Envoy 4WD 6-cyl

  • 70,000 miles
My 2005 GMC Envoy's gas gauge has been broke since it had 70,000 miles. It now has 104,000, but I have been tracking fill ups by mileage for over three years now. Everyone I know that has a trailblazer or Envoy has the same issue.

Inaccurate fuel gauge resulted in running out of gas twice while driving on the expressway; one of the events nearly resulted in an accident.

Envoy

  • 83,000 miles
Immediately after filling gas tank before heading out of town on 4/22/11, fuel gauge registered empty. Gauge has been acting erratically for the past week now. News report of NHTSA investigation made me aware that I could report this somewhere. Oil pressure gauge has also been acting similarly erratic, starting a few days before fuel gauge began malfunctioning.

problem #55

Envoy

  • 75,000 miles
Fuel gauge suddenly stopped working properly after fill up. Moves from empty, to 1/2 full, to 1/4 full to empty, back to 1/4 full, back to empty. I can't determine how much gas in may tank. This could cause me to unexpectedly run out of gas while driving in traffic and cause an accident. This is apparently a very common problem in GMC Envoy and Chevrolet trailblazers. There is no warning in the owners manual or suggestion that the gauge and sensors be replaced. I understand that this is an expensive repair - between $600 and $900.

Envoy 4WD 6-cyl

  • 70,000 miles
I own a 2005 GMC Envoy. While driving 45 mph, the I noticed that the fuel light illuminated on the instrument panel. This indicated that the vehicle was low on fuel, but in reality, the vehicle was full of gasoline. I noticed that when the fuel tank is full, the gauge will display half of a tank. When half of a tank of fuel is in the vehicle, the gauge displays that it is empty. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer for inspection and no repairs were performed. I am in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 76,000 and current mileage was 77,500.

Envoy 4WD 8-cyl

  • 91,880 miles
The fuel gauge indicated empty after filling up the tank with 20 gallons. The gauge continued to read empty and the check engine light came on. I have read that this is a common issue for this vehicle. It is obvious this is a manufacturer problem that needs recalled and fixed. It is unsafe to drive the vehicle if you don't know the amount of fuel you have.

Fuel gauge is faulty. Will not record exact capacity of fuel in tank. This lead to the vehicle running out of gas during operation. Avoided a crash, just barely.

The fuel gauge is inoperable due to the failure of the fuel sending unit. This is a common issue in the 2004 -2007 GMC Envoy, Chevy trailblazers and Buick ranier. I know at least 4 other people who have experienced this issue. The dealer states that this is not a class action issue but to many comments are on the internet. The vehicle will stall at intersections and parking lots when proceeding through the intersection after being stopped. I contacted GM customer service and they stated that this is not a recall issue with the GM products. GM should be recall all vehicles and replace the fuel sending units at no charge or a reduced charge(cost of part or labor whichever is the least cost to the owner). The government has bailed them out now it is time for GM to do the right thing. Also the instrument cluster stopped working correctly also and this resulted in speeding tickets. I have replaced with a remanufactured instrument cluster at the cost of $150 vs $600 with the local GM dealer.

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy XL-slt and the fuel gage has stop working properly I have no idea how much fuel is in the Envoy I am afraid that it will cause a system failure and shut down in the highway unexpected and cause a collision, their needs to be a recall on these vehicles to have the problem fix from what I have read on the internet their are a lot of people having this problem.

On 1/31/2011 my 2005 GMC Envoy showed my gas was down to a quarter of a tank. I stopped to fill up before a snow storm came in and put 16 gallons of unleaded fuel into my tank. Immediately after my gas gauge went to empty and my gas light came on. It went up to a quarter of a tank and then went back down again. It is still showing empty, with the gas light on, and I know it has a full tank of gas.

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that after filling his gas tank, he noticed that the fuel gauge gave an incorrect reading; at times it would read full and on other occasions it would read empty when he filled up the tank. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer and had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.

2005 GMC Envoy the fuel gage reads "low fuel" even when the tank is full. I am a mother of four. I am constantly on the road with my children. I am very afraid of running out of gas while driving through an intersection or being stranded on the side of the road with my children. I cannot afford to pay for someone to 'figure out' what the problem is. I feel GMC should figure it out and fix it. I know I am not the only person with this problem. I have done lots of research on the internet and I have talked to many other Envoy owners in my town with the same problem.

Fuel gauge problems....my fuel gauge has been floating from 1/2 a tank to empty for the past few weeks and now it the fuel light just stays on even when there is gas in the car. After running for a while the gauge will say there is gas and then it will go back down to empty.

Oct 152010

Envoy

  • 80,000 miles
The fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. The fuel level sending unit has a variable resistor attached to a float inside the fuel tank. As you use fuel, the float changes position (downwards) causing the variable resistor to change value. The change in resistance causes a change in the voltage sent to the fuel gage. My P0463 error is saying that the variable resistor is showing high input, instead of a typical small value. This means that the variable resistor or something else inside the sender unit is causing the ECM to "see" an invalid voltage on the fuel gage circuit. If the voltage is too high then the resistance is too high. Possibly a bad connection between the ECU and the sender or a grounding problem.

I own a 2005 GMC Envoy that is having a known problem with the gas gauge and the sender unit. The check engine light also comes on. Apparently numerous customers have been experiencing this same issue on their GM SUVS. There should be a recall to fix these known manufacturer faulty workmanship issues.
