On three occasions over the past two weeks, my truck downshifted abruptly and without warning while traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour. The first time it occurred, it must have shifted into first gear because my body and head were stopped from hitting the steering wheel thanks to the seatbelt. On the second and third time the downshifts were hard, but I suspect they were into second or third gear. On all three occasions the speedometer went to 0 mph then bounced up. The tachometer raced to 5,000 to 6,000 rpm (possibly higher). There was a fourth occurrence that wasn't as bad. I was traveling approximately 60 mph when the transmission shifted down to maybe third or fourth gear, then it shifted up, then back down several times. During this fourth time the speedometer dropped to zero and the tachometer was up and down. A wrench symbol popped up on my information center between the tachometer and the speedometer. The transmission temperature gauge went to the lowest reading. In each of these four cases, I turned my hazard lights on, immediately shifted the transmission into neutral, and coasted to the side of the road. I turned off my truck. Then, I cranked it, and it ran fine afterwards - until the next occurrence a week later, then a few days later, and finally twice in the same day. I have parked the truck since the last occurrence (twice in the same day). Thankfully there were no vehicles immediately behind me in any of these four events. If there had been, it would have resulted in wrecks. There would have been no brake lights to warn drivers behind me. My truck went from approximately 60+ mph down to low gearing without warning. I have not taken my truck to a service center, and I am debating what to do. There are recalls for this exact condition in the same model truck up to 2013. My truck was built in the Dearborn, MI, plant that produced the same problem trucks that were recalled just one year earlier.

Transmission cooler line failed while driving at highway speeds. This resulted in a complete loss of transmission fluid resulting in loss of power and drivability on the highway. Also resulted in trailing cars being covered in transmission fluid, obscuring vision. Vehicle engine and exhaust were covered in transmission fluid and smoking heavily indicating potential for fire. Vehicle was driving perfectly until the cooler line failed at a line juncture. Check four-wheel-drive warning light came on a few minutes before total loss of power occurred. Vehicle was inspected by a dealer who stated that the transmission was ruined due to the loss of fluid.

While driving 50mph the transmission downshifted to 2 gear and the rear end locked up and I slid. I was able to shift to neutral and gain control. This has happened twice at that speed and you can feel a jolt like it-??s happening at lower speeds. I believe this is an electrical issue in the transmission as the gear indicator on the dash will flicker between -??D-?? and -??2-??. I have a video of this that can be shared. I have not called Ford yet but there does appear to be a recall on the 2013 F150 models where there is an issue with the lead frame which sounds very similar to what I-??m experiencing. My 2014 has the same transmission 6R80 that-??s used in that truck as well. There was no warning when this happens.

My truck is randomly down shifting on its own at highway speeds sometimes even shifting to reverse and causing the speedometer to not work the truck has around 78000 miles on it and I see there were a lot of trucks recalled for this dangerous problem. When I contacted ford they say mine was not recalled even though it is doing the same thing the other vehicles with the 6r80 transmission is doing.

My vehicle shows a wrench on the dashboard and loses power and will not accelerate. We took it to an auto parts store to have a diagnostic test performed and it shows that the OSS ( Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit) fault. In my 2014, this is inside the transmission. After doing research, I found this was recalled in 2009 to 2013 models. Could this be an issue in my 2014?

Spontaneous downshifting of transmission to first gear has occurred more than once resulting in sudden change in speed, tires screeching, and unsafe driving or difficulty controlling automobile. Fortunately no one was behind me as I would likely have been rear ended. Each time this has happened the motor has been subjected to heavy strain.

2014 F-150 has issues with shifting while driving and losing voltage to the transmission lead frame. Safety issue for driving and changing to incorrect gears. When stationary in park, the truck will not start due to loss of voltage and parking sensor issues. Odometer display shows wrench icon shows while driving. Error codes P0706 and P0707 codes show up while driving. Ford dealership has done diagnostics and has determined the problem is the Transmission Molded Lead Frame Electrical Failure. They have reported that this is a common issue.

Driving on the freeway, speedometer starts randomly sensing different speeds like the output speed sensor is not reading correctly. Transmission then downshifts to the speed that the OSS is reading and downshifts to 1st gear while im driving on the freeway going 65mph. It was so abrupt that it locked the differential and chirped the tires, again all while going freeway speeds in traffic! Could have gotten rear ended or caused an accident. I will be taking to Ford to see what they say but i shouldnt have to pay a dime for manufacturing defect and safety issue.

I was driving down the highway at about 75 miles an hour and the vehicle slipped gears likely down to 1st. The rear wheels locked and the vehicle jolted almost as if I had run into something. After that it carried on normally. There were no indicator lights or errors that popped up. It came completely without warning. I took the vehicle in to a local mechanic. They serviced the transmission but did not find any reason for the vehicle to have dropped gears like that. About three days after getting the vehicle back I was again driving down the highway at about 75 miles an hour, the wrench light came on, my speedometer dropped to zero, my odometer cleared, and my gas/mpg cleared all while the vehicle continued down the highway. The airbag light also illuminated and stayed on but the wrench light turned back off again. I pulled over and restarted the vehicle and everything cleared and the vehicle continued as normal. It drove normally for the rest of my drive as well as my drive home. The next morning it did the same thing. As others have mentioned this is a clear safety issue as instruments are just shutting down as the vehicle moves at a high rate of speed and I have to keep pulling over and restarting the vehicle. I luckily have been in areas of low traffic as all of these issues have occurred but there could have been a number of different outcomes had the vehicle locked up while in a higher traffic area traffic. I do not feel that the vehicle is safe to operate and having just had it serviced at two mechanics and neither finding any major issues to cause these problems, I feel that this is a major safety issue with the vehicle itself.
