Engine went bad at 71,000 miles and has to be replaced.

I drive my truck to and from work and occasionally on road trips. This truck has never been used for anything other that around town transportation and been treated with care. All maintenance records are on hand and has always been serviced according to schedule and at 71,000 miles I am having to put a new engine in it. Of course I am 11,000 miles outside of the warranty and I didn't buy an extended warranty because as a rule I trade every 3 years but unfortunately I paid this truck off and decided to drive it for a while before trading it, what a mistake that was. I do not understand why at 71,000 miles this engine went bad, hell I didn't even make it to the 100,000 miles that they suggest and then change the plugs, I have to change the engine. Ford gave me the price of $16,440.00 to do a complete change out and complete new install, but that is unheard of. Number 1 it does not cost Ford that kind of money to put an engine in my truck and they are offering me out of the goodness of their hear $6500.00 worth of help leaving me with a balance of approximately $9800.00, ridiculous.

I can get a new crate engine and have installed for $12,000 which I still think is high. My beef is with Ford that they don't stand behind their product and charge me the $6500 and they pick up the $9800.00, Warranty should not have a thing to do with it obviously they put out a crappy product and don't want to stand behind it. The dealership offered me $13,000 as is. If I were to go that route they would put a new engine in it for $4000, and put it on there lot and sell it for $48,000.00 and they only would have $17,000 in it. They must think I have lost my mind. I haven't decided what I am going to do. Anybody got any suggestions?
