I was driving when I heard a loud pop! at that point my driver side window rolled down and couldn't be rolled back up. Ford said they would look at it for $200 and that was just to look at it. I tore into it myself and found the window regulator to be broken. Ford wants to charge me $198 for the whole assembly. This I believe to be rediculous. Also my passenger side window does not want to role up with the passenger side control so that is inopporative. One more thing my cruise control doesn't work half of the time. My major complaint though is the window regulator as this seems to be a major problem with Ford components and even the Ford mechanics I talk to say this is a big problem.

I have had to replace the drivers side window and regulator twice on my F 150 truck. As I was putting the widow up each time I heard a loud screeching noise as it approached the top of the door, then I heard the breaking of glass inside the door, then the window dropped completely down inside the door and it will not come up. This is twice I have had to replace it at a cost of about $400. This occurred on 02-25-2009. The first time was approximately two years ago. I searched the internet and found this is not an uncommon problem with the 2004 F150 FX4. I do not believe I should have to pay $400. Every two years just to roll up my window.

We recently purchased a 2004 Ford F150 supercab. Two of the windows did not roll down properly from that door, but did so from the driver's switch at the time, so I figured it was a problem with the individual switches. Then later the next week, the driver's window and switch began to fail. The window may roll down, but may not roll back up when the switch is pressed. Each door is sporadic with these symptoms. I read on-line at the volume of failures with the Ford windows motors & regulator with this model, and wanted to submit my complaint as well. The windows have not completely quit working, but from what I read, it is just a matter of time.

Driving down road at 70mph, went to open drivers window for ventilation and without warning the window just fell down into the door like a guillotine. I then proceeded to drive 12 miles in 20 degree weather with the window down to a repair shop. Was informed the 2004 Ford F150 power window failure is very common and that it would cost $400 to repair a broken plastic part because the entire unit must be replaced. I googled this issue and the internet is swamped with frustrated owners with have also experienced this particular failure. This is a serious safety issue that Ford is not willing to address.

Ford really needs to take ownership of their window regulators...not only is this the fourth regulator I've replaced in my 2004 F150.....I've also replaced 1 window motor on the rear sliding window. Other friends also have the same issue and it seems Ford window regulator problems are not "car specific" but are "cheaply built" and expensive to purchase for consumers. My next car will be a Toyota.

In the last 6 months there has been two separate incidents where the power window mechanism has broken and caused the window to be inoperable. This however is the fourth time this has happened. Every window power window mechanism "regulator" on my 2004 Ford F150 has broken all within a span of two years. It all started with the driver side rear, then the driver side front, then the passenger side front and now the passenger side rear. Yesterday 01-21-2009 in the middle of the day while driving in the rain. The regulator gave out and the window came sliding all the way down, in the F150 the windows go all the way down into the door so the glass is all the way into the door pocket, there was not a way for me to manually pull the window up and secure it without removing the door panel. I was unable to roll it up at the time of the incident causing water damage to the interior of the vehicle, personal property and my son. My son was in a car seat in the rear till we were able to get home two hours later in the cold & rain. This is absolutely unacceptable and Ford will take no responsibility for these faulty parts. Four window mechanisms in two years on the same vehicle is not just coincidence.

The dealer stated that she would have to replace the window regulator at the cost of $400. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer did not assist. I own a 2004 Ford F-150 super crew lariat: Driver side window broke while at lunch, very loud noise and then window would not roll back up. Had window regulator replaced (under extended warranty) in July of 2008...thought it was only an isolated incident. 6 months later, the same thing happened to the rear passenger window. Repaired for another 100 dollars under warranty. This time window broke while the truck was parked in the driveway. I fear the other 2 windows will break now. I am surprised the glass has not shattered and have been fortunate that I was not on the freeway during either incident. It makes a very loud sound when it breaks. Service guy at Ford suggested I call Ford customer satisfaction. Spoke with rep and she has absolutely no record of this happening to anyone else yet the discussion boards on the web are full of 2004 Ford truck owners with the same issue. I have owned Ford for the last 25 years and have been happy with the quality. But something is obviously wrong with the design or the materials on the window mechanism. It's a $45,000 truck, 84,000 miles and I take perfect care of it. Ford advertisements say it's built Ford tough and I believe them but the windows should not break this easily and only after 4 years.

Right front window on my 2004 supercab F-150 Ford truck fell down and would not go up again (power windows) while driving. This is the second time a power window on this truck has failed. While taking my son to school, the rear passenger window motor made a loud popping/grinding noise, then the window sank down into the door. This happened once before to me (same noises in cold, rainy weather, both times) on my front passenger window. Since it cost me almost $400 for the first window, I replaced the part (the entire regulator) myself this time. There is a little plastic piece that holds the wire in place that seems to have broke. When it did, the regulator got the wire wrapped up around it in a non-fixable condition. This is a major design defect that needs to be remedied. I still have the "bad" part if you need it for investigation.

My pregnant wife of 6 months was driving the 45 mile trip to home after work and her driver's side window popped and dropped. Current temp outside was 30, and snowing. I decided not to tape a bag to cover the hole because if it were to come off while she was driving the truck and blow into her face, it might have caused an accident. I cut a template out of plexiglass instead and placed it in the window channel. This is great because I can use it over and over and it will fit nicely in the passenger window when it breaks. The day we took the truck down to get it fixed it was 13 degrees, and 70 miles later we were at the dealer. $400 later we were out the door with a new replacement that is no different than the old one with a design flaw. I did not know about this re-occurring problem when I bought the truck, and if I did I would have never purchased this Ford F-150. You want a bail-out, sell and stand behind your product before you ask for support from the consumer.

This is the third time one of the windows has fallen into the door of our Ford F150 pickup. The window is paralyzed in the door frame after a regulator snaps and the window crashes into the door. The window will not roll up after this part breaks. Each time this has occurred for us, it has been a different window. It is the regulator in the door for the rolling mechanism that snaps. We also very rarely open our windows because of the hot weather, so that did not cause it. It is Ford using faulty parts on their vehicle. We were not hurt during any of the three occurrences, but this could be a potential danger for people while driving.

At 37K miles and 35 month old, the passenger side window fell out of the track. The dealer replaced the regulator free of charge even though the warranty was up at 36K. At 39K miles, the driver side regulator failed. Dealer ship had been sold and new ownership would not consider helping with the premature failure.

August 2008 while driving on I5 South out of sacramento passenger window F-150 4X4 XLT super cab truck fell with no warning or indication of failure. Incident startled me and caused me to swerve at freeway speeds. Problem determined as faulty window regulator not covered by Ford or under warranty. Problem not repaired as item is expensive for the labor and part. Currently have door panel off window being held up by a wooden stick. Passenger has to be let out of vehicle from outside.

I opened the driver's side front door of my 2004 Ford F-150 with only 27,000 miles on the odometer and I heard a clunk sound in the door. The window was no longer in place and had fallen into the door. Took the door panel off and confirmed that the window regulator had failed prematurely. It should last a whole lot longer than it did. I read online that this is a widespread problem, latent defect in the design, and Ford will not fix it once the vehicle is out of its basic warranty. I need Ford to recall the vehicle to fix this latent defect.
