The brakes often GRAB and CLUNK when BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS. This is an intermittent (yet common) problem which occurs when coming to a stop, slowly pulling forward after already having made a stop, creeping forward to check for oncoming traffic and other similar scenarios. The noise and feel of this sensation is startling when it occurs, therefore making it unsafe! I have inquired with two dealer service departments. One said it was a common problem for the hybrid and nothing was wrong. I stated I owned a FORD hybrid for six years, as well as other hybrids and none of them had this issue. He then said it was "due to the weight of the vehicle". The second was unaware of any problems and said I could make an appointment, but they wouldn't be able to try to fix it unless they could recreate the problem.

The brakes will suddenly and almost violently grab when travelling at low speeds (be!ow 10 mph). Like through a parking lot or parking garage or driveway. It doesn't happen every time, but it does occur a few times every day. Tbe brake grabbing is sudden and unexpected. The sudden stop throws tbe occupants and contents of the truck foward. I believe this to be a hazzard and needs to be corrected by Ford.

Brakes: ford already issued a TSB but this is more recall level issue (22-2493). At low speeds the breaks as applied so not work and then eventually -??wake up-?? and grab hard due to the operator having to press much harder on the brakes to engage. This is not safe and should be a full recall with an investigation. There are many threads that discuss this on the internet, I am also experiencing it. It-??s a matter of time before someone gets rearended because the Maverick brakes don-??t work at low speeds well. Separately, flashing lights from the sun through the trees triggered a early collision warning for me once which I thought was odd. The cause is a guess but there were not other cars in front of me.

This small Ford 2022 truck is a brand new first year of its type Hybrid, with electrical regenerative braking. The 2022-2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid system attempts to use electrical regenerative braking at speeds that are too low to generate a braking effect. When creeping forward in stop-and-go traffic below 10 mph, depressing the brake pedal has zero effect on slowing the truck down. Numerous times I have been in situations that required what I might refer to as sensitive, gentle or careful braking where one might "drag" on the brake to creep forward in traffic or parking. That is nearly impossible and NOT consistent with the brakes on the Hybrid Ford truck. Depressing the brake pedal with a heavy foot does engage the hydraulic brakes to finally stop the vehicle. But it also does it in a very sudden way, causing passengers items in the back seat or bed to be forced forward, as in a sudden crash. This has been a problem since I took delivery of the vehicle and I-??ve had many close calls in traffic thanks to this defect. My wife hates to ride (and will not drive the vehicle) in city driving situations. No warning lights are associated with this problem.

Two issues with my 2022 Hybrid Maverick: First, the brakes are unpredictable. Often in slow moving situations, the brakes fail to engage until I ultimately have to floor the pedal often causing a grinding noise and abrupt stop. Attempts to slowly brake sometime fail. Passengers in truck are thrusted forward when this occurs and I often feel like I am going to rear end someone. Brakes will be assessed next week at my local FORD dealer in conjunction with the engine problem. For a SECOND TIME my ENGINE FAILED WHILE ACCELERATING on 55 mph highway. As I normally accelerated to cross the Choptank River bridge in MD, the engine revved but the car failed to accelerate, the engine malfunction came on and a red box saying to pull over safely. Having experienced this before, I knew I had to get off the highway. I barely made it across two lanes of traffic to pull off to the adjacent fishing pier. I noticed my electric power was a low as my window would barely move. I turned off the car and called my dealer. They advised that I could get a tow or if I felt safe, and the car turned back on, to drive it in even though the malfunction light was still on. So I drove it home Friday night and it goes to the dealer on Monday. However, this engine failure happened to me once before in early December which required a tow in to the dealer. Again, I was normally accelerating on RT.695 when the engine revved but the truck slowed/stopped in a exit/merge area. I did not have enough power to get to the shoulder so I managed to pull over into the small area of the merge/on ramp. At this time my car went into a Deep Sleep, nothing worked. Once towed to the dealer, they assessed my car had an "old" battery in it and replaced it. Guess it wasn't the battery since my engine has failed again. Also, since the first engine failure, my overall gas mileage only averages 35 mpg but before these episodes I averaged 41mpg for 8 months. Feeling VERY UNSAFE in my Maverick now!

Hybrid Maverick: The brakes grab so abruptly while coming to a stop. It will jerk your upper body forward. Sometimes the brakes won't grab until the very last second. It feels like the transition from Hybrid braking to mechanical braking is lethargic then grabs all of a sudden. In stop and go traffic there is a lack of confidence that the brakes will actually stop you in time. It literally hit or miss. Very dangerous and jarring. It is not something that the driver can get used to through muscle memory. As the driver you have zero control over this action. Anything slow and/or at a downward slope in traffic will make you cringe.

This is a hybrid braking issue where an extreme loud 'clunk' noise which can be felt coming from under the car at low speed less than 10 miles an hour when braking the car. In addition, the brakes seem to not engage properly at stop and go traffic forcing driver to stomp on the brakes to make the car stop. The brakes sometimes won't release after stopping forcing the driver to hit the throttle where the car suddenly lunges forward after the sudden release of the brakes. The Forward Collision warning also comes on unexpectedly without having another car in front of me. Happened twice since ownership of the car. Seems to be common in cold weather.

When I go to stop the vehicle brakes take longer to catch on to stop the vehicle. This has been an ongoing problem since vehicle pick up March 2022. I drove my truck in the last snow fall we received and when I went to brake it was much worse than in normal conditions. It felt like I slid into the stop and had to push the brakes really hard and my kids heads jerked trying to brake. Clearly is a safety issue. When I was in a drive thru waiting for my food the truck jerked forward and it felt like the transmission was falling out.

When braking at slow speed and almost stopped, the brakes grab hard suddenly and prematurely then lock without pushing the brake pedal any harder. Happens when I'm just slowing to stop. I have not taken the vehicle in for this. I have not had an accident. No one has been hurt. It is a safety risk stopping short of the intended spot. Driver and passengers suddenly getting jerked forward when not prepared. Loud bang or grabbing noise. Could be rear ended due to sudden unplaned braking. Doesn't occur everytime. No dash indicator lights on when this occurs. Brakes release is normal after this occasion. This has happened numerous times since purchase in March 2022.

Vehicle was in traffic traveling 5-7 mph applied brakes, they failed to engage. Continued to apply more pressure without effect to speed. After three to four seconds of forward momentum and continuing to apply steady pressure to brakes, brakes engaged forcefully causing the wheels to lock up. This was without warning. This has been happening more frequently and with more randomness. Due to the hating motion, this latest event compounded a prior injury in my back and passenger shoulder (from the seat belt locking). Reported problem to dealer, was told this was normal. This has happened many times prior, this is the first time it caused an injury.

Breaks not responding or working correctly at low speed... At low speed the break pedal will suddenly become "soft" and vehicle will surge forward until the break pedal is moved a significant distance downward in some cases causing a very abrupt stop from having to slam on the breaks. The other situation during slow speed is that the breaks will suddenly stop short and hard. Then you will need to release the break to move forward causing the above situation to occur where the break pedal becomes soft and takes a lot of downward travel to achieve the same level of breaking. I am an experienced driver of many years and have owned or rented hybrids and EV's and none have had breaks that responded as dangerously as the 2022 Ford Maverick. I have nearly hit two other stationary vehicles in a parking lot and while at a stop light as well as nearly hitting someone that was walking between parking spaces as the this vehicle surged forward from a sudden loss of breaking at low speed. As you can imagine this also causes many looks of concern from observers as your vehicle is surging and stopping abruptly while driving in parking lots or traffic. I purchased this vehicle for my family to use and I don't want them use it due to these safety concerns. The breaks work as expected on highways at higher speeds, only issue is during slow speed breaking. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

About two weeks after first buying the car I noticed that when breaking the pedal requires inconsistent extra pressure at times to stop the car. Also while breaking and coming to a slow downhill stop the front end makes an odd clunk sound while jerking to a stop. These things only happen very infrequently, so when I took it to the Hansel Ford dealership (in Santa Rosa, Ca.) they could not repeat the sound or breaking effect. The first time I heard the noise I thought I hit something. I feel that the inconsistent breaking could pose a safety issue, making it harder to stop, and potentially causing a collision. I called Ford consumer assistance, they gave me case # [XXX], and asked me to return it to the dealer. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

While driving in traffic on the highway at about 20-30 mph, traffic in my lane slowed further. In response, I applied what should have been an adequate amount of brake pressure to slow down and stop if needed given the following distance I had left. Initially I progressively applying more braking pressure, but after a ~3 seconds of this I slammed the brake down. Instead, the vehicle did not slow as expected in the following ~5 seconds. Despite having slammed on the brake at that point, the vehicle only then showed the emergency braking alert and emergency braked in addition to my foot being fully down on the brake. However, this was too late as my passenger and I rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma. They and myself have filed against my insurance, so there is an accident on my car report that I know has depreciated my new vehicle-??s value. Although I do not currently have the Toyota-??s estimate, I believe I can ask the owner or my insurance for this. Previously, I had several rear-ending close calls in the car when in traffic and I knew that I often struggled to slow down at stop lights when they first turn yellow. As a result, I-??ve often sped up to beat the red since I knew my vehicle struggles to brake in time. My car is currently being repaired by the closest dealership to my SO, but I no longer trust the vehicle. I believe my hybrid maverick does not adequately mechanically brake since it over relies on the weaker regenerative braking. The dealer has attempted to replicate the issue at this point but my vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. I am happy to answer any additional questions.

There's an issue every time I pull in a parking spot or when coming to a slow stop at a red light where there's an abrupt braking issue - I slowly press the brake and it would not slow smoothly sometimes even make a loud noise which sounds like the hydraulic brake all of a sudden working when its supposed to be smooth breaking - this is dangerous as it is random and may come as a surprise when just trying to come to a slow stop. I believe its the transition between the e brakes and the hydraulic brakes its just not smooth at all.

The brakes on this vehicle tend to not respond when performing parking lot maneuvers, creeping in traffic, fast food drive-thru, or backing or pulling into garage. At low speeds, the brakes will either not respond when brake pedal is applied or stop very abruptly / grab with a loud clunk sound. Several incidents of not stopping when expected and almost hitting another vehicle or person.

Brakes are inconsistent. Sometimes the brakes will be light resulting in a longer than expected stopping distance. Other tombs the brakes will grab resulting in a jerky stop. The inconsistency makes it difficult to gauge stopping distance and come to a safe and controlled stop.

When my wife and I were driving in a slow traffic situation I was applying the brakes and it was as if the brakes were not working until all the sudden they locked up. we thought we were going to rear end the vehicle in front of us. This happens to my wife and to myself every time we drive our vehicle, It seems even worse in rainy conditions. (This has been an on going problem since we purchased this vehicle.) We feel very unsafe driving our Maverick and Have been told by the dealership that it is the way the brakes work on the Hybrids. Dealer states they could not duplicate the problem, but from there understanding thats just the way the brakes work on Hybrid Vehicle. No one other then the dealer has ever looked at or inspected our vehicle. It has been a issue since I purchased the Vehicle New, No warning lights, No message, No symptoms or problems prior to the brakes malfunction. This happen every time we drive the vehicle. I am almost 60 years old, I have been driving a long time, and have never had a car brake this way, . Definitely something not right.

When traveling <10 mph it feels as though you are stepping on the brakes. The normal pressure needed to apply the brakes does not work. Drivers then have to apply significant pressure and the vehicle abrasively stops. The brake issue has already almost led to several fender benders in stop-and-go traffic (e.g. airport pick; heavily-trafficked roads and drive-throughs).
