The vehicle was stopped, preparing to make a left-hand turn at a four-way intersection, in Drive with my foot on the brake. I had manually pressed the button to disable the "Auto Start-Stop" feature earlier in this trip, and the light was on indicating that feature was still disabled. While stopped, the vehicle's engine suddenly shut off. On the dashboard, the informational cluster indicated "Auto StartStop Shift to P, then Restart Engine" with the logo for that feature (An "A" in a looped arrow icon) showing below. I shifted to Neutral and restarted the vehicle with no issue - at which time the warning messages went away - and continued the drive without further incident. I have not been able to reproduce the issue, yet. I was in the vehicle with my 1-year-old son in his car seat, preparing to make a left turn across oncoming traffic when the vehicle shut itself off, placing us at considerable potential risk. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, a dealer, etc. as of yet but I will be bringing it to a Ford dealership as soon as I can. I have included an example photo of the same error I saw, taken from an internet forum. This is not my truck, but is the identical warning message to the one I saw.

no accident but could have been disastrous. while driving down highway truck shifted from 10th down to 1st then back to 10th. also having issues with transmission jumping around in gears. 1to 4th back to 2nd up to 5th then rpms winding out before going into gear, or if i try to speed up it just cuts power completely. i dont see my truck under any recalls when i put my vin in which i dont understand. took to ford and they quoted 10,000 for new transmission or 6,000 for some module. warranty is past, just over 100,000 miles on it. paying a $701 truck payment for a truck that's out of commission sitting in my yard. first brand new vehicle ive ever purchased, what a joke. i love the truck but this is bs.

  • 245,000 miles
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, nearly causing the vehicle to stall. The power train warning was illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train), however the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 245,000.

The cam phasers have always made a loud noise at startup. When I had this looked at, dealerships told me it was just a noise and nothing to worry about. Over time, the noise got worse. Recently, the cam phasers malfunctioned so that the truck would not accelerate as usual. It was extremely slow and lacked it's typical power on acceleration. The slow acceleration placed myself, my wife and children, and other drivers at risk when I was unable to accelerate as needed in traffic. Then, the engine also started a very rough idle as if the engine was about to shut down. I was still rolling to a stop when the truck began bouncing due to the rough idle. The biuncing and rough idle can happen even when i am not at a complete stop. I just have to be off the gas. The engine slowing quickly or shutting down in the middle of traffic would pose a danger to myself, my family, and other drivers. Ford put out a customer satisfaction program in 2022 which expired in january 2023. They stated that the cam phaser would make a noise, but would pose no future threat to the functionality of the car. This was false and many ford owners are saying the same. I've called multiple dealerships who say they have tons of f150 owners in line to have their cam phasers replaced and they have to pay almost 5,000 out of pocket for it. Ford refuses to place a Recall on these defective parts that they have known were defective for years. Their satisfaction letter was not sent to me so I, like many others, was unaware of the program. By sending the letter, ford recognized that their part was defective, but refused to claim a recall and misled the public about the true potential for damage and danger caused by these defective parts. if not replaced, these defective parts can continue to deteriorate other components of the engine until it is damaged beyond repair.

????'?????? ?: Vehicle is available for inspection. 1) Transmission: Vehicle consistently shifts aggressively around 4th gear (10 speeds total). Vehicle lurches when going above 3rd, however, it shifts correctly after 5th gear. 2) Acceleration: Vehicle randomly lurches forward or backward, depending on whether or not the vehicle is in Drive or Reverse, almost like you are slamming on the pedal, but without having pressed the pedal. This has only happened a couple of times, but it's very noticeable when it does. 3) Auto Start Stop Module: Vehicle will shut off while stopped or almost at a complete stop and the dashboard will have an error message with the auto start stop symbol and instructions that say to put the vehicle in park and turn the key to the off position and then back on. This has happened with the auto start stop button on the truck being pushed in the OFF position. This has happened in traffic multiple times, and once while reversing. ????'?????? ?: The vehicle turning off randomly or suddenly accelerating poses a large safety issue when driving on any city streets or parking lots. ????'?????? ?: Not as of yet, however, the 10r80 transmission in this truck has already been recalled on similar models and other Ford vehicles. ????'?????? ?: Transmission was already replaced in Jan. 2024 with a new factory ford transmission, but still has the same signs of transmission failure. ????'?????? ?: No lights or messages other than the auto start stop message when the truck turns off.

10 Speen Auto Transmission is shifting very hard from 1-2 or just skips 2 and goes 1-3. It shifted so hard this morning it chirped the tires. Other times it jolts me forward. When trying to accelerate it will not and almost feels like its going to stall. Almost got rear-ended one morning with my son in the truck. It is scheduled to go to dealership in 2 weeks (next opening). No warnings lights yet. Started about a week ago. Only getting worst each morning.

When driving my 2018 f150 home from work I was on the interstate and was on the accelerator pedal and I had let off and when I went to get back on the pedal I noticed the truck was not going I looked down as the dash and the gear ratio was going from 10th gear down to 1st gear and kept bouncing back and fort from 10th to 1st gear until it finally went back into gear I felt as my safety and others around me were at Risk because I was scared that the transmission was going to catch in 1st gear while going highway speeds so I quickly got off at the next exit and the transmission just felt terrible like it didn-??t want to shift and when it did they were extremely laggy and hard shifts and the truck was going right into 10th gear at 20mph shortly after this incident a wrench popped up and multiple other warning lights such as traction control, hill assist etc-?? I have not had the vehicle inspection by a dealership because when I called I was told they were backed up waiting for multiple transmissions for vehicles so they ran a scan on my truck by my vin number and it had the same few codes such as P07F7(gear ratio 10 incorrect) U0253(lost communication with accessory protocol interface, module) and U0140(lost communication with body control module) I was told by the ford dealership that the transmission was going to need to be pulled and possibly a new transmission but nothing was covered under warranty because the truck was just out of warranty so it would have to be out of pocket but I have not even owned the truck a year I feel the the transmission should not be going out on a vehicle with 59k miles.

The entire transmission blew up and went out while my son was driving on the highway. It won't engage in any gears and was completely stranded on the highway. Thankfully he wasn't injured or hit when this happened! This could have killed him!! This year of F-150 has known transmission issues but there are no recalls. It will cost $10K to repair and the value of the vehicle is only $15K! This truck is totaled and undriveable. Now he is stuck unable to go to work and support his fiancé and [XXX] daughter. Again, he is lucky he didn't get killed when this completely blew up while driving at a high rate of speed. Ford needs to do better and issue a recall to fix this now! Now he is paying $650 for a truck he can't drive or fix. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Transmission misses gears, causes truck to rev and then bang into gear. Accelerating onto highways or to pass the vehicle alternately loses power or over revs then the truck jerks around and slams into gear. Accelerating to enter a highway is dangerous because you cant be sure it will continue to accelerate, avoiding other cars is not always possible when the transmission is slipping. We have had it to a shop, we have had the TCM reprogrammed, we have had the transmission valve body replaced, nothing makes it better. There is a light that looks like a wrench that eventually came on after a few weeks of the above. Then the light randomly went off and the transmission acted ok for about 2 weeks, then it came back on and its worse than ever now.

The 10 speed system transmission will jump between gears and will unexpectedly slip into neutral or 1st gears without warning. It is available for inspection. While accelerating, system will intermittently slip into neutral leaving the driver without power. This may only last a few seconds before slamming back into whichever gear it is suppose to be in. Sometimes, system would lose complete acceleration while pulling into traffic. The problem has been reproduced by the Ford dealer with a statement that the only thing they could do is replace the entire transmission. Discussion with Ford customer service stated that they would not be able to assist with repairs and there is no recall for these transmissions. The vehicle or components have not been inspected by the anyone other than a Ford dealer. System fault does come on when the transmission loses gear. This is an ongoing issue and has been occuring for about 6 months. It happens more often when it hasn't been driven for a while or while cold but it will happen anytime of the year. It will also sometimes slip into neutral and you must shut the car off and back on to regain power train ability. A video is available but currently unable to upload it due to MB size restrictions.

Very bad rattle on start up from the cam phasers in the 3.5 Ecoboost. Could cause possible engine failure and most likely advanced engine wear. 10 speed automatic transmission already having rough shifts from 3-5 gear change. Clunks into reverse. These issues have been going on since I've gotten the truck, taken it to 3 different dealers and have had my coverage denied. Please note my vehicle only has 39k miles on it. The fact that ford has not recalled these trucks is truly embarrassing. The 10 speed and the 3.5 Ecoboost are notorious for issues.
