  • 110,600 miles
I purchased this vehicle February 2020 from snyder motors-bozeman, and drove it from approximately 107K to 110K miles with no issues. This vehicle first performed this major safety issue on approximately May 10th, 2020. I was attempting to pass a vehicle on the two-lane Montana highway from norris, mt to four corners, mt. I quickly accelerated from 65mph to 80mph and passed them in the left lane during a passable stretch. Just as I had almost finished passing, I noticed the light that indicates my mode of drive (park, neutral, reverse, etc.) flicker very quickly and erratically between the different drive modes. When the light first hit the reverse position, it violently shook the vehicle with me and my two good friends within. I then lost all control of the vehicle's power as if it had shifted itself into neutral. I was then forced to very quickly brake and get back into my lane as I had no power and another vehicle came around a turn in the passing lane and approached towards us. I had to shut the vehicle off briefly to regain control, and then had to get on the highway. The truck then performed the issue again while going up a steep hill despite slowing to 60mph. I have since had the vehicle perform the issue a myriad of times, usually due to hills going 30-40 mph since I've had to avoid highways. Each time, I am sincerely scared for my life and well being. I took it into bozeman Ford from 6/22/20 to 6/29/20 after first taking the vehicle to foster's mastertech and having them replicate the issue and agree it is a safety concern. I was able to replicate the issue with a bozeman Ford tech and he also agreed that it was a scary experience and stated this to a service rep. Ford replaced the molded lead frame, but to no avail as the truck performed the issue again that day. It is now back with bozeman Ford, attached are my documents from the initial service.

My used 2014 F-150, (with 51K miles) I owned for a month, has a 6R80 trans, slipped from 6th gear, into 1st gear while I was doing 65 mph, while I was driving on the N.J. pkwy. It was covered by dealer, turned out to be the "lead body" that needed replacing within the trans. This has been an issue with this trans, with this year and other models. Presently there is a recall for 2015 and higher year models, just not for the "14" model as of yet, this could cause serious accident due to it's, abrupt onset, without any warning, or change in driving to invoke such an action.

We had sold the house and were moving. Truck was parked in front of house with travel trailer attached to hitch. Preparing to drive away, and had no brakes. Checked brake fluid and had none. Took other car to purchase, came back and filled, and brake fluid all drained out. Had to unhook trailer and have vehicle towed. Local dealer replaced master brake cylinder and booster the next day. Spent $719 plus finding accommodations for the night, dealer said there was no recall at that time. Drove nearly 600 miles, and that night we lost power. Andhad to have the truck towed again. This time they said it was a defective throttle body. Had to stay 1 night in a hotel, then 3 more nights in an rv park waiting for parts, and spent $445 in repairs. Our move was delayed several days with all of this, due to a truck that had less than 60,000 miles on it, and has been well maintained. I since inadvertently found out that master cylinder and booster have now been recalled, but I have to physically go to a Ford dealer to request a refund, and was told it could take 6-8 weeks. I was also told that it would not cover the throttle body. I don't understand how our truck that has not given us any problems before could have these two major issues back to back without them being related. All of this has set us back nearly $2000.

While drive at approximately 30-40 mph, the vehicle transmission down shifted from 5th gear to 1st gear, the engine RPM shot up and I had to pull over. The gear numbers on the dash went from displaying all six gear numbers to displaying only 1st and 2nd gear. This happened on a city street.

Truck just hit 100K miles and recently started to down shift at times. The past couple days we tried to drive the car out of my neighborhood which has hills and going up hill the car would not accelerate when we press the gas. We tried pulling over and putting the car in park but that did not help. We had to turn the car off and back on to get the car to start accelerating again. This happened for two days so we took it to the dealership and they are saying it there is an issue with the sensor that controls the power train. The sensor has to be replaced but also the entire box has to be moved to a different part of the truck to prevent the box from overheating and causing this sensor issue. Sounds like a design flaw. One that is costing over $500 to fix.

Issue occurs when starting the truck, putting the truck into drive to leave from where the truck was parked. The truck will sometimes shift into 5th gear as soon as you put it into drive. As you move forward it will not shift down into first, it will stay in 5th gear. If you stop the truck, shift into park, shut the truck off, then restart the truck and put it back into drive it will function properly. It will start out in 1st and then shift as needed depending on the speed you are going. When driving the truck above 40 and then coming to an intersection and slowing down to about 20 miles an hour to make a left hand turn the truck will down shift into 1st gear suddenly (should be running in 3rd gear at this point) and the engine will rev up substantially, once the truck has turned the corner and you step on the gas the truck will then shift back up into the proper gear (3rd gear or so). On occasion when you start the truck and try to drive the truck from a parked position it will act erratic by shifting from 1st to 5th (going less than 5 miles an hour at this point), then down to 3rd even though the truck is only going 5-10 miles an hour. Generally stopping the truck, shutting the truck off and restarting the truck will cause it operate properly. This issue has happened on and off over the past 6 months.

2014 F150 pickup while at speed (first time at 35mph and second at 65mph) on two occasions downshifted into 1st gear, causing speedometer to read 0 and odometer to read ----------. a technician read code P0722 from computer after last incident. The vehicle was manufactured one month after the end date of a recall designated to address this problem, and Ford will not fix this truck under that recall, leaving the expense of the repair to the owner. We do not trust this vehicle to be safe to drive over 40mph as a loss of control at highway speeds due to rear tire lockup could be catastrophic.

I purchased a used 2014 F-150 XLT in June 2019. It's amazing amount of issues this truck has seeing as it's the last of that particular generation. I could deal with most of them, but the big concern is with transmission dropping unexpectedly to a much lower gear.. this was such a concern and safety issue I recall was made by Ford but it only covered up to the 2013 model year. I think the model years of impacted vehicles needs to be re-evaluated and extended. I've owned the truck for 10K mi and it only had 40K mi when the event occurred. I was driving home the night Monday, January 27, 2020 on the same highway, interstate 81, that I have taken many times. The portion of the highway declines and then flattens out near the exit. The speed limit is 65 mph and I begin to coast as the road levels out. On this particular night, I was going about 68 mph and on the downhill portion turning slightly right. The exit was 1/4 mi away. I was in a non-throtlle situation when I felt the truck lurch. As I took a quick look down to the gauges, the truck lurched again and I was able to see the transmission indicator drop from 5th gear to 4th gear. Of course the RPM went up correspondingly. It only stayed in 4th gear for 2 seconds before going back to 6th. I could only imagine how dangerous a drop to 2nd gear or even 1st would be. There is much information on the internet, some correct, some incorrect, and as such numerous ideas are put forth as to the root cause. Some think it's a leaking seal impacting the electrical contact outside the transmission, or a speed sensor issue, or a timing or programming issue, or a transmission valve body issue. I believe the recall involve a reflash on the transmission module to not have the transmission drop gears if the speed sensor fails. Whatever the issue, fort needs to look into extending this beyond the original coverage.

I placed the vehicle in park. I left the vehicle running got out walked up to the gate to open it and the vehicle started moving on its own. This happened twice. The first time my wife was in the front seat and was able to stop the truck. The second time the truck pinned me between the truck and fence post. A friend was able to jump into the truck and get it turned off. The vehicle was stationary on flat ground sitting in open land not on a road.

11/30/19 I was driving down the road at approximately 45 mph and my truck suddenly downshifted. There was a loud bang and the rear wheels locked up and skidded. The vehicle then went back to normal. 2 days later it happened again but not as violently. The truck has around 59K on it. I see there is a recall for this reason on 2013 F150 with 6 speed transmission which is what I have but nothing for the 2014.

When driving down the road transmission will down shift from 6th gear to first gear it did it on the interstate at 70 miles an hour. Did it when it was raining. Was the second time it did it. Take it to the Ford dealership they said they couldn't do anything unless it was showing a code. Did some research there is a recall on Ford F150.for 09-13 but mine has the same transmission as the 2013. More year's should be added to the recall. Thank you
