10 Speed transmission has rough shifting. Clunks, delays, gets stuck in gears and hesitates. Have had the transmission reprogrammed, valve body replaced, and other repairs from ford dealer. Most recently had a new transmission installed and all the same problems after 2000 miles if not worse than the old transmission.

Transmission has Almost failed and is exhibiting jerking, thud sounds, and causing small whip lash affects. Transmission was serviced a year ago and "reprogrammed" the timing. The last month the transmission started experiencing hard shifting, jerking and missing gears. I took it into the dealer again to diagnose and was told I will need a new transmission at 140k miles.

After owning the vehicle for about a year to a year and half transmission developed jerking in 3rd gear occasionally. Took the vehicle to the dealership while under warranty and was advised multiple times that this was normal. Now occasionally there is a sudden reduction in power to the wheels and it almost seems like the vehicle is not shifting at all. This has happened more than once and unfortunately to sporadic to provide an actual date

Automatic transmission malfunctioned. Loss of power between 3 (third) and 4 (forth) gears. When upshifting from 3 to 4 it will experience a loss of power, however it is not consistent and seems to happen randomly. Likewise while downshifting from 4 (forth) to 3 (third) the transmission will clunk and lock-up for a 1/2 sec while the engine rpm tries to match the downshift. This has caused a loss of traction from the rear wheels while decelerating when shifting from 4 to 3. Again it is not consistent and seems to happen randomly. Vehicle has been in for complaint of these issues and dealer noted it is normal and transmission adaptive shift table needed to be reset. However this did not fix the issue. Issue is still present. There are no warning lamps or fault codes. These issues began at about 6,000 miles. I am not at over 25,000 with no resolution. Vehicle details 2019 Ford F150 3.5L EcoBoost 4x4 Lariat with the 10R80 (10 speed) transmission. Other symptoms include transmission shifting harshly and erratically between all gears, causing the vehicle to jerk, lunge, again clunk and hesitate between gears especially 3 and 4.

PowerTrain Malfunction Failed, notification on my vehicle appeared on 4/28/23, although I had been notifying dealer for 3 months prior the safety issue I was experiencing, and nearly got killed on a major interstate, on 4/26/23 my truck stalled as foot pedal would not work. Major safety of semi-trucks and other vehicles on main I30 Interstate were trying to avoid hitting me due to my vehicle abruptly downshifts from 10- to 1st gear. Foot pedal inoperable during that time. Yes, the dealer and Ford on 4/28/23 provided me a rental vehicle after my near collision experience until they figure out what to do, replace transmission or rebuild, unresolved. No the vehicle had no warnings, but did have symptons, which I took to dealer and they ran a diagnostic, and found nothing, they said there are TSBs out there with the downshifting issues, and stalling, jerking of transmission. But they said just wait it out initially, and I had to call Ford Corporate relations and raise the roof, after I nearly got killed by semi trucks from being stuck in a major interstate highway. December 2022 when it began, the dealer kept doing a reset, which seemed to make it worse, then when I told them how unsafe it was they ignored me, until April 26th when I left a voice mail after nearly being killed. I demanded service as I have a warranty and they ignored the symptoms for so long. Multiple people could have been killed on the interstate when my truck stalled, I had to try and coast to the side of interstate as the truck foot pedal did not work after downshifting from 8 to 1.

My 2019 F-150 has the 10-speed transmission which shifts erratically. Driving down the interstate the transmission goes into a "neutral mode" which greatly reduces the speed, thus nearly causing me to be rear-ended. When this happens, I've noticed the gear selection lights on the dash go from 10th gear to 1st gear during the "neutral mode". This has happened on numerous occasions. The last couple of times this has happened a "gear" light will display on the cluster. Shifting between 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9 seems to shift very hard and erratic, sometimes missing gears. The truck is presently at the dealership, but it has been acting up for a month. The dealership was booked and couldn't get it in until 5/1/2023

After purchasing my 2019 Ford F150 equipped with a V8 engine I noticed a loud knocking or tapping noise coming from the engine and a large consumption of oil happening. With no visible leaks I was putting about 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil a month in the engine to keep it filled. Loosing that much oil so fast could cause the engine to experience a catastrophic engine failure at any driving speed causing danger to me, my family, or other drivers on the road. Not to mention the environmental impacts caused by the engine burning so much oil so fast in possibly thousand of trucks across the country. I scheduled service with a Ford dealership. I have taken the truck in twice to have it looked at. Dealership has performed several service bulletins on it but it is still making a knocking and tapping noise and using excess amounts of oil. I have been told by ford dealership that they are aware of the problem and unable to determine if, or when, problem will be able to be fixed. This seems unacceptable knowing the truck is still under factory warranty. I have looked for answers online and found this engine in 2018-2021 Ford F-150 trucks is causing the same problem for a HUGE amount of other Ford truck owners as well.

  • 80,000 miles
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while accelerating from a complete stop to 35 MPH, the vehicle hesitated and jolted while shifting into gear. Additionally, the contact stated that while at a complete stop and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle revved. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel was contaminated and a gasoline additive was added; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The contact stated that when the transmission issues started, the local dealer informed the contact that they were short staffed and could not provide a loaner vehicle. After taking the vehicle to a second dealer, it was found that the transmission needed to be replaced.

I got the truck with 10,00 miles and currently have 47,000 miles. I have been having oil burning issues since the beginning, but it has gotten worse. When I was adding the oil myself before having the dealership do it I was having to add almost 4 qts per 5-6 thousand miles. I have been taking it to the dealership every 1000 miles for oil consumption test. Typically, my oil burns over 1/2 qt per 1000 miles so the dealership claims. I have also claimed about harsh shifting and clunking noises. Most recently I took it in for the harsh shifting of the transmission and 4 wheel drive while the did the oil test. They reflashed the transmission and topped off the oil. The dealership then forgot to put the oil cap back on (I didn't think I had to check their work) the next day after a short drive there was oil all over my engine, electrical systems, battery, suspension and underbody because of the missing cap. They took the truck back and then claimed only a 1/2 qt was gone. The dealership after a few days tells me it is all cleaned and ready to go. I got the truck with oil all over the place. So they keep the truck yet again, few days later I get the truck back and my truck is shifting worse in some ways now than before the flash. Today I had to take the truck in for an engine light about the catalytic converter failing. While they had the truck there it then gave a bunch of codes of powertrain body control all related to lack of power and powertrain failure. displaying a bunch of red lights including a gear wrench on the instrument cluster. These only appeared after the tech scan the first code. The dealership now has my truck yet again and have said it will be at least a few days.

When driving this vehicle at slow speeds when cold there is a groning sound or growling sound coming from front differential. At high speed it gets lowder but is less noticeable because of tires. When coming to stoplights or stop sign slowing down considerably alot of moaning, groning noise comes from left side. The vehicle will then have a slight pull to the right. Its been at dealership twice second time still there as they can't seem to duplicate the issue but will not drain the front end to see how much metal in oil. I have videos of the noise and there our several complaints on the ford forum with YouTube videos of exact noise. I see that 2020-2022 has issued a recall because of defective pinion. I think the recall should take into the effect 2018 on as they are the same differential. As a mechanic for 35 years from ford retired I believe the issue is either 1 the bearing race is not seated and when cold you hear the moaning groning because the bearing race is spinning in the aluminum housing or the pinon bearing set are pitted for some reason. You can feel a slight vibration under the floor board when it's doing it which leads me to believe if the bearing locks up the front driveshaft will go through transfer case and vehicle will end up out of control. Thank you

Transmission shifting erratically with symptoms of lunging, missing gears, not engaging reverse, downshifting hard, and downshifting while accelerating. Symptoms worse between 3rd and 6th gear and almost not drivable right after starting on a cold morning (20deg F or less). Ford has reprogrammed ECU but it seems worse and has developed clunking noise somewhere in driveshaft or rear differential.

The truck was purchased used in October 2022 with 82k miles on it, but it appeared to be operating fine from the dealership. Shortly after the purchase, the transmission started hard shifting and also hesitating between shifts. I took the vehicle into a Ford dealership and they test drove it saying it was normal, but also refused to check the PCM to see if the calibration was the most current from Ford. On February 27, 2023, as I was passing a slow moving vehicle on a highway the gears starting acting erratically, jumping from 8th up to 10th, then dropping all power (while showing that it was in 1st gear on the dash), then suddenly hard downshifting in the pass, almost causing me to lose control of the vehicle in the pass. After completing the pass, a "wrench" light came on, so I stopped at the nearest place I could to see what it was saying. My FordPass app said it was a powertrain issue, but then as I restarted the truck, the wrench cleared. I was able to make the rest of the drive home, but with extra clunky and hard shifting. I've now taken the truck in for an inspection, but have been seeing online that this is a common problem, which is wildly unsafe of Ford to have not fixed this.

I was driving on the freeway at about 75 MPH. I wanted to pass another car, so I pressed the accelerator petal to 100% (floored it) and took my foot off the petal immediately because I changed my mind. Roughly 1 to 2 seconds after the inputs, the engine rev'd up to about 3000 rpm, and then changed gears, jerking my truck so violently I could have lost control. I was able to get the behavior to repeat for me, and next time I'm on the freeway I'll try to record it. It's possible I was in cruise control and in eco mode. I have been having many issues with the transmission, including some 'bucking', shuddering, harsh shifts, grinding noises, rattling noises, high-pitch whine, surging revolutions, stuck in gears to name a few.

My F-150 is currently inoperable and unable to be repaired due to TSB 22-2139, which is a fundamental issue with the 10 speed transmission. To summarize the issue, the transmission at certain times will not shift gears while driving, which is a significant safety hazard. My truck has been at a Ford dealership for close to 30 days now, and Ford is unable to provide an ETA on replacing the transmission. There is a current national backorder for the 10 speed transmission and no ETA in resolving it.

Automatic transmission shifts gears erratically. (1) Much delayed shifting from 1st gear to 3rd gear. (Also occurs at the following gear ratio changes: 3rd to 5th and 5th to 7th.) This stalls the acceleration of the vehicle for sufficient time so that a rear end collision can occur if the driver of vehicle behind is not vigilant. (2) While driving on a freeway at 65mph, the vehicle has lost acceleration while the transmission gear indicator shows random gear hunting (10, 7, 3, 1, 9...) and finally abruptly reengaging in a gear to allow forward power. This behavior results in vehicle speed, while in the high speed freeway lane, slowing from 65 to 30 and then slowly accelerating to a more appropriate speed once a gear reengaged. This condition was conducive to a rear end collision. Ford has no availability dates for either a replacement transmission or internal transmission parts so the vehicle is being diagnosed by an independent transmission repair shop. The vehicle may be inspected there if required. (Dealer has confirmed the odd shifting behavior.) Vehicle warning light occurred subsequent to the above behavior.
