Fusion

  • 89,400 miles
Earlier this month, I started my car [Ford Fusion 2010 SE] after having it parked [never having this situation before] my car started vibrating after I turned the car on and barely driving it. I placed the car in park and popped my hood and looked at the engine, the entire thing was vibrating so I turned the car off for a few minutes and restarted, the problem was then gone and I thought hmm.. maybe its just a minor issue. This same thing happened again a few days after and then a few times within the same week up until now. So I'll be driving and the car would just slow down and my engine would be vibrating. I took my car to the shop [barely making it there] I went to "broad & james auto care located at 3288 E broad St columbus, oh 43213" after having a diagnostics done I was advised that I had a throttle body failure and they contacted Ford krieger in columbus oh and was advised that the parts are on back order and that there are no specific date of receipt. Upon research I've found out that this is an ongoing issue for this vehicle. Now my car can't be driven at all.

The first occurrence was when I was beginning to accelerate at around 50 mph. The engine lost power and my engine and wrench light came on. Car began to shake and there was no response from the engine just high RPM's and no movement. I pulled over and turned the car off. When I restarted the car, the engine light was on but the wrench light was off. I continued to drive but about 20 miles down the road it did it again. At the time I thought I had got a bad batch of gas. I had filled up that morning. The engine light went out and I drove for another 10,000 miles before it happened again in downtown traffic. Now the car will only go about 2-3 miles before the it goes into the limiting mode. I talked to the dealership and they told me it is the throttle body. They are on at least a week back-order because they can't keep up with the demand of the faulty part.

I had just left the dealership after getting an oil change. After driving less than 1 mile the wrench light came on and my car decelerated. I immediately went back to the dealership. They ran a test and said that it passed, but it my be the throttle body. They told me to try again and if I have problems to call. I left again and the same thing happened. I called the service associate and they had me bring it back. The throttle body was replaced.

Approximately 3 weeks ago I noticed a small bucking type symptom while sitting at an idle at stops lights. Today while pulling out from my street onto the main road my car began bucking very bad and stalled. I was able to get it restarted and continued on to work. It happened twice more at stop lights while trying to cross a major highway! I called my mechanic and took it in immediately. They just called to tell me it was the fuel body and that this is a known issue with these cars and the parts are on back order! considering the severity of this issue and the fact that someone could be seriously injured in a accident because of this issue I would demand that Ford issues a recall for these parts immediately!

Lost power at highway speed. Pulled onto shoulder and restarted engine. Later checked the code, which was P2111. Stopped driving car: In some situations this loss of power could be a safety issue. Dealer replaced throttle body at a cost of $400.

Three times, the car hesitated and nearly stalled, then would not accelerate normally. It was stopped and restarted and was able to be driven home but traffic was disrupted on a major thoroughfare and very scary. When we took it to the dealer, they said it was a throttle body problem and was unsafe to be driven home. Unfortunately parts are back ordered and we are without a vehicle because they said it is unsafe to drive, as is.

While driving my car lost all acceleration. The wrench light came on and the check engine light came on. I had to quickly pull over to avoid traffic coming up from behind me. I sat on the side of the road turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes before turning it back on. This reset the gauges and I could begin driving home (less than a mile away). On the way home it happened again. Called my Ford dealership, veterans Ford in tampa, fl. I spoke with a service advisor named [xxx], who through my description of the symptoms said that it is the throttle body. They had just fixed three Fusion that very day with the same problem. He said it is a know issue with the 2010 Fusion model and they fix many of these. Seems to me that Ford should realize their is a wide spread issue with this part and it is unsafe. This should be a recalled part in my opinion as it is now going to cost me between 400-700 dollars to repair. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Driving in heavy traffic the car lost power going up a hill, as if the gas pedal had been disconnected. Luckily I was able to avoid being hit and pulled out of the way. After a few minutes the car did start again but the shifting is strange and it dies a lot. I called Ford dealership and they stated it was probably the throttle body as they had been replacing them left and right. This would not be covered by any warranty and would cost around $500. I then had a private mechanic look at it. He drove it around and the car died on him 3 times in this one trip. So after checking...he confirmed it is the throttle body but the part is on a national back order and would take up to 6 weeks. The manager of the service department at the Ford dealership is very aware of the problem with the Fusion and advised me to contact Ford corporate. I did and their response to the problem was "we apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you.we highly recommend that your vehicle be inspected by your servicing Ford dealership to determine the cause of any symptoms your vehicle may be experiencing. They have factory trained technicians, comprehensive service information and specialized equipment to help diagnose your vehicle." Right, more money for them. Someone needs to do something about this before someone gets hurt in an accident. Ford needs to stand behind their product. It's obvious by the national back order that there is a problem somewhere.

While I was up to speed (65 mph), the car's wrench light came on, and lost power. All of the electrical systems were still functioning, but the car would not accelerate. I waited a few minutes, tried the car again, and it made it to my destination, and went trouble-free on the return trip home. The car had the same occurrence on Monday, July 8. at that time, I called roadside assistance who came and towed the car to the dealer that services my car. I was told that the throttle body had to be replaced. Estimated repair cost: $387.

Driving along on a local road (35 mph) the car suddenly lost most of it's power and started shaking. I was able to coast to a gas station and get a tow to my dealership...they tell me it's the throttle control and will cost about $500. Going online to find out more information about this I see there are several thousand complaints about the same issue in this model. The severity of this type of breakdown (some people were on the highway) and with no warning whatsoever makes this a very important issue to be dealt with. I was lucky, but am still out $500.

Driving car approx. 50 to 60 miles an hour, engine just stops, no accelerator pedal pressure. Wrench light comes on(Ford owners manual shows it to be throttle body/drive-train). This has happened several times previous to yesterday's occurrence. We brought the car from drivetime and took it to their mechanic and he said he could not find a stored code, was I do not believe to be true. After searching online concerning some incident, we noticed that owners of the same model car have had the same problem. Very dangerous while traveling and the car just quits. Apparently Ford knows about because a car a local dealer and the parts department has parts on back order. Yesterday, 7/10 the check engine light came on and the code was P2112(throttle body stuck closed). Something needs to be done about this problem. Thanks for your time.

During morning rush hour traffic, my 2010 Ford Fusion began to lose acceleration and shake violently while I was traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour. Fortunately, I was already in the far right travel lane so I could put on my flashers and pull off the road. I cut the engine and waited for a few minutes. I restarted the car and was able to get to my workplace. Based upon my preliminary research, this appears to be a widespread problem that has serious safety implications. I strongly encourage investigation and study of this issue with Ford to institute a recall to resolve such issues.
