My mother and sister were driving the truck when they heard a very loud noise and then the driver side window fell all the way down. They were unable to lift the window back up. This was the first incident. The second incident happen when I woke up last week on November 9, 2008, went out side my home and noticed that the passenger front window was down. I tried to raise up but it would not move, it appeared that the same thing had happen to this window as the one on the driver side. I took the truck to my mechanic to take a look at it and sure enough the same thing had happen to this window as the driver side window; the regulator assembly had fail which made the window fall down. In both instances I had to replace both parts; I have so far paid about five hundred dollars to fix this defect. I searched the internet and noticed that I am not the only person that has had this problem.

When the window cable breaks (the cable holding the window) the window falls down inside the door. This has happened to three windows on this vehicle in four years. There is no warning signs. The window just falls down. This is a safety issue if there is someone next to the window when it breaks. Something could fly through and hit the person or child. This could also cause sever property damage if this occurred during a rain storm. Personal property could be stolen out of the vehicle when the problem happens. There is no advance warning. You leave the vehicle with all windows and doors shut and locked, then return to the vehicle with a window completely gone. In order to repair the window the complete inside of the door has to be removed. Most of the time the local Ford dealer does not have the part on hand and has to order it. That causes difficulty since there usually is no way to secure the window without the cable. It is difficult to get anything inside the door to prop the window up and it is very unsafe for personal safety and property safety to drive without a window. It usually takes approximately $100 or more for the part and two hours to repair. It would make more sense to have the window lock in a closed position in order to secure personal and valuable items and secure personal safety. Having the windows fall into the inside of the door is a safety issue for children and adults alike not to mention the property damage and expense of valuables lost that could occur. What if the vehicle is stolen when this happens? since it is a factory defect who is responsible. The vehicle owner took precautions and locked the vehicle with all windows shut, then the cable breaks and the window falls down. The vehicle is completely open to all kinds of damage even to the point of stolen completely at fault of the manufacturer.

Arrived home from work and rolled up both the driver and passenger windows. I put up my sunshade, locked the doors, and walked up my driveway, hearing a "thump" behind me. When I turned around, my drivers side window was down. I attempted to roll it up again, and hear a "grinding" noise from the door, with no window movement. After disassembling the door, I found the window regulator is broken and there is cable wrapped all around it. I did some internet searches to see if anyone had information on repairs, and there is a lot of information, as this is a very common failure. Given the loud noise and sudden drop of the window, I'm very glad this didn't occur as I was driving, it could very easily cause an accident.

2004 F-150 crew cab 4-door, 77,000 miles. In the last 2 weeks, starting October 20, 2008, I have had 3 windows fall into the doors of my truck. Windows effected are the rf, rr and lr. The first was the rt front passenger window which fell in the door while traveling on the interstate at 70 mph, at night and during a heavy rain. When I attempted to crack the window for air circulation, I heard a loud bang and the window fell all the way into the door causing me to swerve and nearly miss a vehicle in the next lane. The failure also soaked the interior of the truck and many items in the front seat. I had to continue driving in the rain for several miles to a gas station for a plastic bag because the door panel had to be removed to get the window back up. The rt rear was next followed by the lt rear windows. Each window failed with a loud bank and slid into the door while attempting to roll down the window. All 3 windows are being held in the up position by wedging screw drivers between the door and window. 3 windows in less than 2 weeks! the estimated cost for repair is 1500 dollars which I cannot afford. This poses not only a safety issue but also a security issue. Judging from the frequency of complaints on these window assemblies, Ford needs to take responsibility for replacing, through a recall, these faulty window assemblies.

3 months ago my driver side window fell into the door frame. It was still under warranty so the dealership replaced the window regulator. Last week the same thing happened to the passenger side window and I am no longer covered by warranty. It is apparent that this is a very common issue with 2004 Ford F150's and Ford should step up to the plate and recall these regulators. It is very irresponsible of Ford to require their customers to pay for their faulty engineering. I was not even using the passenger side window when it fell into the door frame.

He tells us it wont happen again Ford has changed the makeup of the part from plastic to metal.$360 repair. Now window has scratch!could have been big safety issue, if traveling on freeway at 70 mph. Drivers side rear window fell to the floor with no warning. This is the third window regulator (only driver door remaining) that I have to replace in 4 months. All have failed in the same manner, where the cable connects to the plastic. It is a bad design, replacement is made from different material. Ford is the only source for the replacement regulator $185 per unit. I contact Ford dealer and he was not very helpful. He was going to provide 25% reduction in cost of $400 on repair.

Front driver side window had broken plastic part a year ago that had to be replaced. This week rear passenger side did the same thing and three days later the front passenger side broke as well. Auto shop says the entire system for each window will have to be replaced.

2004 Ford F150 power window actuator failed for the 4th time. Ford has indicated this to be a problem but has yet to fix/recall. Three separate windows have failed and now one has failed twice. The part is approx. $140 to replace without labor. My F150 has 75,000 miles on it and the first time it happened was at 45N000 miles.

I have had 2 window regulators fail on my vehicle within 2 months. The regulators have been on separated windows but both have been on the drivers side. At any given moment the cable snaps and the window falls down into the door. My first instance was the end of July while on a road trip. Now it is the beginning of October and my rear window dropped into the door frame with 57K miles on my vehicle. I do have an extended warranty; however, why should I pay a deductible everytime a faulty part breaks. Not to mention there are many people that don't have extended warranties. There are several reports of this happening. I have 2 windows left. Should I expect those cable to break at any given moment" should we expect to replace all window regulators every 50K miles" Ford need to recall this faulty part! it is scary and potentially dangerous to have the window fall down all of the sudden when you are driving down the interstate. When the window falls down there is no way to get it back up. Everything in the vehicle starts to blow around and you can't see. I can't imagine what it would be like if it were raining when the regulator cable breaks. I appreciate any help you can provide.

2004 XLT regular cab: Under 14,000 miles on the vehicle and when I go to roll up the window the other day, I hear a pop and it sank back into the door. Another bad window regulator! quoted $380 to fix from the dealer. If you read previous comments on the 2004 F-150 you'll see that this is quite the common problem. And for every post about window problems on this website, how many other people have this problem and don't report it here - 10X as many" 20X as many" this is obviously a widespread problem that Ford Motor Company needs to live up to. The replacement part is exactly the same, so I guess I can expect another replacement soon! and to think that I thought that only getting a standard cab with 2 windows might help me avoid this problem!!! luckily, my incident occurred in fair weather. I can only imagine the safety concerns that I would have had I been in inclement weather.

As I was driving through my neighborhood the passenger side window suddenly fell into the door with a loud thump. Afterwards, the window failed to operate. 2 days later as I was driving on the interstate the driver side window suddenly fell into the door with a loud thump and afterwards failed to operate. This is a failure of 2 windows within 2 days in a catastrophic failure mode. I was not harmed in this specific incidence but this occurrence could be dangerous in poor weather. I do not believe the manufacturer will repair the failure even though this is a common complaint as evidenced by a quick internet search.

My F150 lariat supercrew 4X4 only has 19,000 miles on it and is very well kept. While power rolling my window up, I heard a loud bang, like my truck had been hit. Upon inspection I noted that my driver side front window would not stay up. After contacting my local Ford dealer (advantage Ford) I was informed that it was a faulty window regulator unit and that it was a common problem. I contacted Ford in the desire for them to fix this free of charge (warranty had expired based on years but not miles). They would not do so. The dealership charges $365 to fix the window or you can purchase the part for $150 and do it yourself if you are so inclined. I have found numerous reports of this problem with these trucks online and this part should be recalled by Ford and fixed free of charge.
