Since October 2015 my steering on my 2012 Ford F150 supercrew 4X4 with 44,000 miles randomly freezes up without warning. This issue occurs mostly after making a left turn. After turning, the steering wheel fails to return to center. Occasionally this issue happens while driving straight, which makes driving very scary as I have to continually work to keep the wheel centered. I did take it to the Ford dealer once when this problem was happening for a few days straight, but by the time they tested it the issue dissappeared.in reviewing the multitude of complaints for this issue, I am shocked that there is no recall issued for dangerous problem.

August 2018- while driving the vehicle the power steering assist light alert appeared and was unable to steer the vehicle. I pulled over and stopped, shut vehicle off and turned it back on and was able to steer. During the next few weeks, this occurred again at various speeds. At times, the power steering would work and the light would disappear. However, I did not have power steering when I took the vehicle in for repair. I took the truck to the Ford dealership - diagnosis code U2011 and U3000. Dealership repaired motor inside steering gear. Total cost for parts and labor was $2333.29. October 2018 - while driving the vehicle on the highway going 65 mph and exiting I lost power steering - assist alert light appeared. Was able to hard break at stop sign, turn off vehicle and turn back on - power steering was working again, November 2018 - the power steering alert light appeared on 3 different times. All going different rates of speed. The most dangerous was highway speeds, exiting highway to turn right at a stop light and lost all power steering. I was able to control vehicle and pull into a parking lot. Contacted dealership - they had the truck for 10 days; could not duplicate issue. Advised to replace tire. Purchased 4 new tires cost over $1000. Today, 11/20/2018 less than 24 hours later while driving the vehicle the power steering light appeared again.

Theory - vehicle manufacturers can simulate or induce failure of various parts/systems through the computer programming systems that run vehicles causing vehicle owners to make unneeded repairs which creates demand for parts and labor throughout the dealership network. My vehicle has had the following issues arise after the warranty expired. 1) dashboard display of gear vehicle is operating in stopped illuminating 2) windshield wiper stays on lowest intermittent setting after wiper is turned off 3) vehicle makes noise for 5-10 seconds following ignition during which brake pedal is soft. 4) sound of grinding/scraping from the front end 5) power steering is stiff during low speed turns my response to these situations were/are as follows: 1) checked the fuses - everything was good there. Several months later the display illuminated and has stayed illuminated ever since. 2) the local dealership recommended replacing a $100 part - I continued to switch the wipers on and off until wipers stayed off. Situation still requires on/off switching sometimes but has improved over time 3) the local dealership recommended replacement of a $400 brake vacuum pump. I continued to wait for brake pedal to firm before operating the vehicle and the situation resolved to normal presently. That is to say there is no problem with the brakes. 4) took the vehicle in for service and incurred a $700+ charge for iwes system. Dealership said the check valves had stuck open and dirt and dust had entered the system requiring replacement of parts 5) this is the latest issue with the vehicle. It only happens when turning after a stop and doesn't happen every day. I suspect it will resolve itself overtime if my theory as stated at the top is correct.

61K miles on truck and when turning at low speeds steering is very difficult. The steering does not return to center unless you assist. The first time it happened it completely startled me as my truck continued to turn. I did a search on my truck and found that this is a common problem with the electronic steering assembly. I contacted my dealer and Ford with no help. I was told no recall. I informed the Ford customer service rep that there have been several accidents because of this issue to no avail. Very disappointed in Ford.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving 35 mph, the front passenger side steering arm separated from the steering box. The front driver's side tire was still in tact; however, the front passenger side tire lost direction due to the detached part. The contact stated that the vehicle swayed from left to right uncontrollably on the roadway. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and then towed to hondru Ford of manheim (300 S main St, manheim, pa 17545, (717) 665-3551). The dealer stated that since the mileage exceeded 160,000, they would not diagnose the vehicle nor contact the manufacturer. The vehicle was towed to a repair facility to be inspected and diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

The power steering stopped providing power assist consistently and it is intermittent. The steering wheel feels sticky and hard to turn. There is no hydraulic system to check fluids on and I believe that there is no serviceable components of this steering system. This vehicle has relativity low mileage (>50K) and driven on paved roads. This was noticed while driving taking a turn and is present on highway and city driving.

While driving at 60 mph on the highway, the electric power steering locked up during a turn. The system locked for less than a second, and then freed up so that I could finish the turn. Luckily the steering did not lock up before or after the turn, so that I could complete the turn and get off the highway. After getting off the highway, I stayed on county roads to reduce speed to 30mph and see if the reduced speed helped. After 30 more minutes of driving the steering was completely locking up when driving straight or turning, and screeching very loudly. The "service advance trac" message showed up, followed by "electric power steering fault" message. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest mechanic, where they said the whole electric power steering needs to be replaced, costing around $2000. I have not gotten the work done yet and hope that there is a recall with the amount of complaints for this same issue. If the steering were to lock up any sooner than it had, there could have been major injury or death.

Pulling out of my drive way the power steering went outwithout any warning. Light came on saying service advance trac. I live on a country road speed limit is 55 mph. I was lucky to get my truck back into my lane before a car coming headed on was upon me. I am lucky I did not have a head crash. Had yruck serviced a cost of $2034.64 to fix the truck only has 40,614 miles on the it. I can not understand why so much. Plus the dealership has does other vehicles with the same problem. They only warranty this fix for two years. Why is this not a recall with so many vehicles with this advance trac.

At first, the electric power steering screeched, the then I got a service message " service advance trac". finally, I got a message of " power steering fault". I suspect the steering rack assembly (epas).

Yesterday as I was making a turn through a busy intersection, my steering wheel suddenly locked up and the alert "service advancetrac" popped up on my dash. I was unable to complete the turn, and a car going nearly 55 mph swerved around me and missed T-boning me by a few feet. Initially, I was just concerned. But after going to the mechanic and finding that my steering control module is faulty (this vehicle only has 62,000 miles on it), and this is a well-known issue in other Ford vehicles and in the F150 as well, I became furious that Ford has not issued a recall when I could have been killed yesterday. If Ford does not make this right, I will never purchase another Ford vehicle, will encourage all my friends/family to never purchase a Ford vehicle, and will use my considerable business and personal network to ensure that they all know that Ford knows about a very significant issue and is refusing to issue a recall for an issue that could lead to the death of its customers. I called the minions at the 1-800 number and they told me they could not help me and that Ford had not issued a recall for this issue and I was on my own. I'll pay the $1500 + labor now. But I'll be back with my attorney if this issue is not addressed to my satisfaction.

The power steering assist totally cut out without warning in the middle of a turn out from a parking lot on to a 6-lane highway. I was not able to complete the turn. The truck shuddered very roughly as the power steering failed. Luckily there were no other cars on the road at the time. If there were, one would have hit me and it would have been bad. I turned the A/C off and my power steering came back. It has not happened again yet. But I am very concerned that it will happen again. I hope that this report, if supported by many more from other owners, may point to a larger problem, if one exists.

Electronic power assisted steering failure-epas is cutting out most of the time causing over steer and under steer conditions due to the amount of force needed to correct on left and right turns. Steering will get difficult to control on turns just like the non power steering vehicles of old. This occurs at startup and with vehicle in motion and ends with park and vehicle shut off. Can supply video footage if requested.
