The transmission shifts erratically in lower gears. The transmission shifts erratically at highway speeds between gears 8,9, and 10. The transmission shifts suddenly into first gear at any speed. When transmission begins to shift erratically at highway speeds it causes sudden loss of power. I bought the truck from the Ford dealership in Franklin North Carolina on [XXX]. It was taken to the dealership on 22, June, 2023 for these transmission issues. It was taken to the Ford dealership again on 19, October, 2023 for the same transmission issues. It was taken to the Ford dealership again this morning on 21, April, 2025 for the same transmission issues. This time the dealership told me they wouldn-??t do anything about it even though it is under warranty. They are referring it back to the third party transmission repair shop that they sent it to the first two times. The owner of the transmission repair shop told me that he doesn-??t know what is wrong with the transmission therefore he doesn-??t know how to fix it. He told me that Ford doesn-??t know what-??s wrong with it and that is the reason they won-??t issue a recall. The Ford dealership AND the transmission repair shop both told me that Ford issued a technical service bulletin on the problem stating there are three steps to attempt the repair. Step 1; update the software in the truck computer system. Step 2; replace the valve body in the transmission. Step 3; replace the transmission. My truck has been through the first two steps but when it came to the third step, the warranty company chose to rebuild the transmission instead of replacing it. F150 transmission randomly disengages during acceleration causing truck to quickly decelerate instead of accelerating. The loss of transmission engagement is for a period of time just when you need the most control. Our problem started approximately a month ago intermittently and has become a daily though unpredictable event. When the transmission does engage it bangs into gear or shifts erratically into different gears not related to application of foot pressure on accelerator. I took our F150 to a Ford dealer ($145 to diagnose) and an independent transmission repair shop and both called out the problem as a CDF clutch failure and that it is a known design defect by Ford that they are ignoring. Worst of all, the only fix is a replacement transmission at a cost of $9K and because the dealer has so many in line of our vehicle they said despite a redesigned transmission being available, they could not actually perform the replacement for about a month. Ford should be accountable for knowing of a design defect that results in high consequence safety risks of its vehicle occupants. This Ford transmission defect introduces a manufacture's defect safety hazard to drivers and because it last up to 30 or more seconds, it needs to be called out by NHTSA to Ford as a real safety issue with high potential negative safety consequences they should proactively address. The first time it happened to my wife it was in a true near miss with my wife turning right and accelerating onto the highway. Another vehicle did not recognize she had lost power and was heading into her flank as her vehicle went lame almost hitting her. Ford should be directed by NSHTA issue a recall. I have also attached Ford Safety Bulletin 24-2436 but note it does not raise this to the safety urgency it needs to have.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to properly shift into gear as needed. The vehicle would downshift to 3rd or 4th gear intermittently. The contact stated that the transmission was shifting roughly, causing the body of the vehicle to shake abnormally. Additionally, the vehicle hesitated before accelerating as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The dealer reprogrammed the TCM; however, the failure persisted. The dealer determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,873.

My transmission started shifting erratically. It would go from 8th to 10th gear down to 1st or 2nd gear then go back to 5th while trying to merge into oncoming traffic. People had to lock up there brakes or swerve around me to avoid a collision. There were no lights on the dash. I had a transmission shop take a look and there were no failure codes for the transmission. I have had to park the truck due to safety concerns and not drive it. This happened on several occasions during that trip.

  • 55,000 miles
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 15 MPH out of the driveway, the vehicle failed to shift to first and second gear. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change, and the contact notified the salesperson of the failure and was informed that the issue was normal. The vehicle was then towed to another Ford dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that 8 out of the 10 clutches were burned, causing the failure of the transmission. On another occasion, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle became stuck on a hill in 7th gear. The contact stated that the failure had become a consistent failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Transmission delay in shifting and or jerking while shifting through gears. Was travelling at highway speeds in 10 gear and my transmission lost power. Could not accelerate at all transmission was non responsive for a couple seconds while showing it was in 1st gear. This happened a couple more times at lower speeds from 7th gear and downshifted automatically to 1st cutting off any power to transmission. I had made a left turn and vehicle stalled from transmission not accelerating at all and hesitated and jerked into 4th gear. Downshifting and upshifting is delayed affecting the driveability of the vehicle. Vehicle only has 63k miles on it no prior transmission issues at all. I took it into Ford dealership and they said heave seen problems like this with this vehicle in the past and right about where my mileage was at too. Ford says I need a new transmission but cannot diagnose what exactly is wrong with the transmission. Their option they gave me was $6700 to open up transmission and replace parts but the price doesn't include parts or a new transmission at $8100. In doing a little research online there appears to be a major concern with Ford/GM over the 10 speed 10r80 transmission I have. I have 3 children and do not trust driving the vehicle as the driveability of vehicle is a safety hazard and believe it's due to Ford knowingly that there are concerns over the transmission and not willing to do anything to fix their engineering issues with the transmission. The highway speed that i explained could have resulted in a crash or worse, someone getting hurt.

We have had our Ford F-150 evaluated at least twice at a Ford Dealer and they have no idea why it shifts into neutral when the vehicle is in drive. It doesn't do it every time. Sometimes it catches and lunges, other times it just revs the engine when trying to accelerate in drive. I have almost been struck on two separate occasions attempting to pull out into traffic and the vehicle shifted back to neutral as I started to pull out (even though it was firmly in drive). This is terribly dangerous!

Initially my transmission was rough (jerky) changing through 1,2,3 and 4. It then on occasion lost engagement as I was driving and happened a couple of times whilst trying to make a left hand turn across oncoming traffic. Finally the transmission went altogether and went into limp mode. I took the truck to the ford dealership and they informed me I needed a new transmission. They replaced the transmission. They replaced the transmission and told me I could come pick it up. Once I picked it up I started to drive home and the transmission liquid started to leak. They had to come pick up the truck on a flatbed and repair it once more. Once receiving the truck back for the second time I drove the truck but noticed a strange noise coming from the engine, so inspected and found the engine coolant to be empty. I was able to fill it up but the ford dealer requested I take it back for them to inspect. When I did they could not find anything wrong. Then on the [XXX] while driving from New Jersey to Baltimore the transmission started to act strange. The transmission lost power in 10th gear, then regained power, followed by a bang in the rear end from the drive shaft and the the rear wheels locked up in 10th Gear at 65mph on the interstate. The wheels then released the transmission overheated up to 240F degrees and oil started leaking from the transmission. While driving on highway at highway speeds the engine shutdown for no reason and I had to take emergency action get the vehicle out of the roadway to safety. Vehicle would not restart and had to be towed to dealer. Subsequently the powertrain control module had to be replaced. On three separate occasions on later dates, while driving on highway the transmission unexpectedly shifted from gear 10 to gear 1 for no apparent reason causing delay and high rpm and rapid deceleration. Only after third time did the transmission warning light activate. A computer check by mechanic showed the 10th gear to have unknown inertia with a drum shifting.

I had repeated issues with sudden downshifts while driving starting around 80,000 miles. By 83,000 miles it was doing it weekly or more frequently. It would shift down to first gear no matter what gear it was in. I would have trouble getting it to shift back even if I stopped and turned it off or tried the manual-??s -??fix-?? of pressing the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time for at least 30 seconds. I paid $2300 to fix a transmission barely past 80,000 miles. Besides the safety issue, the impact on daily life in general is a mess. Ford should have to recall all recent years and fix or repay the customers like me who had to pay Ford to fix their defects.

I was on [XXX] in traffic near Clarksville TN when the transmission failed on my truck and I had no power and had to weave through traffic coasting to get over to the shoulder and out of harms way. Consequently I am currently having the transmission built at a cost of over $6800. I shouldn't have to spend $7000 for a new/rebuilt transmission on a $70,000 truck that I've only had a little over 4 years. My transmission shop says if you get 100,000 miles out of the 10R80 transmission consider yourself lucky, they are rebuilding them practically every day. Please make Ford reimburse anyone who has a failure in this transmission!!!!!!! They are 100% aware they are [XXX]and have done nothing about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! failure of driver side left turbo leaking. Dealership suggests a rebuild of the unit for $3,000 but an independent mechanic suggests the replace the turbo because it has an internal issue that will just cause it to leak again. After researching online this is a common problem with this particular turbo with even a service bulletin. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176843-0001.pdf
