I know it was fixed through extended warranty.....after screaming, crying, threatening, etc.....it is a design flaw... The openings in the front of the car, beneath the license plate, allows road debris to damage the air conditioner. On-line some people even show how they build a screen to attach under the car....terrible. They said have your home owners insurance pay????

I spent sooooooo much time before I bought a car.. Had Volvos before. Then after 3 years of owning this Honda I came across a list that had my car as one of the worst. Generally, I'm happy with the car. It s a little tinny, but O was told that it helps with the gas mileage to keep the weight down..Still feels cheap.....

We bought a brand new 2007 Honda Accord, it was subsequently written off due to a bad rear end collision. We bought a brand new 2008 Honda Accord from same dealer. We took a trip to the west coast, had about 1300km's on it when we tried using A/C for the very FIRST time since buying the car. A/C was blowing warm. Took car to dealership and they told us it would cost $800 to repair it. I asked why warranty wasn't covering it and they explained a very small rock had punctured the condenser. I said are you f*cking kidding me?!! I told them I had a 2006 Ford F350 with 300,000 km's on it and the fins on the condenser are destroyed from debris and it still works just fine! They stood their ground and Honda would not cover it. I'm standing my ground and I will NEVER buy another Honda! We now drive a VW Passat and it's been an awesome car.

This condenser problem is a design flaw and Honda is doing nothing about it. I think it is time for a class action lawsuit just like what happened when the rear brakes were a design flaw with the 2008 Accord. It got my brakes fixed. Looks like Honda has set themselves up again. We just need to band together and file the lawsuit. I will not have another Honda. Love the car but hate the design flaws. 2 so far. Brakes and this condenser.

Like many people that buy a Honda, I was looking for a dependable, gas sipping, easy to maintain vehicle. I am so disappointed with this AC condenser problem and the obvious design flaw from Honda. I was absolutely "kicked in the gut" when the technician said the repair was in excess of $800. I too will be writing to Honda and the attorney general.

I purchased a Honda because I wanted a car that could handle high mileage/usage. I do alot of car travel for work. However, I am extremely disappointed with my Honda and would not recommend this car to anyone. I'm in the repair shop almost every two months and my latest problem is a small hole in my AC condensor. I was quoted $850 plus tax to get it fixed at my local Honda dealer in Nanuet NY. My extended warranty wont cover it eventhough Honda knows there is a problem with this. They are very friendly their but really expensive. I don't have the money to get this fixed, so I have been baking all summer long. Today I heard something else sqeaking under my car. It cant be the brake pads I just change those for the third time ($600 to change 4 pads). It's time to trade my Honda in for a toyota.

I spent 23 hours in my Accord with no air-conditioning on my way from Missouri to Michigan and back in 103 degree temps! I felt so faint from the heat that I had to pull off two times and kept thinking, "If I pass out and have an accident, I'm suing Honda!!"

I read the other complaints (because of my son) and took the advice of a couple of people: * I contacted the United States Attorney General (at AskDOJ@usdoj.gov) to explain the problems (yep, had to replace my brakes a long time ago!! and the condenser problem and said I would like to be part of any class action lawsuit against Honda. * I also WROTE a letter to the head of American Honda (and copied my local dealer)to express my displeasure that Honda has not provided an inexpensive fix for the condenser problem. Here is his name and address: Mr. Tetsuo Iwamura 1919 Torrance Blvd. Torrance, CA 90501

I am to pick up my car today ($800!!) and the problem with the condenser could happen again as I drive off the parking lot! I am so disgusted that I am considering trading the car in for a Maxima! I have bought a new Honda every five years beginning in 1993 and the first car is still going strong with 250,000 miles and has a great air conditioner. This was obviously a design flaw that Honda should have taken care of.

PLEASE CONTACT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE AND WRITE A LETTER - REMEMBER - THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE OIL!! Thanks.

Same problem--warm a/c but could tell condenser was running. Paid dealer $160 for diagnostic (they checked the temperature, which was not cold enough, did an inspection of the a/c, which showed nothing obvious, then added refrigerant and a dye. They said I'd eventually be back, once the refrigerant leaked out. Then the dye would reveal the leak. Six weeks later they send the bottom end of the condenser had dye all over it and there was a spot on an 'end tray' at near one of the lines. Said it needed a condenser--$600. I told him about these complaints and he said he'd seen it in Odysseys but not Accords. This just STINKS! And because it's not a safety issue, they'll never recall and give us our money back!!!

AC isn't working instead hot air was coming out of my vents after I bought. So I brought my car to the dealer and was told that I had a leak in a hose, which they fixed under my warranty. I picked my car up and the AC worked. Next summer I used my AC nothing but a warm air was coming from the vents again. Now I have no warranty because it's 3 years 2 months. Even I know cause of it I have to pay for estimate and repair to get it fixed.

According to what I have read, this repair is fairly common as it is a design flaw. There is a large air dam opening in the bumper without a protection grill for the condenser. As such this design flaw leaves a portion of the condenser exposed and prone to damage from road debris. Dublin Honda is replacing the part but it is not covered under any warranty nor is the design flaw remedied - thus, everytime the car is driven you risk damaging your air conditioning condenser. Please file a complaint with Honda and the Attorney General.

Normally I have very short drive to work less than 1 mile, so I normally don't turn on my AC. On my trip to LA from northern California, it was over 100 degrees out side and my AC is not working. I took it to Dublin Honda and they are telling me that it will cost me $856.18 to fix it because there is a hole in the AC condenser. There is a design problem here.

What is that you all fellow Honda owner doing? If I get this fixed it can happen again anytime

The A/C died suddenly without any warning. When I called for an appointment the lady right away said it is due to a rock hitting the condenser even before she asked me how it happened or seen the car. So it looks like they have a ready made answer to make money out of you by not allowing the warranty to take care of it.They quoted a price of $900 including a diagnostic fee of $ 66 to fix the problem. There is a large air dam opening in the bumper without a protection grill for the condenser and I think this is a design fault.Even though there are numerous complaints about this Honda has not cared to find a solution for this problem. I also think that the condenser is made of an inferior quality material since other automobiles don't have this number of complaints as the Accord.Even though there are numerous complaints for more than 2.5 years Honda has not cared to find a solution as simple as fixing a protective grill for this expensive part. When I talked to the lady about this at a later date she said I have to buy the grill from them and they will fix it for a fee. When I asked her whether the new condenser has a warranty she said I will have to pay if the same thing happens again which I think will be their standard response for this complaint. So the dealers see this as a money making opportunity. This shows that Honda don't care or value their customers. They have a "take it if you want" attitude. If I had known about this problem in advance I would have definitely fixed a grill or would not have bought the car itself in the first place when there are so many other reliable cars available.. Who wants to pay for the blunder of a "so called reputed company" like Honda.. I searched You tube and there is a video about making an inexpensive grill with the "Gutter Guard" which you can buy in Canadian Tire or any other hardware store.

Sorry to say, I had the exact same problem as others have reported. A rock the size of quarter bounced up and cost me over $600 to repair. The Honda Service people had no sympathy and only offered to rip me off with an $800 dollar repair! Note to Honda: A large open gap at the front of the car is really a stupid idea. Especially if you stick a flimsy A/C condenser right behind it.

I hope this glaring design flaw ends up costing Honda a lot of money to defend in a lawsuit somewhere along the line. My Honda experience is over as I'll go back to buying Toyota and Mazda.

I'm just disgusted with Honda right now! I've been a life long owner, as is my entire famly, of Hondas, and the problems with this car just don't stop! When I realized my AC wasn't working, I immediately checked online for problems, and read all about the condenser getting damaged from road debris due to it being openly exposed to be easily damaged. Of course I was ready to argue about paying for something that is so obviously a design flaw in this car, and I did. It didn't help when it came time to pay, the dealer mechanic said it's not a manufacturer's defect, so it's not covered under warranty. Outrageous! Who's to say that the same thing won't happen again in even just a few weeks?

I'm writing a letter to Honda. To all of you out there who've had the same problem, you need to write letters too! A class action law suit is inevitable in this situation. Honda must pay! We're already apart of a class action law suit against Honda because they changed their rear brakes to be thinner, which then means they need to be replaced more often. In a car that's less than two years old, with less than 20K miles on it, I've already had to have the rear brakes changed out! This is enough!

Help! I can't believe my car is still under warranty and this happened...and I even purchased that extended FULL coverage, everything inclusive warranty...any and every warranty they offered..I bought it so that I would NOT have to deal with these kind of issues, or so Honda told me would cover. Now I find out I'm to make a claim on insurance??

My question also is, if I purchase the part and just have it installed by another car repair shop...is that going to void any other warranties I have or 'think' I have with Honda? If it does, it seems like they have you backed into a corner.

This obvious sounds like a design issue from Honda. What can be done? It's just so odd, the words used in these complaints about this issue is almost verbatim what they told me...it's like 'standard' language they are told to say when this happens.

I would really appreciate any suggestions...

I am in Louisiana and the weather is getting HOT!!

thanks

Honda obviously has a major design flaw with the location/construction of the air condenser in the 2008 Accord. I've owned the car for less than 2 years and have just had my second air condenser punctured. Honda replaced the first one (which broke after less than 10K miles) for free, but now wants $800 dollars to replace it. I'm furious they wont acknowledge this as a design flaw!

Got in the car last weekend only to find that my AC was blowing hot. When I took it to the dealership they told me it was a problem with the condenser, specifically that a stone had somehow been flown up from the road and damaged it. To add insult to injury, Honda won't allow this claim to be covered under warranty despite it sounding like an issue that stems from a design flaw. I'm greatly disappointed and am seriously considering never purchasing a Honda again.
