Bought this focus in 2011 it was a brand new Ford Focus 2012 the for three years this car was in the garage. This car is under miles for the year by 30,000 warranty. Ford now knows everyone who bought this car is screwed. They go National TV to say (only to sound good) that they are going to hep consumers. That's not the case at all. They want to put another faulty transmission in for $611 my cost. Nope this transmission has lasted only a year and three months. A transmission is supposed last a lot longer then the miles I have and I'm under miles. I guess women are not to supposed to know about there car. There fix is let me now charge the consumer $611 and still put a faulty transmission in are you kidding. Flammer Ford in Springhill, Florida. All they care about is the money, they're greedy and they lie. They can drive my car for a week and I can drive theirs and see if that's fun. No more FORDS!!!

I needed a car ASAP. I purchased my vehicle from Columbus Auto Resale, in Columbus Ohio. My mother and I both test drove the car and we both noticed that the transmission wasn’t normal. We spoke with the salesman and he assured us that it was nothing to worry about so throughout my first year I’ve had minor issues with my vehicle. In November 2018 I was notified on Facebook about a recall on my vehicle so I called my local Roush Ford and they told me they weren’t starting until mid December. When I called back I was told that they were going to fix my fuel tank because there was a recall on that as well when I asked about my transmission the main issue I was told that they were starting transmission work in January.

I bought this car in 2016, still owe over $5,000, been in the shop twice for the "clutch" and "clutch motor," neither of which have been properly repaired. In 2018, my car was placed in the shop and had the clutch replaced and the ford company proceeded to repair other obstacles that, such as the rear end seals, and supposedly the cv axle. This year, it was in the shop due to the "tcm" and then the clutch motor. My transmission was only slipping from 2/3 and 3/4, no problems else where. Until I get it back, now my transmission overheats, errors flashing all over my dash, slips in every gear and now I don't even have 3rd gear. Forked out over $400 in one transaction and came out worse than when it went in. Now I am driving my fathers truck just to get to work! Never again will I own another Ford, especially a Ford Focus.

The dual clutch transmission of this car is total junk! It shudders, shifts funny, and makes embarrassing noises at idle. I have been to the Ford dealer since we got the 150k extended mile warranty. Ford knows of this issue and refuses to do anything. I have honestly been back to the dealer 14 times with the same issue. The clutch keeps being replaced, the computer is reprogrammed, and Ford tells me that the car has to re-learn my driving habits. What a joke!!

This car should have fallen under Ohio's lemon law. Sometimes the parts are on back order since this is a well known problem. I have to keep driving this heap of garbage until the parts arrive 6 weeks later. Ford never apologizes or offers a loaner car. They always treat me like I am bothering them. I just love wasting my vacation days for work to sit at the dealership. I was interested in the Focus ST or RS model after I bought this car, but I think I will stick with Chevrolet or Toyota.

BUYER BEWARE!! The 2012 to 2018 dual clutch transmissions on the Focuses are JUNK!!

Frustrated is not the word. I am a full time student, working part time job with a car always in the shop. This 12 Focus has been in the shop at least 5 times in which 4 has had new clutches put in. Finally, I do not have the time to continue to put time into taking the car back to the shop and no new results. I spent money on a lawyer, and he did not get me anywhere. I paid good money for this car and it has given me problems. I want my money back or a different car, not a FORD. Thanks Sincerely, Justin Selleck

In July of 2016 I went to leave work one night and my car would not start at all. I had it towed home and the next day it started but said "hill start assist not available" across the computer screen. It drove fine that whole day and then the next day it wouldn't start at all again. I had it towed to a shop near my house and they told me my starter went. They replaced it and it was still having issues. Then they said I needed a new ignition. They then replaced that and told me my car was all set. I drove halfway to work (I work 40 mins away from my house) and stopped to get gas, guess what? My F#&k&ng car wouldn't start again!! After messing around with it for several minutes I was able to get it started and drove the rest of the way to work. Once I got to work I Googled the "hill start assist not available" message I had seen on the computer and found this extensive recall for the TCM. I brought it to the dealership the next day and they reset it and told me that it is in fact what was causing my issues but the reset did not work and they had to replace it. I was told to continue to do what I was doing in order to get the car to start which was having to disengage the traction control until the back order part was to come in which would be 3-8 wks later because I wasn't considered a high priority. I then left and went to work. That night when I went to leave work the car would not start AT ALL regardless of what I did to it so I had to have it towed to the dealership and get a rental until the part came in a week later because the priority level was bumped up. The TCM has been reset AGAIN on 5/25/17 when they had to replace my clutch for issues such as shuddering, sticking in gears, losing power, and random acceleration. A day after getting the car back after the dealership having it a second time for 8 days it started doing the shuddering and sticking again. I have called the dealership twice now and they have told me that there is a "break in period" and that maybe I should try another dealership. I am outraged about this vehicle! I don't want it anymore

  • Manual transmission
  • 90,000 miles

My son Jesse D while a college student, purchased a used 2012 manual Ford Focus Hatchback in 2013. This car has been NOTHING but problems for him. Several recalls, one of which transmission related, which he promptly went in to get fixed under the recall. Problems came when several more transmission related issues came about after, slipping gears, getting stuck in gears, car not starting due to gear issues. Brought back several times to Bonnell Ford Dealership in Winchester Ma for fixes. With all of these issues, the clutch & parts related became trashed. Problem, they weren't covered under any warranty & in buying a newer car, he didn't buy the Extended warranty. His latest problem in March 2016, was a faulty module which cost him $1,900.00 OUT OF POCKET. A week later, his car wouldn't start !!!! He brought it back to the dealership & they did fix what they termed a "reprogramming' issue w/o charging him. He was so upset he contacted Ford Motor Company, only to be ignored. He kept calling, they continued to state that it was not under warranty, failing to acknowledge that the initial transmission issues were cause for the later problems. That's when I jumped in. He used his entire savings to fix this problem. I contacted Ford Motor Company directly by phone and went up every ladder to whomever would call me back, only to be told, that it 'WASN'T IN THE GUIDELINES'. He was looking for some kind of reimbursement for the repair. GOT $0.00 & BULLSHIT EXCUSES. How about Ford Motor Company thinks of each car owners problem as an 'INDIVIDUAL' problem that might not fall within the Guidelines. After getting to what they claim was the top, the Regional Manager, a Rose, not sure where located in the USA, gave some convoluted excuse that if a recall were to be a problem again within the next 2 years, they would reimburse him afterward. REALLY!!! you are not supposed to pay out of pocket for RECALLS. So I wrote this complaint, will write a letter to FORD MOTOR COMPANY, informing them that the many problems this less than 4 year old vehicle has had are unacceptable & outrageously over the top. NO MORE FORDS in this family. I do hope that they get wind of this review and I will go on social media to let the world know. FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS BAD FOR YOUR WALLET.

Focus ES 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 103,000 miles

The transmission on the 2012 Ford Focus is horrible. We bought the vehicle in August of 2013. The vehicle had around 32000 miles. From the start of owning it, the transmission would shudder, slip, grind on a take off. A couple times the slipping and shuddering almost caused the vehicle to stall. This happened when my wife was crossing a busy highway with our children, almost causing a serious accident.

We called the dealership and were told it was normal, the vehicle just had to "learn the way we drove", and it would go away eventually. It never has. Ford has sent the "updates" for the transmission control module. We took it to the dealership and was told that it was not throwing the right codes for the dealership to pay for the work. Needless to say I was pissed. My wife called Ford and ripped them a new one.

A new bulletin came out and we took it back to the dealership. The TCM was re-flashed and the transmission issues have lessened but not gone away. This past week the transmission began to grind in between 4th and 5th gear. My mechanic told me to take it to a dealership in the hopes the POS might be covered by Ford due to them designing a crappy transmission. Going to cost at least a $1000.00 just to take apart and put together....I am sick of this car and its transmission problems and I am going to fight to the death having to pay this bill

Focus SEL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,000 miles

From the beginning I started having problems with this vehicles unlike any other new car I had ever owned. The dealership kept saying the transmission has to settle with some mileage so I waited and the problems continued. In fact, I once had to pay for rental vehicle because they said they found no issues.

Then, the next time, they fixed it by replacing the clutch for which I paid $100 due to the extended warranty I bought. It needed another clutch but by this time Ford did a recall and it was free and they extended the warranty to 100,000 miles which was the same as my extended warranty I purchased.

I continued to have problems where the steering got really tight and the entire car shut down at 35 mph in a major intersection. Towed it using my extended warranty and thought they fixed it. Same thing occurred 2 more times. Not only was this dangerous and I even had the police called because I was afraid someone would run into my car and it was blocking other vehicles. The steering was so hard and even worse than a vehicle without power steering and all lights on the panel came on. They had me pay for a new battery. They then replaced the alternator. Then there were additional problems.

The car would loose power and I mean go 40 mph on a 65 highway in Chicago so I used my hazards and got off the highway went to Advance auto. They got a code for Electrical circuit issue so I took it to Ford and they said it was an old code and did nothing. After this, I took it back to my regular Ford dealer in my city. They continued to tell me the same thing that this was just a different transmission. My gripe is I paid more for an automatic because I live in a major city and have traffic and if I do not keep one foot on the brake and one on the gas, I roll back into another car.

Secondly, the power loss is almost dangerous as is the steering tightening and car stalling completely while driving. Lastly, when I got on the ramp at around 35 mph to get on the highway 60 mph, it would not go so I gassed it and it went from 2,000 rpms to 7,000 rpms so I had to slam on the brakes so I would not hit another vehicle in front of me. Very scary. Often, the car shudders and vibrates entirely and the dealer checked the tires, brakes, rims, and did an alignment and did not stop this so this must also be related to the transmission. The loss of power may be either a catalytic converter blockage or electrical circuit issue.

Either case, I have gone to the dealer too many times and lost time which I should never have to deal with during the first 3 years of a brand new car. Now, I am scared to drive it and they say it needs a 3rd clutch which is on back-order 12 weeks. My extended warranty will soon run out and then how many more clutches do I need to replace one every 6 months? Ridiculous! Very frustrated and upset and scared to drive my car. I have been using public transportation and rental vehicles because I just do not feel safe in this car. At this point I cannot even trade it in without paying thousands more to make up the difference.

I feel cheated! When I reported these complaints to Ford Motor Co, they seemed nice but not able to fix it with any new solutions and the old solutions just do not work.

Focus 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,902 miles

Since buying this 2012 Ford Focus I haven't felt it ran as well as I would've expected. It has hesitation on hills, rolled backwards at stops, some shifting issues, etc. Recently, I began hearing a noise coming from the front of the car. After much research on the internet and bringing it to my local mechanic, the problem was diagnosed as a bearing issue.

On 7/29/15 I brought it to the dealership I bought it from and was told it really was a transmission problem and they needed to replace my transmission and clutch. Fortunately, they did have a loaner car for me. On 8/14/15 I got the car back and was told the transmission and clutch were replaced, they replaced my front brakes and rotors (I gave permission for this) and they said I did have a bearing issue that they fixed.

I drove the car out of the lot and immediately felt hesitation on the car and it seemed much louder than usual. I drove it around the block and right back and the Service Adviser said its not any louder than usual and its probably due to driving a very quiet SUV for two weeks that it sounds noisy. He and the mechanic took a ride in the car and said it was operating according to what it should be. I was told by the Service Adviser that the new transmission needs breaking in and has to adjust to my driving patterns and I should give it about 500 miles.

I continued to drive it but the loss of power was getting worse and I was almost hit several times trying to get out of parking lots or when going from stop to start at stop signs, lights, etc. The car still rolls backwards and now it could barely get up my small hill on my street. I brought it back on 8/24/15 because of these issues (I also put 400 miles on it since I picked it up back on 8/14) and on the way to drop the car off I began hearing a LOUD grinding when braking that I had not heard before.

This time I get a call from a different Service Advisor and she states that is appears to be working within normal limits. I asked if they test drove it and she said yes. I asked how they could test drive it and not hear the grinding?? As for the hesitation, that tends to happen once the car has been driven for a while so a small jaunt around the block is not going to show them what I am seeing. She agreed to keep the car again overnight and will check it out again tomorrow (which is today). She also said that the clutch/transmission needs to get used to my driving patterns for 1000 miles (not 500 like I was told) and much of this is "normal". I said that I wanted to have someone ride in the car with me when I am told its ready to be picked up. I haven't heard back from them yet but after reading everything I have on the internet, this is likely just the beginning of the issues.

I also called FORD and they opened a case for me which supposedly "expedites resolutions" and they stay in contact with the dealer. During these last few days I thoroughly read my service invoice from the first time and realize they never did put a new clutch in but instead "reset" the clutch, In researching, a clutch reset really only needs about 100 miles to get broken in if driving around town (which is what I have done, too afraid to go on hwy with this car). Stay tuned...

Due to the piece of crap transmission I am returning this vehicle to the lender as a repo!! I owe too much on it to trade it in, or sell it, so returning it to the lender is my only option. I am not going to continue to pay for a vehicle that Ford will not own up to and find a fix. I purchased it used about a year ago and I've had it repaired 3 times in the first year of ownership and it is acting up again. Ford sent me a letter and said they would extend the warranty to 100k miles so with 60k miles on it that means how many times will they "fix" it?

  • 25,787 miles

The transmission doesn't shift into gear quickly. When coming from a stop to go it shudders and gives a kick back. It won't go into gear when getting into a higher speed. It makes a loud noise when getting into a higher speed. When going uphill it doesn't want to give power to get up the hill. When driving and I want to change lanes or go faster it doesn't shift into the higher gear to go. It loses power when shifting. Which has almost gotten me into a car accident with that. When at lower gear it doesn't want to properly shift. It gives me a kick back and to a point I think my engine will fall out. When at lower gear the car occasionally jolts forward when shifting at low gear.

I want my transmission replaced, this is the second time this has been brought in for that issue I am not happy with Ford and would like it properly done. I pay for warranty for a reason
