  • 60,000 miles
My 2013 Ford F-150 ecoboost gets stuck in 1st gear sometimes while trying to move from a stop. It has also skipped 1st and 2nd gear and gotten stuck in 3rd gear and barely able to move more than 5 mph. It has happened from a dead stop as well as while driving 40 plus miles per hour. Typically pulling over and turning the truck off and back on fixes it. I am afraid it will happen again and cause an accident.

F-150

  • 89,900 miles
Truck suddenly drops from 6th gear to 1 St gear and barks the rear tires while traveling at 60mph also the instrument panel goes completely out except for the RPM gauge it also down shifts from 6th to 5th and then will not upshift and only down shifts to 3rd gear also it has stuck in 1st gear when taking iff from a red light. It has done everything while traveling down the highway except for the 1st gear issue that happened from a stoped position when I started to take off. Problem does happen all the time and when you pull over and place the vehicle in park and turn the engine off and restart the engine the problem goes away and then it starts it again took the truck to local dealership and was told it would cost $985 to fix this problem when it is the same problem that was recalled on the previous years truck same problem on the 2011 and 2012 also have read the problem is still accouring on the 2014 models as well

problem #305

Dec 062018

F-150

  • 66,000 miles
The truck was shifting between 5th and 6th gear sporadically while driving 65 miles per hour on the freeway. Then sudden while driving at that same speed it shifted to 1st or 2nd gear locking up the tires. This caused other vehicles to have to slam on their brakes almost causing a pile up. The truck suddenly shifted back to 6th gear and began shifting back and forth again between 5th and 6th gear until I could exit the freeway. Upon exit the vehicle shifted from 4th or 5th gear to 1st gear when exiting locking up the tires again.

problem #304

Dec 072018

F-150

  • 69,750 miles
When putting the truck in drive from a parked position or an idling position the transmission hard shifts to 2nd gear and then hard to 1st and then all the way to 5th. Truck has 69,750 miles. Has happened on two occasions. Fortunately not while on the highway. Have read that this is a common problem. This time is will only go from 1st to 2nd and has finally come up with the wrench service light. Ford needs to fix this known problem before someone seriously gets injured or worse.

problem #302

Dec 052018

F-150

  • 115,000 miles
2013 F150 downshifted from 6th gear to 1st gear while traveling approximately 50 mph. This resulted in the tires locking up as if I had slammed on the brakes. It now continues to shift erratically from 1st to 6th to 3rd. It also gets stuck in 1st gear and then will randomly shift normally and then downshift back to first gear. This has been happening frequently for some time with hard shifting but this is the first time it has dropped from 6th gear to first gear. This is definitely a safety issue and I am finding it difficult to have any nearby Ford dealerships take a look at it within the next two weeks.

problem #301

Nov 182018

F-150

  • 56,000 miles
While accelerating at highway speeds, the throttle suddenly went dead and an orange wrench appeared on the dash. I was able to maneuver the truck to the side of the road and shut it off. When it restarted I was able to drive home. The dealer was not able to find any codes. Dealer would not repair under warranty without a code. Ford referred me back to the dealer. This is unsafe and apparently is a faulty electronic throttle body.

F-150

  • 72,000 miles
The transmission will down shift into a 1st or 2nd gear unexpectedly. This has happened several times while moving at 40 to 50 mph. Also the transmission will up shift and downshift randomly causing the vehicle difficult to control. When this happens the speedometer will jump around and sometimes completely shut off. When the truck is turned of then turned on again the gauges will work again.

problem #297

  • 160,000 miles
This is the 3rd occurrence over the last month. Driving on hwy 90 at 65 miles per hour the truck suddenly downshifted into 1st gear. The rear tires locked up and smoked as I was thrown forward against my seat belt. I narrowly kept control of the vehicle. I shifted the truck into neutral and coasted onto the shoulder. I turned the truck off and restarted the engine. The truck operated normally for about 50 miles. The sudden violent downshift is extremely dangerous and frightening. Ford has recalled 2014 F150's with the same issue. Why have they not recalled the 2013's? someone is going to get killed by this defect. This is a widely reported issue with the 2013 Ford F150. Do something.

Transmission would shift on its own erratically. While travelling in 6th gear at 70 mph it would downshift to 1st locking tires briefly and then back to speed after letting off the pedal. The instrument panel would go blank and the needles would stop working while still moving. It cant be duplicated and does it without warning. It had done it at various speeds once it was in 5th or 6th gear with or without the cruise control on. Several times and it would not even turn the "check engine" light on. Would have a wrench with ok button. Was getting on highway during one occasion and it lost power almost causing a merge collision due to I couldn't accelerate. I limped it off the side off road, shut it down, restarted and then was able to take off again. I just had it repaired and now seems to be working as I have tried many situations nervously awaiting it to fail if it is the fix. The lead frame in transmission was replaced. This was a recall issue for the 2011-2012 models and should be the same for 2013 or any model with this design. It causes very dangerous situations and could be fatal in certain traffic situations. I physically watched cars back off me while travelling 60 mph and my tires must have smoke without brake lights when it shifted down and chirped the tires unexpectedly. Not happy since I only have couple months on these new tires as well. The transmission always seemed to have a hard shift point between 4,5 and 6th gear.

F-150

  • 107,000 miles
Either I start from being stopped and it immediately goes to 3rd or 5th gear or it will drop to a low gear when I'm going highway speed. If I put it in park it fixes problem but is very scary when it happens, especially when going fast or starting from a stop and crossing at an intersection in traffic. This seems to happen 2-3 times a week. No code when brought to the dealer. Once a yellow wrench has game on and whole dash went blank.

problem #291

Nov 152018

F-150

  • 40 miles
Experience an intermittent loss of the transmission output. Depending on vehicle speed at the time of the downshift, an unintended downshift into first gear may occur causing the rear tires to slide or lock up until the vehicle slows. This may result in a loss of vehicle control without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Code P0731 when the code P0731 is set in the powertrain computer, it means that the powertrain computer or PCM is seeing greater than a specified RPM difference between the rotational speed of the input RPM sensor and the transmission output RPM sensor in gear 1.code P0732 when the code P0732 is set in the powertrain computer, it means that the powertrain computer or PCM is seeing a greater than a specified RPM difference between the rotational speed of the input RPM sensor and the transmission output RPM sensor when the vehicle is in 2nd gear.code P0733 when the code P0733 is set in the powertrain computer, it means that the powertrain computer or PCM is seeing a greater than a specified RPM difference between the rotational speed of the input RPM sensor and the transmission output RPM sensor when the vehicle is in 3rd gear.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds, the transmission downshifted into second gear and the vehicle decelerated abruptly. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where a failure code for the transmission load sensor was found. The transmission load sensor was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 120,000.

  • 72,000 miles
My auto transmission down shifts into first gear while driving. It locks up the wheels and is potentially very dangerous. Ford had a recall for 2011 and 2012 F-150's with this exact problem (recall #16S19), but they said it does not apply to my truck.that is wrong and it should apply to my truck because the recall identifies the exact problem. It is the "powertrain control module/transmission software update". it happens randomly and at speeds between 25 and 45 mph.
