I recently bought a 2010 Ford Fusion with $45000 miles on it. After having owned it for only about 2.5 months I am having problems. While driving down a 4 lane highway at 55 miles per hour it almost stops in the middle of the highway and will not accelerate. It does this with no warning. I am able to pull over to the shoulder and the car begins to shake as I come to a complete stop. Once I turn the car off the wrench light goes out I am able to start it back up. It has happened several more times. Today it happened in the middle of a busy intersection. The Ford dealership in my area when I called said it would be hard to diagnose because the problem is intermittent. By reading the complaints from everyone on the 2010 Ford Fusion this a common problem with this model. The issue seems to be the throttle body. My fear is that someone will slam into my car not realizing it has stopped in the road. I really think it is a safety issue and cannot believe with being such a wide spread problem Ford has not done something to correct it before someone is injured from what appears to be a defective part they have put on their cars.

I was slowing to a stop when my car shuddered and the engine seemed to die. I had a error symbol for the transmission and the engine had no more power. It was stuck in idle now even though I was just doing 35 miles per hour coming to a stop. As I finally braked to a stop the engine was surging, but when I pressed the gas pedal, nothing happened to the engine, it was as if it was just turned on and placed in drive only. I didn't know what to do, I had to get through 2 intersections on idle speed only. I finally pulled over past the intersections and turned my car completely off. I then turned it back on and it was working normally. I took it to the Ford dealership, who told me this is common after a new battery is placed in these Fusion. They noticed my recently purchased used car (purchased about a month before this) had a brand new battery in it. They told me with a new battery, the carbon builds up dramatically and damages the throttle body. So I need to buy a new throttle body and have the cars acceleration computer reprogrammed. And this might happen every time I get a new battery" please investigate this occurrence with other Ford dealerships. I have reading this same story all over the web. Why doesn't Ford do something to correct this issue"

I have a 2010 Fusion. I purchased the car as a certified pre-owned. The car stalled 6 times on the way home last night. The wrench light would go on and there was no throttle response. The car would shake and sputter. I would shut the car off and restart and could proceed for a short distance. The last time it stall on the freeway on ramp. I took it in and let the dealer know what had occurred and they called back indicating it is the throttle body. I am out of manufacturers warranty. The cost is $500. The power train system is covered but the throttle body is not (even though the throttle body causes the power train to go into stall)" at what point will they make the choice that the throttle body that is in these cars are not up to par and a safety hazard and make it a recalled item"

On way home from work, driving for 30 miles, going 50 mph, upon changing lanes, the acceleration died. Wrench light came on. I was able to pull over on the highway. Thankfully, just got through the eight miles of construction with no shoulder and only one lane. If it happened then, I could have caused an accident or at least angered quite a few people on their way home from work by stopping traffic with no way to get around me. As the car was idling, the tach was jumping all over the place, so I put it in park and shut the car off. Waited a few minutes, started the car and was able to drive the additional mile home. Called the dealership to have this checked out. Cannot get in for several days. Holding my breath driving it back and forth to work on major highways until then. My first major disappointment with Ford for not recalling this issue.

The car basically stalled without turning off. The "wrench" light turned on and the car lost all power and the accelerator was unresponsive. The car would only go 2 mph. Once stopped and placed in park, the car idled very rough. Then turned off the car. When re-starting the car it started poorly, but once started the wrench light was off. The car then drove normally. This happened 3X that day. I am lucky I did not get into an accident when I lost all power and had to pull over. Ford will not fix it citing they cannot see the code. I am afraid to drive this car for fear of an accident.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where they advised that the power assist warning light was illuminated and that the power steering needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 53,000.

We were traveling on busy I-80 at approximately 70 M.P.H. due to busy vehicular traffic on the interstate hi-way, I was not using the cruise-control. When we experienced the incident, I had pressed on the gas pedal to maintain speed on an uphill section. On the uphill section, I noticed the vehicle did not accelerate and the instrument panel warning lights started flashing. Even with heavy traffic, I was able to negotiate maneuvering the vehicle to the shoulder. As I was coasting on the shoulder, I shifted the transmission to neutral and tried to start the engine (ev system did not respond either) with no avail. After coming to a complete stop, I shifted the transmission to park, turned-off the climate control system and the and radio. I removed the ignition key and re-installed it and proceeded to start the vehicle, the propulsion system (ev mode) responded. We accelerated on the shoulder in ev mode and we reached speed the gas engine responded and we were back on I-80 and traveling with the traffic flow. This is first time this has occurred with us but researching this phenoma, this event has happened with other Ford Fusion hybrid owners. We are concerned the propulsion system may shut-down in an unsafe environment and create a dangerous situation!

While driving down the road, my engine lost power. Rpms went down, and the accelerator was not responsive. I pulled the car to the side of the road, and put it in park. The engine idled very roughly. I shut off the car, waited 5 seconds and attempted to restart. The engine did restart after some effort by the starter. I drove down the road, and the car behaved normally. This seemingly isolated incident increased in frequency in the following weeks. Sometimes up to 5 times a day. I took my car to an authorized Ford dealer, and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. Cost of replacement is $355. I researched the problem online and noticed that the problem seems to be fairly common among 2010 Ford Fusion owners. The online complaints about Fusion throttle body problems were exactly the same as the symptoms I experienced. The danger lies in the fact that the car basically stalls without warning and must be restarted before normal driving can resume. I have experienced this problem at both highway and city speeds. A stalled engine in the wrong place at the wrong time (middle of an intersection, freeway, while passing, etc.) could have disastrous effects.

I purchased a 2010 Ford Fusion in June and about 3 weeks later, it decelerated and the wrench lit up on the dashboard, while I was driving. Luckily, I was not on the highway or this could have caused a serious accident. I pulled over started the car up and it was fine. A few weeks later, I was 2 blocks from my home and the same thing happened 4 times and continues to randomly happen. The time between instances of this occurring can be minutes, hours, days or weeks apart. I have researched the issue and found hundreds if not thousands of complaints and questions regarding the same issue. I was amazed and appalled that such a common and very dangerous issue has not been addressed with a recall. I did purchase the extended warranty only to find out that the warranty does not cover anything that has to do with what is likely to be causing this issue, which is the throttle body. So until I can afford to get this fixed, I am stuck with a car that I am terrified to drive for fear of causing an accident due to the sudden drop in speed.

I was driving my vehicle on the highway, at approximately 55-60 mph, when I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. The car stalled, and the wrench light came on. I had to pull over and restart the car. This happened again, the next day. The car also began to shake prior to turning the car off. I have read hundreds, if not more, complaints regarding this same issue. My car is currently at a local Ford dealership, where I was advised that it sounded like the "throttle body". the Ford dealer commented that this is a common complaint among the 2010 Fusion. Again, since discovering this problem, I have read hundreds of complaints online in reference to the same issue. I have filed a complaint with Ford, as this part/defect is not covered under my powertrain warranty, even though my vehicle is only two years old, with 58,000 miles. This is a tremendous safety concern, with car losing all ability to accelerate on a busy highway.

Loss of accelerator control. Wrench and check engine light came on. Car entered emergency mode and had to be pulled over and restarted. Died 2 more times at highway speed. Codes on car from check engine light read P2111 and P2112. Dealer completed a throttle body replacement on September 5th, 2012. Common problem with these particular vehicles. Dealer was awesome with the repair and help with situation.

While driving on the highway at about 40 mph the car stalled. All power went off but the electricity stayed on. I rolled to the side and was able to restart after 2-3 tries. The same thing happened when I pulled out of my driveway the same day. Ford rebuilt my transmission and gave me a new throttle body. The car ran roughly the other day the engine light came on but it didn't stall.

While driving my car on the expressway the wrench light turned on followed by the check engine light. The car started reducing speed even though I was pressing the gas. I pulled over to the side and the car started shaking. I had an obd II machine in my car at the time and ran a diagnostic. Check engine code P2111 came up. After researching the code it says it has to do with the throttle body. I also noticed that there are so many discussion forums out there with people who are having the same issue.

On a typical good weather day I was driving around running some errands in the city. Shortly after I started the car going at a city traffic rate of speed...approx 35-40mph...I got approximately 5miles out and the car began to slow down, and a wrench sign appeared. Even with my foot on the accelerator, I could not accelerate, and went to pull off to the side of the rode which I was barely able to do. Once I was fully out of the road, I put the car in park, and before I could shut the car off, it began to shake/ vibrate. I turned the car off and let it sit a couple minutes and I proceeded to start the car up, which it did so like the day I bought it, and the wrench sign went away. I proceeded to my first destination with out any problems. I left my destination and proceeded to my next...I got about 3miles out and the car did, and showed the same thing. So as I decided to just head home which was no more than 10 miles away, the car did the same thing 5 more times and the check engine light came on!!!!! I am now home and afraid to drive anywhere. I got online to see what it could possibly be, and I have not been able to call a mechanic because it is of course a holiday weekend!!!

For several weeks I've been noticing a sputter/vibration when in idle or park. This has only happened intermittently. This morning, while driving to work at approximately 65 mph, car suddenly begins to lose power and surge/vibrate/sputter and I notice the wrench light illuminated. I'm completely unable to accelerate and all I can do is coast to a stop on the shoulder of the (very busy) highway. After shutting the car off and sitting for about 15 minutes I'm able to restart the car with no indication there was ever a problem. The car is running smoothly and wrench light is off. I drove it to the nearest dealer's service department where I left it for inspection. As usual, I had to call the service department for an update and was told that the car was not "acting up" and everything seemed to be fine. They did agree to keep it for another round of inspections for the next day or so but I suspect I'll get the same response. After doing some light research, I've discovered that this is a very common issue with the Fusion but there is no recall or tsb addressing it. I've read post after post after post written by infuriated Fusion owners about this problem. It's time for Ford to own up to this, get a solution, and send out the recall notices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a routine drive home from work, I exited the highway and noticed my rpms falling faster than what I was controlling with the brake. Car was losing speed quickly with no rpms to accelerate it forward to a safe stopping point. Was able to pull into a gas station right off highway, but barely as car was apparently entering limited power mode (determined via owners manual). Upon placing car into car, dashboard wrench light illuminated. I then turned the car off, sat a minute, restarted car and everything was fine. Within the course of the next 10 minutes, the same thing occurred 3 more times and check engine light illuminated. Since the first time, this has occurred a total of 6 times while in motion with risk of causing a wreck due to lack of control to not cause car to stop abruptly in middle of road. Shaking has occurred in 4 of the 6 occurrences and car just putters out until it is shut off. Determination due to codes read is the throttle bottle- an electrical issue. While the limited power mode may be a safety feature, its interaction with the throttle body/idle issues poses a potential threat. The electrical issue that throttle bodies are experiencing within this make/model needs to be recalled and taken care off effectively and efficiently by Ford.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that he purchased the vehicle because one of the benefits stated in the owner's manual was that the vehicle could be towed with four wheels touching the pavement. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed and as a result, destroyed the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the transmission was repaired. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 40,000. Updated 09/26/12 the cosumer stated Ford offered to pay 1/3 the reppairs along with the dealer and thee owner. The consumer traded to the vehicle in since the vehicle was not 4 wheel towable. Leaving from work on Friday afternoon, my 2010 Ford Fusion lost power as I pull out of the parking lot, it slowed down and I lose ability to accelerate. The wrench indicator on the dash is lit which indicates throttle/transmission failure. The engine was vibrating bad and the engine would not rev up. I roll into a parking lot and shut the engine off. I restarted the engine after a minute and it ran fine. This happens two more times in 30 minutes on my way to the dealer. They knew exactly what the problem was they said it is a very common problem with this car. I was luckily to not get rear ended the 3 times in 30 minutes it lost power. The dealer says it is not covered under warranty. That's stupid that Ford would not cover the cost to fix their mechanical defects, this is a design defect as there are many complaints filed for this defect. This should be part of the powertrain warranty. Looks like no 2013 F-150 is in my future plans since I was going the buy one. Do the right thing Ford.
