There is an open recall on the car's cooling system that can cause the car to over heat and catch fire, this is what happened. My daughter was at a friends house most of the night. She got into the car to come home. She got three to four miles or so out of town when it started to over heat. Being that she just left she pulled over and turned around to go back. With in seconds of turning around the car's warning light came on and she pulled to the side of the road. Being out in the country alone she called 911. 911 dispatch sent a officer and a tow truck to assist her. Before the officer and the tow truck arrived her friend showed up. She called 911 and told them that help had arrived. They got into the truck to go get water and let the car cool down when out of now where there was an explosion and the car was fully engulfed in flames. This was just a few min after she had gotten out of the car to get into her friends truck. By this time a passer by stopped and saw the car on fire and called 911 again for help. The car is a total loss. Thankfully my daughter was not hurt, however had help not arrived when it did she would have been killed. I called the Ford customer service number the next day to file a complaint. They where very rude and didn't offer much help. He even asked me what I thought they should do about it. I told them since this was an open recall they should be held liable for the car. I was told they would have to get back with me. As of yet I have not received a call or letter from them. This is a very serious problem and any one with this type of car should stop driving it.

I have a son and I live in memphis, tn and this is very dangerous. It is not only putting my life in danger but also my son's life as well as other drivers. I am literally scared to drive anywhere with my son in the vehicle out of fear my car is going to die and I am going to end up in a horrible crash! I know I am not the only one dealing with this issue. I have seen tons more online complaining about the same issue! unhappy with Ford and my vehicle at this point is an understatement. On March 26th, 2018 at approximately 10:40pm my 2013 Ford Fusion (VIN #[xxx]) caught fire underneath the engine compartment. This occurred after approximately a 5 minute drive. The car was parked for over 5 hours and on my ride home a light appeared on the dash showing coolant/engine overheating and smoke began to appear from the hood (this occurred as I entered onto the highway at approximately 60mph). I was able to exit the highway slowly and pull into a gas station. There the car continued to smoke and a person there pointed underneath the car where the fire was going. It took two fire extinguishers to put out the fire. I believe this is related to a recall 17S09. Prior to the fire, I had taken the vehicle in twice to fix this issue. On 6/22/17 I took the vehicle into carmax to have the coolant temp sensor replaced after experiencing overheating problems. I then took the car into tuttle-click capistrano Ford to have the coolant level sensor system installation work done per the recall on 7/7/17. Engine cylinder head recall: The recall came out early in 2017 stating that the cylinder head may crack causing an oil leak that may result in a fire in the engine compartment. The recommendation was to keep coolant level properly maintained which was done, however, the coolant kept disappearing and going inside the engine for about a year. The engine failed Jan 20, 2018 before a resolution by Ford could be found. I was driving down the road and it just stopped running and would not start again. I was able to coast off the side of the road. The car was towed to a Ford dealership in fayette, al where it has remained for two months. I have been given the runaround by Ford Motor Company until today when they told me they could not meet my expectations and referred me back to the local dealer. The local dealer offered to sell me a used engine for $4000 which I refused to purchase. My expectation is for Ford Motor Company to pay for investigation of the problem with my car which they have failed to do. I want them to repair my engine if this recall had anything to do with the failure, which I believe it has. Coolant is not supposed to leak into the engine and I believe the damage caused by this event has caused the failure. They have left me without a vehicle, which I still owe almost $10,000 on, and refuse to do anything at all.
