When driving this vehicle at slow speeds when cold there is a groning sound or growling sound coming from front differential. At high speed it gets lowder but is less noticeable because of tires. When coming to stoplights or stop sign slowing down considerably alot of moaning, groning noise comes from left side. The vehicle will then have a slight pull to the right. Its been at dealership twice second time still there as they can't seem to duplicate the issue but will not drain the front end to see how much metal in oil. I have videos of the noise and there our several complaints on the ford forum with YouTube videos of exact noise. I see that 2020-2022 has issued a recall because of defective pinion. I think the recall should take into the effect 2018 on as they are the same differential. As a mechanic for 35 years from ford retired I believe the issue is either 1 the bearing race is not seated and when cold you hear the moaning groning because the bearing race is spinning in the aluminum housing or the pinon bearing set are pitted for some reason. You can feel a slight vibration under the floor board when it's doing it which leads me to believe if the bearing locks up the front driveshaft will go through transfer case and vehicle will end up out of control. Thank you

Transmission shifting erratically with symptoms of lunging, missing gears, not engaging reverse, downshifting hard, and downshifting while accelerating. Symptoms worse between 3rd and 6th gear and almost not drivable right after starting on a cold morning (20deg F or less). Ford has reprogrammed ECU but it seems worse and has developed clunking noise somewhere in driveshaft or rear differential.

The truck was purchased used in October 2022 with 82k miles on it, but it appeared to be operating fine from the dealership. Shortly after the purchase, the transmission started hard shifting and also hesitating between shifts. I took the vehicle into a Ford dealership and they test drove it saying it was normal, but also refused to check the PCM to see if the calibration was the most current from Ford. On February 27, 2023, as I was passing a slow moving vehicle on a highway the gears starting acting erratically, jumping from 8th up to 10th, then dropping all power (while showing that it was in 1st gear on the dash), then suddenly hard downshifting in the pass, almost causing me to lose control of the vehicle in the pass. After completing the pass, a "wrench" light came on, so I stopped at the nearest place I could to see what it was saying. My FordPass app said it was a powertrain issue, but then as I restarted the truck, the wrench cleared. I was able to make the rest of the drive home, but with extra clunky and hard shifting. I've now taken the truck in for an inspection, but have been seeing online that this is a common problem, which is wildly unsafe of Ford to have not fixed this.

I was driving on the freeway at about 75 MPH. I wanted to pass another car, so I pressed the accelerator petal to 100% (floored it) and took my foot off the petal immediately because I changed my mind. Roughly 1 to 2 seconds after the inputs, the engine rev'd up to about 3000 rpm, and then changed gears, jerking my truck so violently I could have lost control. I was able to get the behavior to repeat for me, and next time I'm on the freeway I'll try to record it. It's possible I was in cruise control and in eco mode. I have been having many issues with the transmission, including some 'bucking', shuddering, harsh shifts, grinding noises, rattling noises, high-pitch whine, surging revolutions, stuck in gears to name a few.

My F-150 is currently inoperable and unable to be repaired due to TSB 22-2139, which is a fundamental issue with the 10 speed transmission. To summarize the issue, the transmission at certain times will not shift gears while driving, which is a significant safety hazard. My truck has been at a Ford dealership for close to 30 days now, and Ford is unable to provide an ETA on replacing the transmission. There is a current national backorder for the 10 speed transmission and no ETA in resolving it.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced rough idling with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 - Supplement #3 (Cam Phaser Replacement) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

Automatic transmission shifts gears erratically. (1) Much delayed shifting from 1st gear to 3rd gear. (Also occurs at the following gear ratio changes: 3rd to 5th and 5th to 7th.) This stalls the acceleration of the vehicle for sufficient time so that a rear end collision can occur if the driver of vehicle behind is not vigilant. (2) While driving on a freeway at 65mph, the vehicle has lost acceleration while the transmission gear indicator shows random gear hunting (10, 7, 3, 1, 9...) and finally abruptly reengaging in a gear to allow forward power. This behavior results in vehicle speed, while in the high speed freeway lane, slowing from 65 to 30 and then slowly accelerating to a more appropriate speed once a gear reengaged. This condition was conducive to a rear end collision. Ford has no availability dates for either a replacement transmission or internal transmission parts so the vehicle is being diagnosed by an independent transmission repair shop. The vehicle may be inspected there if required. (Dealer has confirmed the odd shifting behavior.) Vehicle warning light occurred subsequent to the above behavior.

I was accelerating onto the interstate and just as I was about to merge onto the right lane the truck just all of sudden without warning shifted out of gear like it had been manually shifted to neutral. The engine of course revved up considerably and I of course lost speed immediately which thank the lord I did not have traffic that I was merging into that could have been really bad. It only happened that one time and has not happened since. I have had some really hard shifting going on but nothing like that.

purchased in 2019 a new 2019 f150-lariat under 60k miles 1st incident 1month after purchase Transmission lunged forward after it was in park almost throwing me off the truck running board while getting out. Ford Dallas service Dept.stated this was normal sent me away. A few months later took it back in the gears were shifting hard while driving and making a loud sound.Service Dept stated they could not hear or see any problem with the transmission-sent me away- Oct 2022 dropped it off transmission went from 10gear to 2nd gear on the highway. nearly got killed. 3 months later I received a call truck was ready. After driving off AGAIN transmission fluid was leaking on the exhaust and causing bad smoke on the highway the gears Again started to shift from 10gear to 2nd and 1st gear had to pull over off the highway. Dropped it off again at the nearest Ford which this time it stayed for another month and they stated it exhaust was cleaned up and they could not find a issue wrong with the transmission. I drove off AGAIN the transmission started leaking causing smoke while driving, Dropping gears on the highway and hitting hard. I NEARLY GOT killed on the highway because of transmission shifting down the way it is and smoke. As of today My truck is sitting in the driveway unable to drive due to faulty transmission. I will not put my family in this unsafe vehicle that Ford could do nothing to fix.

When driving normal conditions from a stop to accelerate the truck completely loses power to drive and gears shift super hard in a jerking motion. When trying to accelerate onto highway from stop sign it will go to 15mph then the engine will rev and gear goes to 1 and then back to gear I was originally in but the whole time the truck does not accelerate in speed which pulling out onto highway can cause me to get rear ended as the highway I pull onto from my street is 2 lane 55mph highway. It does this at all speeds and now reverse only work when it is cold. I have videos there are to big to upload on this application form

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted to first gear. The contact stated that the transmission was slipping. The contact stated that the gear shifter was stuck. Additionally, the contact stated that the transmission skipped first gear and shifted straight to third gear, and then shifted to tenth gear. The service wrench symbol was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer to be diagnosed and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced; the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The transmission will not reverse when cold. It goes into gear and moves less than a foot, then stops like it is in park. After switching between Drive and Reverse several times it functions normally. I was stuck blocking 2 lanes of traffic because of this. The transmission also finds a false neutral momentarily during acceleration. This has almost caused me several accidents while merging or pulling out onto traffic. Dealer could not reproduce when truck was warmed up. No warning lights illuminated. This is dangerous.

The 10 speed transition is overall very clunky and does not shift smoothly. Recently when driving up a slight incline around a turn, the truck abruptly downshifted due to the incline. I was only doing 25 mph but the road was slippery and the abrupt rough downshift caused the rear wheels to lose traction and truck rear end slide. This was very alarming as I did not expect such a forceful rough downshift. Had another vehicle been coming in the other lane, the rear end of my truck may have hit them. I have experienced this more than once, despite being very gentle on the accelerator so as not to force a hard downshift. Also, when shifting into reverse, the transmission takes very long to finally get into reverse. Need to be very careful not to pull in front of another vehicle before backing up because the transmission takes so long to get into reverse. If I step on the gas before reverse is found, then when the transmission gets into reverse with the accelerator pressed, the truck lurches backwards. I have a 2010 Toyota Sienna with a 6 speed transmission with almost 300,000 miles. It still shifts extremely smoothly and shifts into reverse within 1-2 seconds. It's night and day compared to the F150 10 speed transmission. In poor road conditions, I don't feel comfortable and always in control with this transmission. There are no error codes so I have not asked the Ford dealer to investigate. I also see many Ford owners having the same issues with no resolution coming from Ford.

2019 F150 with 65,000 miles on it, started having issues shifting gears. Was accelerating on the Freeway and jumped from 3rd to 8th gear losing all power and making all passengers jerk forward whipping our necks. Also, started to not go into the right gear after starting up in the morning; put the truck into drive and immediately went into 7th gear without releasing the break and the Powertrain Malfunction came on. Restarted the vehicle and put in drive and the transmission went to 4th gear, started driving and the Powertrain Malfunction light cleared and shifted somewhat normally other than hard shifting. Ford Dealership diagnosed the truck and stated that it needs a new Transmission already at 65,000 miles and they will not warranty it since it is already past 60,000 miles. A transmission should not be going out at 65,000 miles.

The 10 speed transmission in the truck slips into neutral during acceleration. I usually loose 2nd or 3rd gear. The engine RPM spikes to 4-5000 and the vehicle coasts to near stop before transmission grabs again. It can create a danger on highway acceleration ramps or at stop signs. It happens intermittently and has been going on for 9 months or so.

The transmission has is constantly slipping in an out of gear along with hard shifts that could potentially cause whiplash with how hard the gears shift and grab. Also truck slips in and out of gear when going on an incline resulting in vehicle no longer able to move and started to row backwards even though the truck said it was in 3rd gear. These transmission issues seem very prevalent with the 10r80 ford 10 speed transmissions. I also experienced a situation where the truck went into a limp mode and had no power and almost lost all ability to steer and stop the truck due to the transmission issue.

Numerous transmission problems of slipping and hard shifting, then stuck in lower gear, can not upshift to higher gears. Have taken for warranty service 3 times now. 1st time caused me to be stranded in remote desert area on one of hottest days of year with wife and child in car with no tow because of COVID/passenger restrictions. Issue is intermittent not constant. But once issue begins it doesn't not go away until taken in for service. Not safe to be driving on road with these issues.
