Taurus

  • 81,500 miles
Many models and years of the Ford Taurus have been recalled due to failure of the power steering. My car is a 2013 Ford Taurus and some "batches" of the same model and year have had the recall. Mine is not included, however, twice in the past 3 months, the power steering has failed on me. The dealership says the fix is a new rack and pinion piece which costs $900 from Ford.

  • 60,075 miles
While driving 75 mph on an interstate, I lost the power steering and was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road, a red warning message to service power steering now came on, at the same time turn signal would not work and traction control warning light came. Since it was the weekend and I was driving home for christmas I still drove the car home. I now have the car at dealership, and being told no recall on this car. But there is a recall on others for same issue. I don't have the cost yet but tried to call Ford customer service and they are close for the holiday. Wait to see what's next. Mileage on the car was 60,070.

Driving on freeway when the engine warning light came on and lost all control of steering. Had to stop in middle of road when a bystander came by and helped me get it to the side. Then had it towed to my house. Found out it was electric steering had gone out. Could have caused serious accident. Called Ford and they said there was no recall for my car. Will have it towed to Ford dealer where I will probably have to pay big bucks to get it fixed.

Taurus 6-cyl

  • 55,000 miles
While driving down the street the steering wheel on the car locked up and wouldn't turn. The car gave a "service power steering" and " steering assist default" at the time of the wheel locking up. This is very dangerous because the car just stops where you are. It won't take gas or anything. This is the second time that it has happened in this car. I took the car to a Ford dealer and was told that the problem was a weak battery. I do not think this is the problem. I have noticed other Ford vehicles of the same year with this problem. I think this is a major problem and needs to be corrected before someone is hurt or killed by this problem.

While driving the car around a curve the steering wheel locked up. The "service power steering" message came up. As well as the " steering assist default". when this happened I was traveling at approximately 45 mph. I couldn't move the steering wheel at all. I slid off the side of the road into the ditch. It was like the wheel had completely locked up. Just so happen there were no cars close behind on I would have been hit.
