The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the power steering failed and the steering assist indicator illuminated. While driving, the steering wheel pulled to the right. The contact was able to keep the vehicle in the lane by applying force to the steering wheel. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home and it was later towed to vic valley Ford Lincoln (501 East daniel morgan avenue, spartanburg, South Carolina 20304, (864)-583-3600). The dealer diagnosed that the power steering rear control arm was causing friction to the power steering system, which caused the system not to operate normally. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering) on August 11, 2018 by the same dealer. The recall repair did not correct the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 142,205.

On August 16th 2018. My 18yr son was driving when his power steering went. He could have been killed along with others. There was a recall by Ford. But with restrictions. With in 10yrs ir 150kmiles what ever came 1st. My son's car did not qualify as it was just over the 150K mileage. The cost of the repair is over 2K....we are devastate. How Ford can but such restrictions when my previous son & other's could have lost their lives. Also how can a dealership sell cars when there is very harsh recalls. We love to buy Ford because it is an american car & suppose to be dependable & reliable. I bought this car thinking my son was going to be safe. Instead I bought him a death trap. Thank you.

Sometimes on start up there is no power steering. There is a warning light about steering malfunction. If the key is turned off and then re-started the steering comes back. The danger is if this happens while driving.

My wife and I gave this car to our daughter when she got her drivers license in 2016.since then there has been a recall on the airbags that has not been fixed because they are on back order. The temperature sensor has gone out and Ford is aware that is a problem but will not recall, and now 3 times the steering has locked up on her with an error message that reads "power steering assist fault". in reading various articles there was a recall but for some reason my car having a 3.5 liter was not in the recall, not real sure what engine size has to do with power steering. Fortunately all 3 failures occurred in our drive way while she was backing out and she turned the car off and started it back up and the car corrected itself. I am in fear for my daughters life at this point, even though she has 2+ yrs of driving experience who is to say that if this happens when she is driving down the road she will know how to react without harming herself or someone else. Ford needs to own up and fix their defective vehicles ps. This Ford only has 45,000 miles on it. Ralph nader, we need you!!!!

Jenkins and wynne Ford in clarksville tn has replace the electronic power steering twice already. Vehicle was returned back to us on 8-9 Aug after fixing it for a second time. Within 24hrs electronic power steering went out again and returned it immediately to the Ford dealership. Now dealership is claiming the lower controls arms are bad and need to be replaced and is the cause of why the electronic power steering is going out. There has been no noticeable noises, clunks or anything to identify the issue being the lower control arms. Ford is claiming the bad lower control arms are putting to much pressure on the electronic power steering control unit.

The car is parked on the curb so I'd started it up and was proceeding to turn it around in a driveway across the street when the power steering went out suddenly and I could barely turn the wheel. A warning on the dashboard said the power steering assembly had failed. After much effort, I pulled the car alongside the curb across the street and turned it off. I called the dealer and the man there said there was a recall on the vehicle for the power steering and he was 99% sure it would be covered but after I had it towed there, he said it didn't meet the criteria for the recall -- that the computer wasn't throwing certain codes so I had to pay $2,000 to get it fixed. I just have to trust he was being truthful about the no codes.

I had a recall on my car last year 2017. I took it to be fixed. They replaced the throttle body and power steering module. After having that replaced I later notice my car wasn't driving right. There was a whining noise and a noise coming for steering wheel. So I took my car back to have it check out.the guy said it will cost $130 for them to check my car. I asked if cost to check the part they replaced because my car was driving the same since they fixed it. It took less than an hour for them to tell me that there wasn't anything wrong with the parts that was replaced. Now my car has been going down since. So June 30,2018 I took it to a mechanic for oil change and he told me that I should take my car to dealership to get rack and pinion check.he express to me that I should get it looked at soon because my wheel seem like it will lock. August 5,2018 I was driving the express way and almost lost control of my car. It kept swerving back and forward in and out of lane. I was trying to avoid hitting the car on my right side and hitting the brick wall on my left. I to brake on the expressway almost coming to a complete stop to get control of the car. I thank god there wasn't a car behind me. I had to replace the tail light several times. There a static noise coming from the center dash.

Upon starting the car and backing out of the driveway I experienced a loss of power steering assist. Even with several attempts to turn the engine off and restart, the code is still there. There have been many cases of this happening online and a recall that my vehicle was not under in 2015.

I took my 2011 Ford Fusion to the Ford dealership in harlingen tx. They verified the vehicle was up for recall since it has not been repaired. The mechanics took the car in and repaired the car after 7 days of dropping it off. On day 7 they called me that it needed a tie rod which I purchased and delivered first hand. 2 hours later they called me that I had to pay $1,300 because the car was not up for recall and that if I didn't pay they would be putting my broken part back on and releasing the car to me. I went on to complain to the manager and they managed to take $500 out for the repairs they have done that were supposed to be up for recall. I waited 7 days to find out I was being charged for a service that was supposed to be free. Recall number 15no1 and 15no2. I have recite and video of the confrontation. I had already wrecked the car due to the steering issues. I also repaired the damaged after the accident to later find out it was up for recall!

I was driving the vehicle and lost power steering assistance. Warning light came on and display noted that fault. Parked the car, when I restarted it the problem went away. This could have caused a major accident had my wife been driving the car and entered a shape bent in the road. Fortunately I was driving about 40 mph on a fairly straight road when the problem occurred. I checked and no recall has been noted on this particular vehicle, however it appears other 2011 Ford including Fusion have been recalled. I want this to be on record in the event there would be an accident due to Ford's reluctance to take action of this serious problem. Please note: I am not able to check the box for receiving recall alerts, but would like to receive them. Thank you

I recently started my car after work and got a "power steering assist failure" alert while stationary. The power steering has not worked since that incident. It's incredibly difficult to make turns, especially Michigan turn-arounds. Being that it's electrical, the estimated cost to fix is $1700! I don't have $1700 to fix it, and I have no choice but to drive it around like this. I learned that there were over 400,000 recalls for related incidents, but my vehicle is not recalled. Why? I also noticed that of the 1795 complaints on here, 759 of them are for steering issues. That's 42 percent! this is a disaster waiting to happen.

I was driving down the highway when the power steering went out. Alarm sounds went off and power steering default appeared on the info system. Had a hard time pulling off the highway. When I realized it was electrical steering I went online to find a way to fix the problem. I checked the fuses. Fuses were ok. Since I could hardly move the steering wheel trying to get off the highway I wasn't going to risk my life again or my fellow drivers on the highway by driving it back home. I waited for my car to be towed back home. You would think a car doing 70 mph would still be somewhat easy to steer right to get on the shoulder of the highway. It was not and took a good deal of muscle to turn the steering wheel right. If I was a older person or someone weaker this could have been bad.

My 2011 Ford Fusion's steering wheel completely gave out on me while driving on a highway in July of 2015. Extremely dangerous situation. Dealership informed me of an open recall and replaced the whole steering rack pursuant to Ford recall number 15S18. Fast forward three years later -- last Friday, also while driving, my steering wheel failed and almost caused a crash. Exact same errors. Contacted two different dealerships, as well as Ford, and all said they can't do anything about it -- that I would have to pay $2300+ to get it replaced. How can the steering rack fail me twice in three years" how does Ford get away with making this a one time recall and doing nothing when the same thing happens again" it's absolutely absurd and horrifying. No car - especially not one that is a relatively newer model - just randomly has a steering rack failure in the middle of a highway. If I had crashed, I am guessing Ford would have paid for the replacement.

I purchased this 2011 Fusion sel 6 months ago, the carfax report listed everything as being checked out but no report about epas as having recall issues, no problems until last week when the outside temperature reached the 90's, when exiting the freeway and coming to a stop the steering and brakes started loud growling noise at low speeds, continued throughout city street driving as well with it remaining constant until the temp cooled off overnight as it didn't have problems when temp was back down in the 60's but has repeated the growling noise again several times once the temp's return in hot weather. Went to the Ford dealer and said the recall 15S18 has been closed and that my VIN never was part of the recall notice, very frustrating that the 393,623 units effected that listed 2011-12 Fusion's never included all vehicles as viewing all the complaints numerous other vehicles that wasn't included in the recall are having the same issues as those that were. Received recall notice for the takata airbag possibly available in the 3 qtr and Ford is allowing owners a rental unit up to $30 a day until the takata airbag parts are available for replacement.
