Upon getting into my car last Sunday 02/05/2023, a message displayed on my dashboard indicating -??power steering assist fault-?? and the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn (I am an athletic young individual). This made it impossible to get out of my lot behind my apartment thus making me not able to use the car and had to take the bus. I called Ford who said I had taken my car into a Ford dealer for recall 15s18 and 15n10 and they reprogrammed the steering module in 2020. I am told that I am passed the extension of this recall as my car is past the warranty date which was up in 2021. This is extremely frustrating because I am being penalized for taking my car in to get the recall fixed when all they did was re-program the steering module. This is a safety issue and I am reading is unfortunately common to have issues after the re-program and thus not be covered by the recall. The recall should have been to replace the power steering modules, since they are faulty. Because my car was taken in before 10 years and 150,000 I should not have to pay $2200 now only 3 years later. I took my car to a local trusted mechanic who ran the codes and sure enough said that a code came up saying faulty steering control module. I hope more people file complaints so there can be another recall issued. Thank you for your time. Katie

My power steering went out in my 2011 Ford Fusion. When researching the possible cause, I found out there was a recall on the power steering for the model of my car. However, there is a 10 year or 150k mile limit on this recall. I couldn't understand how Ford could put a statue of limitations on a dangerous and faulty product; so, I took my car to a Ford dealer to get this issue resolved. They denied me the recall but said they could fix the power steering for $1800. I cannot afford that price. I'm submitting a request on here in hopes there's something that can be done. I just don't understand how there is a limit on a safety recall.

The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic unable to determine the cause of the failure. The failure was intermittent. The power steering has failed intermittently (at least 5 separate occasions) while driving. The failure was inconsistent between times driven and parked. First time noticed, turned vehicle on and could barely move the wheel. Turned vehicle off and back on and didn't have an issue with the steering wheel or on the road and got home okay. The issue started out this way and then once it was consistent it was unable to operate the vehicle safely. This vehicle is our main vehicle so it happened to myself and to my husband while on his way home from work. However, when the power steering failed was extremely difficult to turn the wheel while driving. We took into dealership and the diagnostics was the electrical power steering is faulty and the traction control has failed. After looking into the issue - we believe our 2011 Ford Fusion may have been one of the recalls that should have been included for the power steering failure recall that was sent to other 2011 Ford Fusions. We did not receive a notification, however after viewing online - Ford recalled 445K vehicles with the same exact issue.

While driving the power steering suddenly went out causing me to nearly crash. I was looking online and saw on their website that there was a safety issue and that they were fixing them. Since this was under the recall page and under the airbag recall, I had assumed that this was also under a recall. This was under campaign# 15N01. I went to a Ford Dealership (Veterans Ford) to get this and the airbag recall fixed. They then called me back and told me that not only was this issue not covered by a recall, that they would be charging me $250 dollars for the inspection. They also said it would cost $3900 dollars for the repair and that I had to have it done because it was a known safety issue. They said the fix was already done in 2015 when they reprogrammed the electric steering, when I took the car in for a warranty repair and airbag replacement (which was not done because they didn-??t have it in). I then called FORD directly for some answers and the guy told me that they were not obligated to repair it because it was not an actual safety recall. I told him why was this under a safety recall page and why was I charged $250+ dollars and the guy kept repeating (like he had done this countless times) that it was not a safety recall and that there was nothing that they can do. Upon researching this issue online, it seems to be affecting thousands of people, all of whom say they nearly (or have) gotten into an accident. I-??m sure there have been people seriously injured or killed by this sudden loss of control but not enough for anything to be done about it.

Complete steering gear failure, replaced by Witt Ford, I will request they keep the part for inspection. Driving down the highway when steering gear failed, no power steering placed driver and others on highway at risk. There were no warning lights or message until after failure of steering gear. Recall on steering issue 15v340000. I have never received any recall information or notified about any steering gear issue. Vehicle serviced by ford dealerships since October 2019 at least 10 times. Vehicle also registered with FordPass. Informed by dealer that recall and covered repairs expired at 10 years or 150000miles.

Received a fault warning on the instrument panel about the power assist system and the power steering was out; fortunately this was not while driving. After a little research, found out this can be intermittent. On the third try of starting, the error cleared and steering was fine. Took it to the Ford dealer as power steering failure is obviously very dangerous if it occurs while driving, which often happens to people with this problem. Lots of internet searching revealed this is a common problem with Ford's electronic power steering. No related recall but the Ford website and the dealer both showed that there was a "customer relationship program" related to this, but only for the first 10 years you own the car (mine is 11 years old). Will be $3k-$4k to fix. I could skip the fix and pray it never happens while driving, but that seems dangerous. Options seem to be to pay multiple thousands of dollars, drive a dangerous car, or trade it in (hoping it doesn't fault when they inspect it).
