I was driving earlier this year, traveling down the interstate at 70 mph when my steering wheel came completely loose. I was able to get pulled over with no damage, but did have to get it to a dealership to have the steering wheel put back on properly. I was charged by the dealership for the service.

On July 26, 2017 I experienced a near total loss of steering of my 2015 Ford Fusion while driving in a parking garage. Warning lights indicating a loss of power steering assist and of traction control activated. Steering returned to normal after restarting the vehicle. My Ford dealership was contacted. I tried to then drive to the dealership for repair when the problem repeated itself. I got safely to the side of the road and arranged for a tow. The problem was diagnosed as being a failed steering gear assembly and the power steering rack was replaced, costing $1,871.42. A brief internet search indicates there have been at least three recalls of Fusion (and other Ford / Lincoln models) for power steering assist failure (6/11/2013; 5/2/2015; 6/27/2015). This is apparently a common problem with Fusion and reports of symptoms identical to those described herein are numerous. The actual failure that caused this event is unknown: Codes were pulled that indicated the electric steering rack assembly needed replacement but this does not pinpoint what part of the assembly was at fault. When asked what would cause this loss of steering on a vehicle having 59,666 miles on it, the Ford service manager suggested it was due to "driving over rough roads". this explanation, whether true or not, is absurd and unacceptable. The vehicle is operated under the same road conditions common to all drivers. If the design and manufacture of the Fusion steering system is delicate enough to fail under normal use it should be replaced. Problems that result in compromised steering or braking are life-threatening. It would seem to be only a matter of time before the ongoing steering problems with the Fusion results in death.

On July 23, I received a call from my wife saying her car would not start. After starting the car, we notice the power steering would not turn. Warning lights on the dashboard for power steering failure was flashing. Along with a few other service engine warning. While waiting for a tow truck, did research on youtube to see if this was a common problem. Well, to my surprise. Youtube was loaded with the same problem. My car is just over two years old.

I've had steering and transmission issues since I purchased this car that can't be and/or won't be addressed by the dealer. The car is very hard to keep in the lane especially on the expressway. The transmission shifts very hard upon acceleration and deceleration. The suspension is weak making the car seem as if it's sinking on the drivers side and bounces way too much as well as the swaying as the car is driven and has where roll on turns. The vehicle sits too low to clear all drive ways and the wipers don't clear the windows properly. The front window always gets foggy causing the heat or ac to be used constantly.

Takata recall. I was driving to work when all the sudden I coudnt turn my steering wheel left or right can drive straight but trying to turn T O make a left or right was impossible. I drove it to work that morning but it was so dangerous because it took me a long time to make turns since the steering wheel was so heavy to turn. I took it to for dealer ship and it took them 2 days before they could give me a diagnoses. They told it the steering wheel gear/ steering module needed to get replaced. Electrical power outage on the sheering wheel module. They first told me it would cast $1,300 then 2 days later $1700 I spoke to a supervisor and he told me $2200.0 when I told him I already got a quote from his mechanic, he said $1600

Started car and placed into reverse to back out of parking space. As I backed up I tried to turn my steering wheel, but couldn't. the steering wheel was completely locked and would not turn at all. After turning the car off and on several times I was finally able to drive the car. This has occurred on four separate occasions in a one month period. Once at the dealership I was told that the issue was the steering gear box, a $1,700 fix for a car that is less than two years old, but out of the 36,000 basic warranty. The car is being repaired at a local Ford dealer, I will provide the repair invoice once the work is complete.

My vehicle has stalled multiple times during motion and when it was in stationary. There was a message popping up on the dashboard saying "transmission not in park", I took it to multiple dealers to see if they can find the issue and all of them said that their computer isn't detecting the issue that I'm having. So they can't duplicate my concern. I even opened up a lemon law case in NJ so hopefully they can help me.

Was driving last Thursday Nov 10 2016 on my way to work, stop at red light then made a left hand turn and could not control my steering. Almost hit telephone pole due to not be able to turn my steering wheel. Had to call tow truck and tow it into hagerstown Ford. Need to order whole new steering box. I wonder how this could happen to a vehicle only one year old with only 70,000 miles. I seen they had recall 15S14 regarding the steering. I was never notifty.

I have the steering issues from defective eps programming that causes pulling to either side. The wipers don't work properly. The seats are hard and positioned wrong. The vehicle is too low. The rear makes a helicopter noise if I open the window while driving. The trans vibrates the car in eco but also shifts very hard in sport. The vehicle shut off while driving more than once. The list of problems go on and on.

Steering will pull left or right uncontrollably this problem has been happening on a regular basis. While driving the steering will pull the car left or right without warning. It seems to happen when nearing a corner or curve in the road but is not limited to that. After several occurrences my wife is now afraid to drive the car. We had a close call when the wheel suddenly turned to the right while we were attempting to pass a vehicle. People can be seriously hurt or die from this problem. I have not seen any recall from Ford on this problem and the dealerships I inquired at (2) have no knowledge of the problem. I am afraid it may cause a serious accident. This issue needs to be addressed,

Started car and several warnings popped up on display... something about "hill assist" not available, "steering assist fault service required", and "service advancetrac". steering wheel felt like it was still locked... turns out it was just extremely difficult to turn. I'm 6'3" 200+ lbs. If it's difficult for me to turn, it would be impossible for most people. If this had failed while the car was in motion, someone could have been seriously injured or worse. Ford had this same problem on 2011-2012 Fusion and issued a recall and now it's still happening on 2015 models. This needs to be recalled immediately as Ford never really fixed the problem. Excerpt from 2011-2012 Fusion recall: Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 423,000 vehicles (actual 422,814) including certain 2011-2013 Ford Taurus and flex vehicles, Lincoln mks and mkt vehicles, for certain 2011-2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln mkz vehicles, and for certain 2011 Mercury Milan vehicles in North America for a potential intermittent electrical connection in the steering gear that might result in the loss of electric power steering assist while driving. If this happens, the steering system defaults to manual steering mode, making the vehicle more difficult to steer, especially at lower speeds. This could result in the increased risk of a crash.

Driving on most any road above 30 mph the steering pulls left or right unpredictably. Steering at highway speeds through a long curve the steering pulls hard causing difficulty in maintaining desired direction. The symptoms I experience are well documented in class action suit: Case5:14-cv-02989-hrl. The epas system coupled with pdc (pull drift compensation) causes the steering effort to be unpredictable. Ultimately the car is difficult to handle at highway speeds.

Upon returning from a long trip and approximately 3 miles from home, the steering wheel of the car began to vibrate heavily and as I turned a corner, the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and I lost my power steering. The info on the dashboard informed me the vehicle had lost the power steering and traction control and I was to seek service immediately. By driving slowly, I was able to make it home steering manually. The dealer was notified immediately and they arranged to tow the car to the dealership. Two days later I was contacted by the dealership and informed the steering gear had failed and would need to be replaced. Because of the serious nature of this defect and the fact that I had just purchased the car new on 6/15/15, I requested a replacement vehicle but was told Ford would not do that. I contacted Ford Corp. And my case was turned over to the regional mgr. Of this area and he also informed me that the car would not be bought back but would be repaired under warranty. As compensation my new car warranty was extended to 5 years. I shudder to think what might have happened to my wife and myself had this steering failure had happened at the highway speeds we had just been traveling and am now nervous about the overall quality of this vehicle. I feel the public should be made aware of the potential of this dangerous, serious defect in the Ford Fusion.
