Same issues as stated here. Power Steering Assist Fault has been coming on intermittently. I was able to turn the engine off and on without the fault coming on for about 4 months. Now in the colder weather (not sure if this is related), it is on for good and will not come off. I have also had the Low Tire Pressure sensor fault on for a good year, however the actual tire pressure on all tires is just fine. I have not gone to a dealer or mechanic yet, but would imagine it is just as pricey if not more than what has been stated; around $1,500.

Back in October of 2020, I had gotten the power steering fixed with that being the gear box and the rack and pinion it cost almost $1500 a year later. I'm having the same problem with the power steering fault coming back on the dash and I have a feeling I'm going to have to fix this issue again, charging me an outrageous amount to fix this issue that I believe should be a recall due to this happening again, after just fixing the problem and it only lasting a year.

On May 10, 2022, the steering wheel on my daughter’s 2010 Ford Fusion locked up and she received a “power steering assist fault” on the dashboard. Luckily, this happened while she was in the driveway. The cost to repair this is practically more than the car is worth. This is a manufacturer defect and has already caused crashes and injuries. Ford should be responsible for their car owners and recall the 2010 Ford Fusion to fix this problem.

How can Ford allow for this problem to happen and not do anything about it. They are adding credence to the saying that FORD stands for “FIX OR REPAIR DAILY”. I am extremely upset about this problem and hope that they put out a recall for this issue on the 2010 Ford Fusion.

Another one surely to get lost in the sea of EPAS (Electric Power assist) issues with the 2010 Ford Fusion V6 3.0 engine. Light came on. I stopped and restarted the car. It worked about 6 - 8 times prior to it failing completely and power steering being lost. Dealer repair cost $2500.00 in addition to diagnostics fee.

To summarize, there was a recall for the exact same issue for model year 2011-2012 under NHTSA 15V-340. Read in much details and they skipped over 2010 models, citing issues only related to 3.5 Litre engines which didn't begin production until late 2010, but referenced in the report, same EPAS/Rack & Pinion assembly for 2010 - 2012.

Long story short, Ford will not acknowledge publicly the "alleged" problem exists until completion of NHTSA investigation PE 16-011 (closed 9/28/16 and upgraded to Engineering analysis 11/20/2017 which is still open), EA 17-004.

As of 11/20/2017 2217 complaints were filed between NHSTA and Ford, reporting exactly what we are in this post. I am guessing there have been another 2000 reports here estimating over 2200 reports on 2010 Fusions (262,599 total sold). My hunch is there are many more we have not heard about yet.

Keep Posting, maybe we will get a recall pushed thru this decade!!!

As of 2016, there were over 350 complaints about this issue on 2010 Ford Fusions. Ford was supposed to investigate and decide if a recall was necessary. No recall was ever issued and the problem has affected many more cars since then. My car was running just fine. I went out of town to visit my daughter at college and when I went back to my car to drive home, the power steering assist fault came on and I was unable to turn the wheel. I tried replacing fuses, taking off battery cables, restarting car, etc. Nothing worked. When researching online, I saw what a big problem this was with the 2010 Fusions. The estimated repair costs are $1200!!!

Ford needs to include the 2010 Ford Fusion in their recall like the 2011-2014 Fusions. Chances are the same issue is what is happening in the 2010 as well. The car will be running just fine and then the power steering assist fault indicator comes on and the wheel won't move. This could be fatal if driving on a curvy road or interstate.

So on 11/9/2019, my tire was low and I went and put air in the tire and started the car and the steering fault light came on. I drove it to the car dealer and he checked and said he thought it had a recall on it, but the warning went away, so I drove it home. On Sunday, 11/10/2019, I started off to a friends house and the car starting acting up, spitting and sputtering. I could not drive the vehicle and had to have it towed this time to the Ford dealer. This time we was told there is no recall on the power steering failure. I'm waiting to see what the cost is going to be to fix this issue.

The "power steering assist fault" problem has occurred multiple times to my 2010 Ford Fusion as recent as today. After reading all the complaints about this problem, I would say I've been lucky so far since all the occurrences happened when engine was started from cold. However, I'm really scared to think that if someday it happens on a highway and I lose power steering assist while driving. This is a serious design problem and Ford should be responsible for their car owners and recall the 2010 Ford Fusion to fix this problem!

Why would Ford put out cars knowing they have steering problems? I mean, seriously, why call back 2011 and up on Ford Fusions when they know 2010 Ford Fusions have same problem. Look at how many peoples lives they put at risk, not only the owners of the car but other people on the road as well. I always liked Ford produces until I bought my son a 2010 Fusion, and had I known it was dangerous to buy, I would have bought him a Dodge. I'm very disappointed in Ford - the least they could do is fix the problem.

Ford recalled models with the same problem in 2011-2013 but not 2010, and it is a safety issue that has been waiting for a recall. Now it has completely lost power assist and I need to replace the whole rack. I just priced it at the dealership for $2100 approximately and it is under investigation but there is no recall yet. I've got a good dealer with great service. But since it went out and I got started on the Internet researching it now, I’m afraid for my wife to drive the car, so I’ve got a car that is really not worth putting a new part on. I am afraid for my wife to drive.

I'm not a happy camper... I really thought Ford was better than this. I'd be ashamed... this would be, like, embarrassing for me. I wish Ford would fess up - we all make mistakes, some need to suck it up and admit it's their fault. Just do a damn recall on the 2010 Ford Fusions already. I know they recalled the 2011 and up but the 2010s aren't any better.

Why exclude us? It's not our fault you screwed up. Why should we suffer more, for your mistakes? Do the right thing, RECALL THE 2010 FORD FUSION POWER STEERING ASSIST ALSO. PLEASE HELP THE LITTLE GUY OUT FOR YOUR HUGE MISTAKE NOW.

Same chronic issue other people are having with power steering assist failing. Except because my Fusion is a 2010 it's not covered under Ford recall (only 2011 and up). Mechanic estimates it will cost $2000 to replace the steering rack and the car is only worth $3000 trade in. Right now the car is un-driveable.

Ford has a recall for the same issue, a power steering assist fault, but it's for 2011 and up. There have been many cases of 2010 Fusions having the same issue. I need help with finding a way to get 2010 reevaluated for this recall. If it's the same exact issue, why is it not on recall? I did nothing for the power steering to go out, this is on Ford.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD IN MY LIFE, I WILL TELL EVERYONE AROUND ME TO NEVER BUY A FORD. I don't have $1,500 to replace something that should be recalled.

Please help me find a way to get this to Ford. Please help me with my next steps to get this issues resolved.

On 1/23/2020, the steering wheel on my 2010 Ford Fusion locked up and I received a "power steering assist fault" on my dashboard. I had it towed to the Ford dealership the very next day. Since it was a Friday, they told me it wouldn't be fixed until Monday, possibly Tuesday. On Monday (1/27/2020), I got a call from the dealership telling me that the car needed a new rack. The labor cost me $786.90, the parts cost me $1030,95. Combine those totals along with misc. costs and sales tax, I ended up paying $1922.31 to get my car fixed.

While I was waiting for my car, I took to google to research the "power steering assist fault" issue. There are numerous complaints from numerous people about this same problem. Not only is it an inconvenience, but the cost to get this problem fixed is outrageous. I've read about how other years of this model car have been replaced, but Ford has failed to recall the 2010.

I think it's unfair and unjust how Ford can allow for a problem of this caliber continue to happen and not do anything about it. I really hope they start to take the complaints of numerous people into consideration and finally put out a recall for this issue. I love my Ford, but I am extremely upset about this problem.

power steering assist fault

I bought my Fusion used on Feb-22-2021, on Mar-3-2021 I started my car in the driveway and the dash read POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. I had to move it to the road with manual steering which was very difficult. Luckily it didn’t happen when I was driving.

Now I’m in an uphill battle with the tiny car-lot that I bought it from for them to fix it since it’s within the 30 day safety period.

I can NOT believe that Ford recalled 2011-2012 which is the same car with the same problem and left out 2010’s. That’s extremely frustrating and not fair!
