The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while attempting to park the vehicle inside a parking lot, the contact attempted to shift to park(P); however, the shifter handle fractured, and the vehicle remained in drive(D). The contact restarted the vehicle and the message that the "Vehicle in Gear" message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was advised that the shifter cable had seized the transmission and the gear shifter handle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
