F-150 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles
The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. On several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle downshifted and stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to nielson Ford (375 NJ-23, sussex, NJ 07461, (973) 702-8000) multiple times, but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired and continued to downshift and stalled. The vehicle was taken back to nielson Ford where it was diagnosed that the lead frame assembly and sleeves needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and confirmed that there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The contact was advised to contact NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

I was driving at 60 mph and the truck suddenly downshift twice. The second downshift revved the engine very high causing a quick jerk at the fairly high speed. This occurred at approximately 6000 ft on a two lane straight mountain road. Had this occurred a few days earlier when driving on snow and ice, I would have surely lost control and collided head on with the large boulders or huge pine trees. This could have been deadly.

Transmission in the truck started shuddering while driving several times. Also lost power when pulling into traffic. Wrench light came on dash and all gauges zeroed out. Took to vehicle to dealer and they advised was a PO722 trans lead frame issue. The same issue Ford has had with 2011 and 2012 trucks. Paid $800 to have it fixed while owners of 2011 and 2012 Ford are having their same issue fixed for free.

The transmission will stay in 3rd or 5th gear sometimes at a stop. This causes a power loss and no acceleration. The transmission will also "hunt for a gear a low speeds between 1st and 2nd gears. An orange wrench will flash in the info center on the dash when this is happening intermittently. The transmission also downshifted from 6th gear to 1st gear while the cruise control was set at 75 mph. This caused the truck to go into an uncontrolled skid, luckily it did not cause an accident. I cycled the ignition and drove slowly away without incident. The vehicle is currently at the Ford dealership where it was purchased. That dealership acts like they have never heard of the 200,000 plus Ford vehicles that were recalled from 2011-2012 for these exact same symptoms. My 2013 F-150 missed that recall by just a few months. The Ford Motor Company needs to address these problems before someone gets killed.

The 2013 F150 transmission downshifts often and randomly while the vehicle is operating at higher speeds (45 mph +) on the highway and on city streets. Typically the vehicle is movng straight and not turning. The downshift is typically from 6th gear to 3rd gear and more often from 5th gear to 2nd gear. In the latter instance, the rear wheels skid when the pavement is wet. The transmission moves back into the appropriate gear after a couple of seconds. We have been working with Ford to solve this problem for at least two years. Ford has now given up. Ford has replaced the transmission valve body and a communication cable that connects the engine control module to the transmission. Nothing has worked and the F150 continues to downshift. I believe that this is very unsafe and I am worried when my wife drives the truck (often no option) should the rear wheels lock up and send the vehicle into an uncontrollable spin.

Vehicle will randomly shift into random gear while driving at various speeds. Speedometer will drop to 0 and quit functioning and airbag indicator will come on. You have to turn off engine and restart vehicle. This started the day after I bought it used from a Ford dealer. It has occured at 5 times in the last week. These are the same symptoms as recall for 2012 F-150's listed in NHTSA campaign #16V248000. My vehicle was manufactured in same plant that was listed in the recall. Recall should be expanded to include the 2013 and any others that have this equipment installed.

Dining acceleration the truck would sputter in higher RPM then just recently I would be doing 70 mph down the highway and I would get a service light with power reduction which in turn would require me to pull over shut the truck off restart it and try again. I would get back up to speed and it would repeat. Each time only getting about a mile up the road and it would repeat. Took the truck into the dealer as it was still in warranty the first time and they ignored the P2112 code and replaced a totally different sensor.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted into third gear and then to first gear as the engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated had to depress the brake pedal and shift into neutral to control the vehicle as the vehicle was able to coast to the side of the roadway. After turning off and restarting the vehicle after a few minutes, it was able to drive normally. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to john amato Ford (1015 main St, mukwonago, wi 53149, (800) 606-3085) where it was diagnosed with a faulty connector wire harness with diagnostic failure codes: Al3Z, 7G276, and D. the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 82,500.

2013 Ford F-150. Consumer writes in regards to problems with transmission. The consumer stated the dealer advised there was a recall in April of 2013 for the same failure. The vehicle was built in June of 2013 therefore missing the recall. The manufacturer offered the consumer $250 to assist with the repair.

While driving on the highway, the rear axel broke at the weld. We were able to get off the highway safely and to a brake maters. We were told that this should not have happened and that it was a defect in the welding. We had Ford tow it to bell Ford in phoenix and contacted Ford corporate to request an investigation. Ford ignored our claim and closed it out, without even doing an investigation. The service dept at bell Ford provided horrible customer service and did nothing to assist us with our claim either. We had the vehicle towed elsewhere to be fixed, as we could not afford the $2,700 bell Ford wanted to charge us.

'erractic shifting' three times I was driving at 50 to 60 miles per hour and suddenly the erratic shifting (truck down shift with any warning) and the rear tires locked up immediately. (when this happens the speedometer and the RPM is erractic too) it is too dangerous if another car would have come near me would have crashed. These times I had time to put the emergency lights. Turn off the truck and turn it on again, (somethimes you have to do it several times to make the truck work again) and another problem is somethimes the gear not engage, the engine revs but it runs almost nothing) don't feel safe driving this truck.

Initial start off starts in 5th gear 50% of the time. The only way to get it back to 1st is to shut the truck off, this usually takes several ignition cycles to correct the issue. Erratic shifting throughout driving the vehicle 100% of the time. The vehicle shifts between 6th and 4th for no reason during a normal drive on the interstate 75% of operation. Hard down shifting at speeds above 50mph. Often while going down the interstate at over 50mph the truck will shift into 1st or 2nd locking up the tires. The only way to get it out of the lower gear is to shut the car off and turn it on. I have slid sideways on the highway and almost been hit in the back several times. The dealership I purchased the truck from will not even touch the vehicle for less than $115 for a diagnostics fee. They said if it is the tsb13-04-09 as they suspect it will be $1,029 to repair in addition to the diagnostics fee. A local transmission facility has quoted $615 to repair. I have almost wrecked several times and have had to stop the traffic on the interstate at least once a week, most of the time twice a week. This too is dangerous for not only me but the entire interstate as the traffic halts due to the Ford transmission. I have video of the transmission shifting down and up shifting.

Just under 60K miles and truck jumps gear at random from 1st to 5th while coming to a stop or while at a stop and vice vera while accelerating through 4th-5th gears the truck will drop into 1st gear resulting in a temporary loss of control. Had it happen to me 6 times over several weeks until the dealership was able to diagnose and obtain the molded lead frame to replace. Twice while on a city street at a stop sign making an uphill turn, several times while attempting to exit a parking lot. Ford has acknowledged this problem by issuing a recall for 2011-2012 F150S and issuing a tsb for 2013S but will not include 2013S as part of the recall. These recalls include # 16N02 and #12C23. This issue was an expense of nearly $500 to me, fortunately it did not cause an accident and cost a lot more. Ford's response to me was to keep my receipts in case thy add 2013S to the recall list I may then be reimbursed. Unsafe and unfortunate!

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving 60 mph, the transmission malfunctioned. The contact stated that the vehicle switched from sixth gear to first gear at once, which caused the contact to temporarily lose control of the vehicle. The contact was able to regain control of the vehicle. Occasionally, while the vehicle was stationary, it would not accelerate forward. Crown Ford in fayetteville, North Carolina was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that there was no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 37,000.

Transmission down shifts erratically and sometimes will not engage while downshifting. Trying to shift manually while vehicle is moving will not fix the issue. Twice this has happened while entering traffic but both times I was able to pull over, turn the truck off, put the transmission in the park position and restart the truck, fixing the problem. Vehicle is in the shop today for an $800 repair that is not covered by warranty and was told that Ford has issued a bulletin for this but will not assume the cost of the repair.
