Fusion 6-cyl

  • 52,000 miles
I was traveling on interstate at 65-70 mph, when my Fusion's RPM's all of a sudden dropped to 1 and would not react to the gas pedal, luckily I was in the slow lane and managed to coast off the interstate. Fortunately for me this was during non-rush hour traffic, otherwise it could have been quite dangerous with not being able to get out of the way of continued interstate traffic. After turning the vehicle off and sitting for a few minutes, I was able to start the engine and continue to my point of destination. I googled the problem and found that the cause is a faulty throttle body. I called the local Ford dealership, where I was advised the part was on a lengthy back order and due to me being just outside my warranty, the hefty repair cost of between $500 and $600 would be my responsibility. This is a known party failure on many Ford and it appears they've even redesigned the part due to the issues. There is currently an open investigation with NHTSA on this issue. Hopefully it will not take something as serious as a fatality for Ford to see they need to have an immediate recall. I have had the incident occur two more times since the original incident date. Once again on interstate at interstate speed and once in city driving, it occurred as I was pulling out from a parking lot, against traffic onto a major city thoroughfare. Again, fortunate for the lighter traffic time and the ability to coast to the center turn lane to turn the vehicle off and wait to restart. The dealer has scheduled to diagnose the vehicle and charge me $95 for what they have already advised me over the phone. As for resolution, I am among the many who are at the mercy of shipping schedules of this necessary, apparently, illusive part.

Second engine/power train failure within 4,000 miles of vehicle 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty expiration (first failure was a total power loss at high way speeds within 1,000 miles of warranty expiration). Vehicle suddenly began jerking, shuttering and hesitating upon first acceleration. Ford evaluated mass flow sensor to be faulty and replaced at $425 cost in addition to $50 rental car. Upon consultation with Ford customer service, no costs were covered or reimbursed. My wife often travels alone with my children, so we purchase new cars specifically to avoid such break downs and maintenance problems. We paid cash for this vehicle, and could buy a new BMW 760il tomorrow free and clear. Instead, we bought a Ford Fusion to show support for the american auto industry. Understand that mechanical failures happen, but very disappointed with Ford customer service for not reimbursing or issuing recalls for these known manufacturer defects occurring on essentially new first owner cars < 40,000 miles. Will never buy a Ford again.

While driving on the highway, vehicle experienced immediate, sudden and complete loss of engine power (engine would not respond to throttle depression and remained at idle) with associated yellow maintenance wrench illuminated on instrument cluster. Driver had to execute a dangerous decelerating 4 lane change to stop vehicle on a limited and narrow shoulder. After restarting vehicle, the light disappeared, and the vehicle was able to be driven before same mechanical failure occurred after 1 mile. Vehicle was driven 10 miles to nearest Ford dealer at slow speeds and back roads. Power loss occurred approximately 8 more times while enroute to dealer. Extremely dangerous and insidious mode of failure without warning. Could have easily resulted in a fatal crash if it had occurred during a highway merge or crossing traffic situation. Conspicuously convenient timing of failure 2 months and 1000 miles after warranty expiration. After dialogue with Ford customer service, Ford did not reimburse or cover any of repair costs.

I was traveling on I-65 at approximately 65 mph in the far left lane when I lost acceleration. The throttle control/drivetrain malfunction light came on and I was rapidly slowing in dense traffic with nowhere to lull off on the left side. I was able to pull off to the right through 3 lanes of traffic as the car shut off. I called my mechanic who advised me to restart it and drive to safety if possible. I done so and the warning light was gone and the car ran normally. I took it to my father's who used a code scanner and found a saved code of P2111. This is the code for tac stuck open. After investigation I found that Ford has numerous faulty throttle body units which require replacement. I believe the sheer volume of these issues are indicative of a bad product which produces a significant safety hazard. I could have stalled and caused a serious accident if I wasn't able to get to the right in time. This also could pose a risk if someone was turning left through traffic.

It first happened on Tuesday September 3, 2013 while driving on a main road returning to my home. The speed was 50 miles per hour and all of a sudden a wrench tool light shines and my car just slows down to 5 miles and then stops. Luckily it was late at night and I was in the right hand lane and could turn into a driveway of a car wash. It was a scary thing and I was all alone. I turned off the car and sat for a minute and then turned it back on. I was able to go 1 mile to my home and park the car. I thought it might be a fluke. I didn't drive it again until Thursday when it occurred on the same street close to the same place. I was almost rear-ended by a car behind me. On Saturday, I was traveling the toll road and going 65 miles per hour trying to get to a bible study when it just slowed and quit. I had numerous cars roaring around me. I stopped the engine and started it again. It did it 3 more times before I got to my location. After my meeting I went directly to my Ford dealer. I had to rent a car from the airport because their service was closing and they couldn't start on it until Monday (today) September 9th. I found out it was the throttle body and that it wasn't covered under my power train warranty. With my senior discount it is costing me $595.84. I have only had this card for 16 months. It had 39K miles on it when I bought it. Now I see this thing has happened to many more cars. When is it going to stop? Ford must do something about this.

This is the second incident where I've been driving and the car started to lose power. The wrench light came on and the car started stuttering. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut the car off and restart. It started a little rough so I turned off the air, and it drove fine. I'm seeing a lot of comments from others that they are having the same problem and it ends up being the throttle. I'm now deciding my next step.

I was driving on the highway when my car starting losing power. The little wrench light and check engine light came on. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut off the car. I restarted the car, but turned off the air conditioning. After driving another 7-8 miles, I turned on the air conditioning and the same thing happened. When I restarted the car, I turned off the air and it drove fine. I took it to a mechanic because the book that came with my vehicle said to have the diagnostics checked, but the mechanic said no code is showing up.

I was driving to work in rush hour traffic with cruise control on doing about 60mph and all of a sudden the car lost power.......engine began to run rough and would not accelerate above an idle (rough idle). There was no response to the throttle; the car would not go faster and could not maintain speed. It only decelerated. I immediately pulled out of traffic to the shoulder and limped to the nearest side street. I turned the car off, checked under the hood, and when I restarted, it ran perfectly fine. A check of the web and contact with the Ford dealer indicated the throttle body was bad. The dealer indicated this was a common problem, that the part has been upgraded twice but my vehicle was not part of a service bulletin/recall. A new throttle body and about $500 later the car is fine its clear may drivers/customers are experiencing this same issue this was dangerous. When the issue happened I was being followed closely by a large truck. I had no warning and the only available option was to immediately pull out of lane and onto the shoulder.. fortunately I was in the extreme right lane and could pull out of traffic without incident - it would have been a serious incident had I been in the center of left lane, or where there was no available shoulder.

While accelerating heard a clunk and lost all power to the transmission and throttle. Throttle light came on, car ran rough. Had to coast to the side of the road. Turned car off and back on. Car ran fine, light went off and I continued home. Now it happened again last week while going 65 on the interstate. Same scenario. It happened again yesterday and twice this morning. Cruise was set the last 3 times, going 68 on the interstate. Last time in addition to the throttle warning light the check engine light came on and stayed on even after restarting. This could have been bad on the interstate, but there wasn't much traffic. It is now at the shop waiting on the verdict.

Shortly after I purchased my 2010 Ford Fusion back in February of this year I noticed when I started my vehicle and hit the 20-25 mph my car hesitates to go into gear and when it does it jerks. I took it into my dealership and at first I was told they found trans codes then I was told that was a miscommunication. I was told it did this because the car was cold. I have never owned a vehicle that did this when it was cold. Upon researching known issues with this vehicle I came across the throttle body issue and am wondering now if that is my issue without the stalling issue. Will continue to go back and forth with the dealership and Ford Motor Company until my issue is taken care of.

Vehicle lost power and would not respond to accelerator, just prior to entering freeway on ramp. Wrench icon appeared on console. Fortunately, no one was following, so was able to pull over to side of road safely. Car began to shake. Turned off car - was able to restart and get home safely. Reviewed symptoms on line - consistent with throttle body issue, which appears to be a frequently reported problem with the Fusion. Took the car to the dealer next day - confirmed it was defective throttle body. Service manager indicated this is a common issue with the Fusion, and they see one or two a month at just this dealer. Part had been back ordered for some time, but luckily had just come in, so vehicle was repaired same day (out of warranty, of course - 3 year old car with 40000 mi). Seems like this is a known problem with potential safety implications that Ford is well aware of - why isn't this the subject of a recall and replacement before this happens to someone at 70 mph?

Driving on highway, traveling at appx 65-70 miles per hour - car started rattling and then slowed down considerably - car did not stall, but pressing on the gas pedal and the car did not accelerate. Was able to safely pull over, turned the car off, tried to drive, but the car wouldn't drive - engine worked fine, but car would not move forward or backward. Yellow wrench light came on. Had car towed to dealership. Was told it needs a new throttle body assembly.

I was traveling down a 2 lane highway (state road, pa) when the car began to rapidly lose acceleration and seemed to stall. The engine jerked excessively, but never turned off. No amount of pressing the accelerator made any difference. I coasted to the side of the road safely. Luckily, no one hit me. Turned engine off and called for roadside assistance. Turned the vehicle on a few minutes later and everything was fine. The yellow wrench light came on when accelerator lost control. Next day, while driving to work, it happened on rt13N de and again I was lucky to be able to quickly get to the emergency lane. Yellow wrench light and no control on accelerator with engine vibrating heavily but does not turn off. Switched off and turned on - everything is fine. Same day evening - returning from work - it happens as I get on the entry ramp to I95 N de. Narrowly missed someone rear ending me. Yellow light, heavy vibration and no acceleration. Turn off and turn on, everything is fine. Being in downtown wilmington - no emergency lane and had to do this right in the middle of the road during rush hour. This sudden loss of power is extremely scary and with 2 children in the back seat - I fear for their safety. Imagine if this is happens on the interstate with a 18 wheeler behind you. Will be taking to dealer first thing in the morning. Vehicle is serviced and maintained only by Ford. No one has touched my vehicle other than Ford authorized dealer and have not missed a single Ford recommended maintenance service.

We were going down the interstate and my car started shaking and died out. This continued 6 more times before we found a valvoline and had them test it on their computer. It gave the code P2111 tac system open. Now the code is gone and the dealer can not fix it unless it displays this code so we have to continue to drive it until the error message shows up again.

On 8/17/13 while driving down the highway at 65 mph, my car went into (limp mode) would no long accelerate, we safely pulled to the side of the road and the car began to shake violently. We put the car in park and shut it off, we restarted the car and it worked fine, the next occurrence occurred 9/1/13, while accelerating up a freeway ramp, all the same symptoms, again the car restarted fine. Third occurrence 9/2/13 while driving 35 mph on the street. It seems it is the throttle body. My car is no longer under warranty, I called the Ford dealership and they are on "back order for the part, " I was also told this part "goes out all the time." I am told it can be up to 1 month for the part to come in! my car is not drivable and is a safety hazard. Luckily, the past three occurrences I was able to pull safely over, but I can not risk, driving it any longer. I am stuck.

  • 52,000 miles
In the past week, my vehicle has "stalled, " for lack of a better word, at moderate to high speeds on three separate occasions. The third time this occurred, I was driving uphill during rush hour on "the cut in the hill, " a stretch of highway in northern Kentucky near cincinnati known for its disproportionately high number of auto accidents. It's a very dangerous place for a vehicle to simply stop at the busiest time of day. Because it was going uphill, the vehicle did not coast to a safer location (or even coast at all) as it had done during previous episodes and I was unable to pull over to the shoulder. I was stuck, broken down, in the middle left lane. I have brought my car into the dealership for this exact issue twice in the past while it was covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty. They claimed they could not replicate the problem or find a code so it was probably just a fluke and not to worry about it. This time, when I brought my car in last Friday 8/30/13, they knew exactly what was wrong with it and had the part to replace it (which was amazing since it's on a national back order because this problem is apparently happening to everyone). My 12 month/12,000 mile certified bumper-to-bumper warranty expired 1,200 miles ago, shortly after the last time I brought it in for service. It took less than an hour for them to call me with a diagnosis. It was a faulty throttle body, just like I had told them, and it cost me almost $600 out-of-pocket to replace it. None of it was covered. Unbelievable. Ford needs to stand behind their product and reimburse me and everyone else with this issue. Unsafe and unfair!

I have spoken to a representative in response to an email sent to your tier1 email crcfmc and am not satisfied with the results.. if this is the wrong department would you please forward this on. While driving, my car lost power. I shut off the engine. After 5 min or so the ignition started so I drove it home. I took it in for service the following a.M. and was told there was a problem with the throttle which had been seen many times before.my warranty had run out a short time before this incident so I was required to pay out-of-pocket. I explained in the tier 1 email crdfmc mentioned above that this seems like a design problem and I feel I shouldn't be responsible for payment. A representative contacted me explaining my part had been replaced with one of a new design. I was offered a 50"% refund and advised that in the event of a recall I would get reimbursed the other 50%. I do not find this acceptable. Obviously fmc has a problem with the original throttle hence the necessity for a new design. I should not be responsible for payment and expect to be reimbursed 100%.
