F-150

  • 103,000 miles
While driving the truck at speeds of 40-60 mph the transmission automatically downshifts to a lower gear (6th to 1st) and the transmission starts shifting gears very erratic then smooths out and shifts back to 6th gear. Very concerning and unsafe especially when on the highway or in heavy traffic situations

While driving the truck at various speeds the transmission will drop down in gears and show a wrench and code P0720. The truck will slow down dramatically with no warning or or brake lights. The code shows output shaft speed sensor. The vehicle does this out of the blue at anytime. At speeds of 30mph and up. We have narrowly avoided several accidents. The truck is to unsafe to drive on highway.

A sudden downshift occurred while driving my 2013 Ford F150 on a four-lane highway at approximately 60 mph January 31,2018. It happened twice that day, and I immediately took it to my local Ford dealer. They said I shouldn't drive it until it was fixed. They still have it as of today, 2/7/2018. My description of what happened exactly matches the description in your documents published 12/25/2017(?). the description reads: "...automatic transmission slipping unexpectedly into first gear, causing the vehicle to slow down suddenly without warning."."the unexpected downshift can also lock up the rear tires, or cause them to skid." All of this happened including the rear wheels locking up, causing a momentary loss of control when it happened. This condition in 2011 and 2012 F-150S resulted in a recall. It is my understanding that you are considering a recall of 2013 F-150S based on more recent complaints. This is a frightening event and should be looked at.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own. The contact's spouse was driving and pulled the vehicle over onto the shoulder. The driver turned off the engine and waited a while. Once the vehicle was restarted, the driver managed to drive home. The contact stated that the service vehicle (wrench icon) illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to produce any failure codes; however, the mechanic stated that a new transmission needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 82,000.

Today while driving 70mph my truck shifted to 1st gear causing the truck to lock the rear tires, swerve from left to right, RPM's to the max rev limit, loss of power, dash cluster went blank, wrench symbol showed up, then wrench symbol was gone with a blank dash cluster. Truck then jumped to 3rd gear, back to 1st, then back up to 5th gear. Pulled over turned of truck, took out key, re-started truck and issue was gone. This has happened multiple times, however, I was at 10-20mph. Once at 55mph shift to 3rd gear, back to 5th, then to 1st, up to 3rd. Every time the truck will end up at 3rd gear. The truck will not shift down to first manually, you must take of in 3rd gear without any power. There was a recall for 2011-2012 Ford F150's. there are multiple complaints all over the internet with these same problems all with years ranging from 2011-2017. O feel this is an ongoing problem with a huge safety concern witb your vehicle going from 70mph down to first gear causing the wheels to lock up and swerve all over the highway. Do people have to die before Ford will recognize this is a problem with many years of the model!!!!! I'm happy my family was not in the truck when this happens. I car pool kids everyday on the highway. Would you feel safe doing this knowing that Ford knows about this issue from past years. Please make these trucks safe!!! I took it to a Ford dealer and they hooked up the computer to my truck, and the computer showed 0 codes found. Every time this happens you turn off the vehicle, re-start it (sometimes you have to do it multiple times) the truck will drive perfect until it decides to act up again.

***ongoing lead frame issue, reflashing your transmission does not work*** yesterday, (2/2/2019), my 2013 F150 with 6R80 transmission suddenly downshifted from 5th gear to 1st gear @ approx. 45mph. This time the guy behind me had to jump a curb to avoid rear ending me, almost hitting a pedestrian. This vehicle had been taken into Ford 2 months ago with same issue, they said nothing is wrong because they could find no code, told me to come back when it's "actually broken". took to independent shop, they performed the reflash per Ford's 16V-248 recall because this truck is exhibiting the exact same issues. After flash, shifting was markedly harsh from 4th to 5th gear. During this incident, I got a large orange wrench warning that went away before I could photo. Pulled into parking lot, transmission stuck in 3rd gear while parked, gauges are blanked out, and airbag symbol is on. Was able to get photos of these this time. Turned vehicle off for approx 2 minutes and restarted, condition was cleared with no residual warning lights, etc. Don't have the money for it, but I'm taking back to independant shop to have lead frame replaced at my own cost. This type of issue is a timebomb that will get someone killed, with so many complaints of this I'm not sure what the hold up is on an extended recall.

While driving at highway speed vehicle will lose power and mph will drop to 0 and will not shift out of first gear. The dash will display a wrench and the cluster will go blank with all dashes. Upon turning vehicle off and back on the dash will clear and the vehicle will drive for a period of time before the issue returns. This is a major safety concern as I had my child in the vehicle when this happened on the highway going 60mph luckily no one was right behind me or I would have for sure been rear ended. I did a code scan and recieve code 0722 which is the molded lead frame inside of the transmission. After doing research I come to find this is a common problem with the 6R80 transmission and there was even a recall on the 2011-2012 vehicles but the 2013 is not included. Through online forums and just common research this issue has affected vehicles all the way through 2014 and still no recall. My truck has 55,000 miles on it and was purchased brand new it is now out of warranty and Ford wants $895 dollars to replace the molded leadframe although this is a known issue affecting thousands of vehicles. It is a scary and dangerous concern that really needs to be addressed asap. I do not believe I should be liable for a defect that is known and specifically such a major issue that can cause a vehicle to lose power wheels lock up at highway speed.

Transmission issue. F-150 shifts from 6th to 1st gear when driving at 60 mph. Speedometer drops to zero for 2-3 seconds along with tachometer spiking. Quickly shift to manual and vehicle recovers. This has happened to me last 3 mornings and am taking to dealer tomorrow. F-150 has 74500 miles on it and have not had any other issues, but this is a big safety concern with some of the other complaints I have read. I'm worried the tires are going to lock up and I'm going to cause an accident if the issue is not repaired. I'm hoping the dealer covers the repair under my extended warranty, but without the codes I'm worried it will be a argument. Please add 2013 F-150's to the recall! I've read the lead frame transmission needs to be replaced.

My vehicle suddenly down shifts into 3rd then 1st gear while traveling. I was traveling at 60 mph when the vehicle suddenly shifted into 3rd then 1st gear. This cased the tires to skid on the roadway, nearly causing me to lose control of the vehicle. I see there was a previous investigation into this very problem, but 2013 year models are not included.

  • 62,000 miles
While driving at a speed of 60mph on the freeway, the transmission slipped out of gear and revved very high. Leaving me stranded in the middle of the freeway. All of a sudden the truck went back into gear, almost causing me to get rear-ended. This happened two other times while driving. Another time while driving, all the gauges went blank. I could not see my speed or any other indicator. After pulling over, I turned my truck off and restarted it with no issues. I now have my truck in the shop, and the list of issues keeps growing. I only have 62,000 miles and already seeing some major issues.

While in motion on the highway and city streets the transmission downshifts from high gear to low gear. This causes the vehicle to dramatically decelerate and over rev the motor. A code does not appear when the event happens. Occasionally a code appears that looks like a wrench. When this code appears the speedometer quits working. The code will not stay on long enough to have it checked out.. I have taken it to the service department. They have done a bump start and changed transmission fluid / filters. It was good for a month then started again.

  • 87,000 miles
The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While operating the vehicle, the check engine indicator illuminated and the transmission erroneously downshifted into third gear, which caused the speed to decrease. After the failure occurred, the transmission only shifted into fifth gear and the vehicle would only accelerate from a standing start in third gear. As a result, the vehicle would stall and the speedometer would not operate. After restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. Bubba ousalet Ford Lincoln (246 N. broadway St, jennings, la) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 87,000. Consumer stated lead frame was replaced it was recalled in 2011,2012, 2013.

Output speed sensor failure causing transmission to get stuck in gear. Occasionally it will shift down in gear as you are accelerating causing a stalling effect to the truck. Has happened several times to my young son while driving on the highway at full speed. Speedomoter will also go completely dead. Usually pulling over cutting off the truck, waiting and restarting will take it out of the 5th or 1st gear it is stuck in. Sometimes this takes several tries. Very unsafe on the side of a busy road! had 2 transmission shops run diagnostics and it is the faulty speed sensor requiring entire lead frame to be replaced. Both shops told me to reach out to Ford before I pay to have it repaired with them. Same problem as previous Ford truck models '11 and '12 that Ford has recalled but Ford will take no liability for this malfunction. Called 2 Ford dealerships that both played dumb to the well documented problem. Called Ford itself and spoke to a csr I presume in another country from the broken english that said only there is no recall...absolutely no help or information from Ford. I am having this repaired on my own dime as it is threatening the life of my son and everyone else on the road. Shame on Ford!
