Driving home from work, I had my cruise control set for about 70. After about 40 mins on cruise control, my rpm's soared to 6 from 3 - 4. I did not have my foot near the gas pedal. I depressed the brake worrying that something was wrong. I immediately went to the Ford service center in Bangor. I told them what happened. Of course being a woman they asked some of stupid questions such as; Did you press the gas pedal to accelerate when this happened? Um, first lesson in driving class, gas pedal revs the rmps. No, I did not press the gas pedal.
A tech hooked up the computer to my car and claimed nothing showed up as wrong. Please note that I was worried about something wrong because my warranty was about to expire. I asked what might have caused that. Their answer was, "Maybe you hit that gas pedal without knowing it. Or the car mat hit the gas pedal." Yes, my car mat that is tacked down gets really rambunctious at times and rears up. PLEASE!
Now, I am a reasonable woman, but I hate being treated like an idiot. The service center did not write this complaint up. Two months later when I went in again with the same problem only more severe they had no record of my visit before. Therefore, it would not be covered as a recurring problem and would not be covered due to my warranty running out.
