The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds, the transmission failed to shift without warning. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (tallassee automotive, 1618 gilmer avenue, tallassee, al, 36078) where it was diagnosed that the lead frame wiring harness to the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Output speed sensor (oss) failure (recall: 16N02). I was driving down a city street at approximately 45 mph, when the vehicle suddenly down shifted from fifth gear to first gear and then shifted back into fifth gear after approximately 10-15 seconds. Later that day, I was accelerating from a stop light when the vehicle felt like it had lost power and began to jerk when I pressed the gas. The speedometer stopped working, the info center displayed all dashes, the RPM's increased and the service advanced trac message displayed and the engine light illuminated. I had the codes from the engine light read and it came up as P0720 fault. My vehicle is experiencing all of the signs listed in the recall, but is not included. My truck was manufactured in the dearborn plant within the time frame of the recall dates. I have contacted Ford and the dealership and they could not explain why. I have attached a pdf of the recall.

I have a 2011 F150 with just under 44K miles. Took the truck in for a set of front brakes and was advised that there was a small leak not exactly sure where it was coming from. Within less that a week the engine was not engaging took it back to the dealership they advised that I needed a new transmission as there were no fluids in it. Needless to say I was quite surprised as we had just topped off all the fluids in the past two weeks. Not real sure about this, but I had a new transmission put in picked it up upon leaving the dealership I had another problem the steering seemed a little tight ended up taking I the truck back to the dealership the advised that I replace the electronic power steering assy and program module to vehicle. I wasn't too sure about this so I had the vehicle towed to the dealership that I normally deal with as the current one had terrible customer service and was unwilling to contact Ford on my behalf they said it was coincidence that this was happening. I have not had any problems with the truck in the past it has run perfectly. My guy at my dealership took the truck in and had to put in the power steering assy. This all happened within a period of 3 weeks and I had to pay for a rental car.

I've had transmission problems from the beginning with this vehicle. At first, the transmission would down shift very hard at random times, especially slow speeds. The past few months, after a rain the transmission will run in 5th gear only. Once I drive a few miles, I can turn the vehicle off for a minute and it will usually correct the problem. Last week, I was driving steadily at about 45 mph when the transmission suddenly downshifted to 1st gear! it smoked the rear tires and bounced the rear axles until I shifted into neutral and coasted to a stop. Fortunately there were no cars behind me or it could have easily caused an accident. Once I turned the vehicle off and then restarted it functioned normally. I've taken it to the local dealer a number of times and their solution is always to "reflash" the transmission. This could be serious issue and I'm nervous to drive the vehicle at speed now....

The speedometer begins swinging erratically then the truck automatically downshifts from 6th gear to 1st gear at full highway speed (70 mph) causing the back tires to lock up and skid down the road. Extremely dangerous. Contacted Ford and they said they were aware of the problem and there is actually a recall on this very problem, but not for my truck since it was not within the recall dates by a few months. Took the truck to two different Ford dealerships and they said they don't know what is wrong with it, but could do the work outlined in the recall as long as I paid for it. See attached recall notice from Ford's website- Ford issues safety recall and customer satisfaction program for certain 2011-2012 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles in North America to update powertrain control module software and inspect for certain diagnostic trouble codes Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 202,000 2011-2012 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles for a potential issue with the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame. Under certain conditions, the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear. Depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. This condition could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford is aware of three reports of accidents and no injuries related to this condition.

I stopped to back into a parking spot, but when I put the shift lever into reverse the "R" indication would not illuminate, and reverse would not engage. This caused the check engine light to come on. When I attempted to shift into any other gear, the "prnd" lights would not illuminate. When the truck was put into drive, the gear would engage, but it seemed to be under limited power. When gears a changed, the transmission shifts very hard. If the vehicle is placed in park and turned off, when it is turned back on the gear selection illumination light shows, but once the transmission is placed in reverse, the issue repeats. A recall was done for this exact issue on this year, make, and model of vehicle, but the VIN does not show any active recalls.

Rear sliding glass window defroster stopped working around 90000 miles, Ford dealer says I have to purchase a new rear glass. Transmission downshifts feeling as if someone ran into the rear of the vehicle. Traveling on I-10 at approximately 80 miles an hour went to pass a slower moving vehicle, when I accelerated to pass the transmission down shifted into 3 gear almost causing me to lose control. Transmission has a problem (no notice from Ford) talked to several owners having similar transmission problems.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle independently shifted into first gear from fifth and sixth gear while being operated at 65 mph. All the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer where it was determined that this was a common electrical issue with Ford vehicles. A remedy was not provided. The contact stated the vehicle operated normally until it was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 16V248000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the issue and informed the contact that the dealers were independently owned and nothing could be done. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

Vehicle would not illuminate correct gear when inserting key into the ignition. The vehicle could not be started. After waiting 10 minutes, the P was illuminated in the instrument cluster and the vehicle started as normal. Soon after, the P would not illuminate. The vehicle could not be shifted into drive to move. This happened while driving and the vehicle downshifted to first gear. Took the vehicle to the dealership and they first inform me that the shifter must be replaced. After giving the go ahead, they inform me that the shifter is fine. They need to replace the lead frame in the transmission and the price is $750. My vehicle falls into the timeframe of Ford recall 16S19 but they have told me the VIN does not match. After informing them that this is a safety issue and working with the dealership and Ford service, there is nothing they can do for me. I am on my own to pay for these repairs and hope that it actually fixes the problem. Ford has lost a life long customer.

The trek has had the problem of the drivetrain locking up in a tight turn causing the trk to slide instead of turning a corner. Really dangerous in winter driving or wet conditions. Also the rear drivetrain chatters when starting out from a stop which causes loss of traction in wet or snowy icy conditions. I could go on and on but this is a start. Have had the truck in at least six times with no results and lundgren motors in eveleth, mn told me Ford wasn't going to fix it and I was welcome to take it to another dealer. This happens when vehicle is in 4X4 drive on streets in dirt grass snow blacktop cement.

Transmission may not go into reverse or when the driver pushes the shift lever in the reverse 'R' position and the vehicle's transmission does go in reverse, the 'R' may not illuminate on the dashboard of the F-150. The backup lamp on the rear of the vehicle may not illuminate. This was a previous recall for this year model but I have been told my truck was not affected. Every symptom descrided is exactly what is happening to my vehicle. Any time I put the vehicle in reverse the "R" on the dash does not light up and it takes approx.5-10 seconds for the vehicle to go in to the reverse gear at which time a yellow wrench appears on the dash. The reverse lights do not come on and the reverse camera does not activate. After the wrench appears the transmission will not recognize any gear. I have to shut the truck completely off and restart for drive to function correctly.

As one is coming to a complete stop and even as one slowly comes out of a complete stop it feels like the power pops into the gear. The bump is only felt the moment just before a complete stop and the moment of coming out of complete stop. The popping happens 80% of the time while coming to a complete stop but 100% of the time while accelerating out of a compleate stop. Has not happened at all while driving through the other gears.
