I have a 2011 ford fushion hybrid it has approximately 116,000 miles. I was driving on mountain roads. The power steering went out without warning. There was no warning sign. The power steering stopped working and the vehicle became difficult to steer even at minimal speed. The vehicle was unable to be repaired and had to be transported on a trailer home. After notifying a dealer, I was told of a customer satisfaction program recall that would service the Steering components however it had a 10 year or 150,000 miles expiration. My vehicle was more than 10 years from original purchase date and therefore, ford would not cover this under warranty. The vehicle remains unrepaired and inoperable due to this known unsafe issue.

The power steering system just failed/froze up on me one day. The car was barely able to be steered and took my entire strength to move the vehicle. I took it to the dealer and they are saying it is not covered by a recall. Ford recalled the power steering units in 2011 Ford Fusions pursuant to campaign number 15N01. Now Ford is claiming that it is not covered under the recall. I never received notice of any recall. If I had, I would have taken it in.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while pulling out of her garage, the vehicle lost power steering functionality temporarily. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The contact stated that on one occasion, the power steering became operable after turning off and restarting the vehicle. However, the last failure lasted for approximately 20 minutes. A message indicating power steering assist failure was displayed. The contact was able to continue driving by using physical strength to steer the vehicle. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not repair the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) since the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. The contact stated that they still drive the vehicle. It is also noted that the power steering takes about 3-10 seconds to become functional upon starting the vehicle.

On two occasions (10/8/22 and 10/24/22) the vehicle had a loss of power steering. And I had difficulty turning the steering wheel. At the time the vehicle was going slow 5 to 10 mph, luckily I was able to stop. Both times the dashboard had a message " Power Steering Assist Fault". I took it to the Ford Dealer where the vehicle had been purchased from. I was told the computer diagnosis reported faults. This diagnosis cost alone was $275, and I spent a total of $3267.10 to repair the problem. This appears to be a known issue with this vehicle as there was a recall in 2015 (which in this vehicles case was handled with a reprogramming) and Ford extended 10 year warranty for replacement of the part if that wasn't originally done under the recall. The vehicle had an extended Service Plan, yet the extended warranty started with the original sale date. The car was purchased new October 10, 2010, the 10 year warranty expired October 2020! Luckily the incidents weren't serious, but Ford should take responsibility for not replacing the part under the original recall!

Lost 100% of electrical power steering while driving. Almost went over a drop-off while on a cloverleaf freeway exit which would have caused significant harm or death. The steering wheel was very difficult to turn and I needed to sit up out of my seat to use leverage from my body weight. I pulled over after that and found the closest Ford dealership. I carefully drove to the dealership and waited for them to open. While waiting I researched the issue and realized this was a Safety recall and very common. Recall is 15V340000. Once they opened I went in to see how long the recall would take to fix. The dealership said the safety recall isn't valid due to they reset my ECU when the recall initially came out instead of replacing the recalled safety part. Which allowed them to terminate the recall on my car. They scheduled to look at my car two weeks out and said it would estimate a $2000 bill, when I asked about a loaner vehicle since this is a known safety recall item and driving the car would be a significant risk to self and the others on public roads. They stated I could leave it there for two weeks but they wouldn't provide transportation. Since this is my only vehicle and I live off the Military Base I have to drive to make it to Duty. So I had to keep driving this vehicle on public roads creating a safety issue for myself and others on the road.

While I was driving down the road my cars information center showed a message of 'service power steering soon'. Stopped vehicle and restarted it to be met with a new message of 'service power steering now' with a total loss of power steering. Ford dealership tech confirmed a lack of power steering and confirmed the presence of DTC P07AE which was the exact code and issue of recalls 15S18 and 15N01. Recall work was completed by prior owner but there was no replacement of steering gear at the time and only a software update done, which and the issue I had was what the recall was based on. Ford refused to pay for repair stating the recall was closed even though it was 100% the same issue as the recall as confirmed by ford technician.

At 75,000 miles the rack and pinion was replaced under recall. Exactly 75,000 miles later the rack and pinion has failed completely, the car is dead in the water and having to replace the defective part now on our own.
