Vehicle stalled in motion. It happened several times, without any warning or any sign of malfunction.

PE13-003 my 2009-2011 Ford escape, Fusion, mariner and Milan electronic throttle body malfunction 21-Feb-2013 my 2010 Ford Fusion 4 cylinder has malfunctioned twice in two days with sudden power loss and the wrench icon of the gauge cluster. Each time, the engine would drop to 800 RPM and crawl at less then 20 mph. The first incident was near hunt auto as leaving a 4-way stop on Sunday with near 90 degree heat. The second was Monday while on I-65 N near millersville at 68 mph. Scary. Both times I had to pull over, inspect the idle behavior, turn the car off, wait 30 seconds then turn-on again fine with normal behavior. After research, this appears to be under investigation by the NHTSA since Feb 2013 as likely throttle body issues of this engine type. I have sent this info to my local Ford dealer www.huntauto.com. please advise and assist as possible.

Driving on a busy interstate highway when suddenly my car looses power and goes into limp mode. Absolutely no throttle response. Wrench light indicator came on. I pulled over to the side of the road and my car shuttered a bit as I slowed down. Turned the car off and waited a minute before restarting. Restarted sluggishly. Began driving again and no more than 5 minutes later, the same thing happened. This time the check engine light came on. Once again, turned car off, restarted and began driving again. Made it into a local brake/muffler shop where they were kind enough to diagnose the problem for me. Error code P2112 came over with a description about the throttle body actuator being stuck closed. They informed me they've seen this problem many times and it seems to be a common issue. It made sense to me because, leading up to this event, I had been experiencing a lagging throttle. It has happened to me twice more since this initial occurrence.

Driving 55 mph lost power, car shook violently, wrench light turned on, rolled off country road & turned car off. Restarted & drove home 600 miles without incident. Then on December 3, 2012 (2 weeks later) while driving 60 mph on busy highway at rush hour same thing happened...no power, wrench light, violent shaking. Fortunately, was in a busy downtown area with multiple exit ramps. Was able to "roll" off highway, turn off car & restart. Needed to do this several times. Got to destination ( I was shaking more than car) and same thing happened all the way home. Took to dealer who eventually replaced throttle body& haven't had an incident since. I feel this should be a recall problem after reading all the identical stories & expect my $100 deductible returned as I did have the extended warranty.

Like many others, I'm experiencing increasingly frequent acceleration failures (no acceleration with visual cue as well as acceleration surges) consistent with (and identified by dealer as) a malfunctioning etb. Additionally, it seems that the throttle body may be affected by both proximity and stress sensors, as the failures (and generally fairly dramatic drops in speed) tend to occur most frequently at high speeds in heavy traffic. Per Ford's response to the safety investigation (inrl-PE13003-57050P), the manufacturer submits that the resulting fmem mode (always the most severe of "good luck with that" in my vehicle's case) allows for safe maneuvering. While this may be true on the test courses in dearborn, I'd gladly volunteer my vehicle to allow my neighbors to re-evaluate this claim in actual lansing traffic.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph, the advance track warning system illuminated followed by every light on the instrument panel illuminating. The speedometer and the air conditioner also failed. The contact stated that he pulled the vehicle over, disconnected the battery to reset the computer and the vehicle functioned properly after the battery was reconnected. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000.

Basically the car shut down driving down the Pennsylvania turnpike on Friday morning at 65 mph, the car totally shut down. This happened 2 times at 65 mph and one time at about 25 mph while entering the turnpike. I was very lucky that the tractor trailer behind me going about 70 mph, saw something was wrong with my car and had time moved over into the passing or he would have hit my car and killed me. This happen one more time during my morning commute at that speed. I took my car yesterday to the Ford dealer and he repaired the throttle body motor assembly. I have notified Ford customer service case # cas-#[xxx], but I believe this is an immediate life & health safety recall issue. I drive approximately 80 miles per day, 5 days a week. While driving on the highway at normal speeds of 45-60 mph, my Fusion lost all acceleration power. This has happened 3 times in the last week alone. Each time, the wrench warning light appeared on the dashboard so I had to coast to the side of the highway and restart my vehicle before I could return safely to the road. During each incident, I was in several lanes of traffic, and losing all power certainly creates a dangerous environment for me and other drivers around.

My 18 year old son was getting ready to get on the freeway and the vehicle suddenly slowed to 30 mph. We took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body at our expense. This issue is so common that Ford is having a hard time producing enough throttle bodies. The part is on national back order and this particular dealer had a car in the shop that had waited 1 month for this part. This is a serious safety issue. One minute later and my son would have been doing 65mph on the freeway. Imagine if he was in traffic and suddenly could not travel faster than 30 mph. In addition, since this event the Ford sync and bluetooth features no longer work.

My fiance was driving on I-26 to work 40 miles away. The car started jerking and stalling and losing power a semi blew the horn at her and swerved around her. She pulled over on the side of the road and cut the car off. When she started it back up and ran for a few more miles at a reduced speed but it kept doing the same thing. I took it to Ford dealership and they said that it was the throttle body and that they were common for this. Its so common that throttle bodies are on backorder. The only place you can get them is a Ford dealership for around $450 installed. I investigated on the internet and found out that it is a common problem but Ford refuses to do a recall. What is it going to take; for someone to die before they do one. If that semi had not been watching, my fiance may have been the one.

I was driving home from the local store and came up to a light. As I started to turn right and accelerate, the engine suddenly stopped accelerating. The incident occurred at about 1000 RPM's. the "service engine soon" light appeared. I quickly pulled over to the side of the street and turned the car off. I turned the car back on and got no more then 100 yards without the same thing happening again. I repeatedly did this until I managed to get home. A tow truck took it into the dealership and they said the throttle body was bad so they replaced it. I'm thankful this didn't happen when I was turning left with oncoming traffic which could have easily resulted in an accident.

I was leaving work driving down columbia pike road in arlington, va. @ 3:30 in the afternoon on August 22, 2013 heading towards interstate 395. I has stopped at an intersection waiting for the light to turn green and my 2010 Ford Fusion began to shake violently, as if it was going to cut off for no apparent reason. I looked at the dash board and saw an illuminated wrench and could not figure out what was happening. The street light turned green and I mashed on the gas pedal and the car did not have any forward motion. The car continued to shake violently, so I immediately turned on my emergency flashers to warn the other cars and for my safety, that I was having a mechanical problem with my car and coasted down the hill looking for a safe location to try and figure out exactly what was wrong with the car. As I coast down the hill, I continued mashing the gas pedal with no results. I pulled over stopped the car and turned the car off for a few minutes trying to figure out my next step. Just by chance I decided to try and restart the car and the car started up with forward motion. If I had been on the interstate 395 near the pentagon, I could have lost my life because of this problem. I called my wife who lives in atlanta and told her what had happened and by chance that evening on the atlanta news other Ford owners were describing this very same issue (throttle body failure) on there Ford vehicles. I am filing a complaint against Ford motors to get this problem fixed at no cost to the Ford owners. We paid our money for a quality product and Ford should stand behind there product and fix it not just run away from the problem.

I was driving on the highway at about 65 mph when my vehicle lost power. Pushing the gas did nothing. I had to coast off the side of the road. Restarting my vehicle seemed to resolve the issue. The second incident was in town. I was driving about 35 mph when my vehicle lost power. I pulled off to the side, the vehicle sputtered as if it might die. I turned off the engine and then restarted it. I drove about 1/4 mile to my mechanic who was unable to diagnose the problem with his scanner. He thinks it is the " drive by wire " or a sensor.

My wife and son were in the car and had stopped at a busy 4-way stop intersection. With no prior warning the car started to shake and the check engine light and battery light came on. The power steering was barely working and the car stalled just past the intersection. They were able to restart the car, but the minute the car was put in drive it would start shaking etc.... we had to have the car towed back to van bortel Ford in East rochester NY for repairs. The dealership stated that we needed a new throttle body ($465.34) and a new battery ($123.90) on a 3 year old car. They indicated they new of a possible recall and told us to hang on to our receipt for a refund if the recall happens.

Driving at 45 mph, car loses power and/or acceleration. Wrench light illuminates and pulled car to side of road and vehicle shakes terribly. Shut car off and waited a couple of minutes and restarted car. Wrench light was not on and car ran fine. This problem has occurred on three more occasion within a week. Dealer could not find any codes but stated it would be a problem with the throttle body, even driving the car by a mechanic with a diagnostic tester, they could not duplicate the problem. This is a serious safety issue that Ford evidently does not want to fix under warranty because their is no code yet. Their are a lot of complaints on this issue on the internet. Ford needs to recall this part.

Was driving on the highway at about 65 mph and the car lost all response to the accelerator, pressing on the gas did not accelerate the car. Pulled over to the side and car ran a rough. Turned the car off, waited about a minute and restarted. Car restarted fine and drove fine after that for the rest of the trip. My wife drove the car the next day and had the same thing happen while she was on the highway. She saw the check engine light come on (I don't recall it coming on, but may have just missed it).

The wrench light comes on and the car loses its acceleration completely. As I pull over the side of the road and brake, the car will start shaking. The only way to fix it is to turn the car off and back on again. The wrench light will disappear after that and it'll start driving normally again. First time this happened I was on the interstate with my three year old in the car with me. One unhappy momma!!!! the code it read P2111 which I have been told it is a defect in the throttle body. Hope they are right.

Driving to work on 8/5/13 at around 40mph when my vehicle starts to automatically slow down and shake. I looked down at the dashboard and noticed a "wrench" was lit up for a warning, but it was not there when I started the car before going to work. I was able to pull over and stop for a few minutes. I started the car again without any problems, and the "wrench" sign was not lit. I was able to make it to work, which was another 5-10 miles away, but I drove around 25mph in case I needed to pull over again. Later that same day, the same exact thing happened while driving on the highway on an incline at a speed of 50mph. I was almost hit from behind because the car stalled immediately without warning and the driver behind me could not tell that my car was slowing down immediately. Luckily I was not hit and I was able to pull over and stopped the car for a few minutes. Again, I re-started the car without the "wrench" sign lighting up. I drove straight to the dealership. They were not able to look at it that day, so I had to leave the car overnight and get a rental. I received a call the next day from the dealership and was told that it was a failure of the electronic throttle body. Total out of pocket cost of almost $690. My vehicle is only a little over 3 years old and only has 52,000 miles on it.
