming from the front that sounds like thees gravel stuck in the rim and you're dragging cardboard behind you. I took it to the dealership I bought it from and was told that the valves are trying to go into low lock 4x4 without being engaged. The dealership said that other people are coming in with the same problem I think there should be a recall if this is a problem, you could lose control from it if it got bad enough.

grinding noise started last month, dealership said it was the front hub that need to be replace. Cost of the front hub was $800 for replacement. F150 only have 43000 miles on it. I think Ford should cover the cost since it only 43000 miles.
